  1. Not as long as you follow the correct procedure i.e. use jun's 1.02b loader, set vid, pid & disable C1E support in the bios. I'd also advise having a backup.
  2. Synology have removed SHR support from their high end units i.e. the DS3615xs. It can however be enabled if you want to use it by editing synoinfo.conf which is located in /etc.defaults/synoinfo. conf comment out / delete supportraidgroup="yes" then add support_syno_hybrid_raid ="yes"
  3. From a quick google search it looks like you can't boot the Mac Pro from a USB unless it's OSX.
  4. @Hostilian What version of DSM are you running?
  5. HP N54L & HP N40L both baremetal updated ok from update 5 to 8.
  6. You might want to have a look here https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?t=57901 Alternatively you could try installing it via docker.
  7. What version of DSM are you running, also what version of download station is it?
  8. I don't have a UPS so someone else will have to answer that I'm afraid.
  9. You can go directly to update 6 as they're cumulative.
  10. A little searching might give you the answer you're looking for:
  11. Unless you want to try ESXi or have a need to run other virtual machines I'd stay baremetal with jun's 1.02b loader & upgrade to 6.1.3, just make sure you disable C1E in the bios. I'd suggest having a read through this thread before upgrading.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

If you're using DS3615xs then Update 5 seems to be ok so far yes. However several people have reported issues with DS3617xs & Update 4/5.
  13. Which bootloader are you using? jun's 1.02b works with the N54L. Have you disabled C1E in the bios, the N54L won't boot if you haven't done this. Also have you set the correct vid/pid of the USB stick?
  14. @AndreyTichvin I'd suggest using the DS3615xs image rather than the DS3617xs one if you want to go to update 5.
  15. @HarryTse Try adding disable_mtrr_trim to the set common_args_3615 line in grub.cfg. That should give you the full 8GB See post 249 in this thread:
  16. Just use jun's 1.02b loader, that works for the N54L & 6.1.3 Update 5
  17. Not true, both of my servers have the old style serial numbers & boot ok.
  18. Never mind, found it in another post.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

@LittleScratch DSM will use all physical cores in your system, not sure about hyperthreads though. Run cat /proc/cpuinfo from a terminal window to check.
  20. @casca Just out of interest what model readynas was it?
  21. @Vish, @Josh There is not need to boot with the reinstall option first, the N54L is perfectly happy booting with the Baremetal option, see post 284. I have a N40L & a N54L both upgraded from 6.0.2 & booting happily with that option.
