  1. A single volume is probably better for you as you can do what you want by creating different folders with different permissions for each.
  2. That's not how migration works, effectively you've removed the HDD's DSM knows about & installed new ones, which is why you're being prompted to redo the setup.
  3. In answer to your question, yes you can happily stay on 6.0.2 if it's working for you & you don't need any of the features in 6.1. I have 2 HPN54L (AMD) servers both of which were running 5.2 very happily until recently when I upgraded them both to 6.1.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

    Glad you got it sorted.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

You could try flashing the bios again, this appears to be a newer version: http://www.nathanielperez.us/blog/hp-proliant-n40l-bios-modification-guide or getting a 2 port pcie sata card

TheBay bios & just the ahci change. Not really sure what else to suggest.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Ok, that is slightly weird. Do you have another disk you could try just to rule that out.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Not really sure what more there is to explain, the setting I was referring to is this line in grub.cfg. set sata_args='sata_uid=1 sata_pcislot=5 synoboot_satadom=1 DiskIdxMap=0C SataPortMap=1 SasIdxMap=0'

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

    Yes I have a N40L & a N54L, both running DSM 6.0.2-8451

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Ok, I've just checked my settings & SataPortMap=1 & my 5 WD Black disks are seen by DSM Ok, so maybe try that.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Can you see the 5th disk in the bios when set to ahci mode?, maybe try a different sata cable

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

You need to change it to AHCI mode.
  13. If you're running DSM under ESXI on a AMD cpu you'll be fine, just make sure you have appropriate backups before you upgrade. As for the cpu shown in control panel, that's what is used in a real DS3615xs.
  14. Or you could access the data on those disks via a Linux Live CD, see this post:
  15. Quickconnect will NOT work & is an abuse of Synology's services, if you need external access use something like NO-IP
  16. That mac address doesn't look right, should be something like 0011322CA785. Did you follow these instructions: When I upgraded my N54L's the only things I changed were the vid, pid & mac addresses & DSM 6.0.2 installed without issue.

    Update Xpenology

You might want to do some reading first, however as a starting point have a look here:
  18. You cannot do what you are asking, DSM is installed on ALL installed HDD's, this is not optional it's how DSM is designed to work.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

I just edited the grub.cfg file & removed all the boot entries except for the AMD one, so the last entry after function loadlinux { .. .. } Looks like this: menuentry "DS3615xs 6.02 Baremetal AMD $VERSION" --class os { set img=/image/DS3615xs set zImage=bzImage savedefault loadlinux 3615 usb loadinitrd showtips } AMD is now the default boot option as it is the only one, therefore no interaction required.
  20. I believe Synology have released a patch for DSM 6.0.3-8754-1 which resolves the issue, however as a workaround you can add the following line to your Samba configuration file smb.conf: nt pipe support = no see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33179 for original thread.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Have you set the vid & pid? if yes have you tried another usb stick. When I upgraded my N54L I removed all the boot entries except for the baremetal AMD option & everything worked ok.
  22. DSM is installed on all HDD's, it isn't possible to install to a dedicated drive. A 1GB stick will be fine.
  23. Don't think it's possible on the N54L at present.
  24. An explanation can be found here: https://www.samba.org/samba/security/CVE-2017-7494.ht
