  1. As sbv3000 said port 6690 needs to be open for cloud station to work, below is a list of the ports used by the various Synology applications: https://www.synology.com/en-uk/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/What_network_ports_are_used_by_Synology_services
  2. Hello & welcome to the forum. It's always helpful to say what hardware you're using when asking for help. 1. The network resource meter should work correctly, do you have more than 1 lan port? 2. I assume from what you've said that you're trying to setup your router through control panel or Ez-Internet, personally I've setup all of my port forwarding directly on my Asus router, a list of the ports used by the various applications can be found here: https://www.synology.com/en-uk/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/What_network_ports_are_used_by_Synology_services 3. Not used Mumble so can't help I'm afraid.
  3. I'd also recommend keeping the 413 as a backup server, you already have it so why not make best use of it.
  4. As you didn't specify what hardware you're using it's hard to say but you should be able to upgrade to 6.0.2 or possibly 6.1.4
  5. Don't worry it won't affect the volumes if they do appear in different slots after a reboot.
  6. Hi & welcome to the forums, the N54L will happily the latest version 6.1.4 You'll need jun's 1.02b loader, make sure you set the correct vid & pid of the USB you're using & disable C1E support in the bios. If you need any assistance there are some guides on the forum.
  7. It should as long as you boot into the Ubunto USB before rebooting DSM after the upgrade & make the necessary changes.
  8. You can get access the the system partitions via a Ubunto live USB then following this guide.
  9. Have you tried rebooting? Is the index service running, also have a look at what else is running i.e. are there any file transfers, backup jobs etc running, how many users are connected.
  10. Boot from a live Linux USB & type "ifconfig -a", look for eth0 & eth1, the number next to hwaddr will be the MAC address. As you already know the MAC for the intel card you should be able to tell which one is which.
  11. If you want to setup DDNS within Synology NO-IP works very well & is easy to setup, it's what I use.
  12. ok, for plex then yes a quad core cpu would make a difference. As for the boot loader it doesn't emulate a cpu, rather it facilitates the loading of the DSM OS.
  13. That really depends on what you're planning to use it for, I.e. Plex transcoding, virtualisation etc.
  14. Yes you should be able to move the disks from your old unit to the gen8, however you might want to have a look at this first: https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/How_to_migrate_between_Synology_NAS_DSM_5_0_and_later Also you say that that you've setup the gen8 already, it might be better to set it up from scratch with the disks from the ds212. Lastly do you have a backup just in case things go wrong?

  16. You could always use the existing machine to try things out & then buy a better cpu if you feel you need it. There are lots of things you can use DSM for besides storage.
  17. In essence no, if all you're going to use it for is storage, then a dual core cpu will be fine. Having said that, if you're going to be purchasing something rather than making use of existing hardware it might be worth considering whether you will need more horsepower in the future.
  18. If you're thinking about going virtual I'd try ESXi rather than Win7 & VM Player, plenty of people use it very successfully with DSM.
  19. 1) No, the changes will need to be made after every new update if you want to ability to create new SHR arrays, if not don't worry about it. 2) An existing SHR will be fine after an upgrade as the changes only allow the creation of new SHR arrays & don't affect existing ones.
  20. What hardware are you using? It's very hard for anyone to help you unless you provide adequate information..
