  1. What NIC have you been trying on 6.2.x? https://xpenology.com/forum/announcement/17-dsm-621-23824-warning/
  2. Same "testrig" as above, HP Proliant ML110 G5, "out of the box", using Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs, DSM 6.1.7-15284 Update 2 admin@ML110:~$ grep MHz /proc/cpuinfo cpu MHz : 2333.000 cpu MHz : 2333.000 admin@ML110:~$ dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=1024 | md5sum 1024+0 records in 1024+0 records out 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 2.71034 s, 396 MB/s Volume1=2*250GB Raid 0, btrfs admin@ML110:~$ sudo dd bs=1M count=256 if=/dev/zero of=/volume1/test conv=fdatasync 256+0 records in 256+0 records out 268435456 bytes (268 MB) copied, 2.19464 s, 122 MB/s Volume2=2*250GB Raid 0, ext4 admin@ML110:~$ sudo dd bs=1M count=256 if=/dev/zero of=/volume2/test conv=fdatasync 256+0 records in 256+0 records out 268435456 bytes (268 MB) copied, 2.77279 s, 96.8 MB/s As can be seen, volume2 seems to be generally slower than volume1, the difference is the filesystem used. Can anyone confirm this ?
  3. Using the same test as cdrvbfhq: HP Proliant ML110 G5 - Xeon 3065 - 8GB ECC with DSM 6.1.7-15284 Update 2 real 1m5.064s user 1m4.322s sys 0m0.379s @haldi What are you using to generate that picture showing "System Overwiev" ?
  4. @SHINZONITO You might try to install the PowerButton package, and see if it helps making a gracefull shutdown with the button.
  5. 1 - OK, but what is the name of the file you downloaded, and did you use a link from this forum? (1.0 2 - No, you HAVE to edit, even for fresh/clean install. 3 - The M8i should be ok, but AMD support is limited so your Athlon might be less "lucky", what is the mainboard used for it ? 4 - NIC = Network Interface Card, you find it just where your network cable connects 5 - Ok, as you have to find the computer before installing. 6 - Ok, as above. 7 - Have your tried searching this forum, or Google, if your hardware actually is compatible? Try the following: A - Download the "toolbox". B - Download Jun's loader v1.02b DS3615xs C - Download DSM 6.1.7 15284 (Chose .pat file for DS3615xs) D - Find MAC adress of your NIC, write it down. E - Using the "toolbox", find the vid/pid of your USB drive. F - Using the "toolbox", generate a serialnumber. G - Using the "toolbox", edit your grub.cfg with the above data: MAC, vid, pid, and Sn. before saving the changes to you bootimage. H - Using the "toolbox", write the edited file to your USB drive. I - Reboot your "NAS" from your freshly made USB bootdrive. J - Check your routers DHCP server if your "NAS" is getting an IP adress. K - Using the "toolbox", locate yoru "NAS" with Synology Assistant. L - Using the Synology Assistant, connect to your "NAS", then manually install the DSM_DS3615xs_15284.pat downloaded earlier. M - Reboot and enjoy ?
  6. The "updated tutorial" is the one I was linking to, and it explains, step by. step, how to install. Since you are not updating anything, but doing a fresh clean install, your "work" starts at step 3 But DO read the complete thing, to get to know the basics "behind the screen". And pay closely attention to Note 1. Some questions to you: 1 - What bootimage did you download, and was it for 3615/3617/918/xxx? 2 - Did you edit the vid/pid/sn/mac before you wrote it to your usb drive? 3 - On what hardware are you trying to install it? 4 - What make/model is the NIC you are using? 5 - Why did you replace the extra ramdisk, and what file did you replace it with? 6 - What .PAT file did you install ? 7 - Did you install the .PAT automaticly or manual?
  7. @MCFLY78 Did you read the tutorial, twice, already? Then you might just boot from you bootable USB I guess?
  8. Start by reading the tutorial here and when your done and if you still have any questions, repeat once more Then let us know if you need some guidance to follow the steps outlined in the tutorial. can be read as 6.x
  9. 1 - What is your HW and DSM version? 2 - What is the name of the file you downloaded ? 3 - Do you have a Plex Pass?
  10. 1 - Should be fine, but you don't have to disable it, if I remember correct it will be "moved" to Eth2. (and if you update DSM it will be "lost" anyways ) 2 - The dual port will become Eth0 and Eth1, and if you disabled the original Eth0, the new will "inherit" the MAC adress in grub.cfg. (to make it "look better", you should edit the grub.cfg, adding all the MAC adresses you will be using.
  11. 1 - Tell us what your "empty box" is (what hardware etc.) 2 - Where did your "older drive" come from, and what version of DSM did it have? 3 - Where did your "synoboot.img" come from, and what version was it? 4 - What version of DSM did you try to install manually?
  12. Since there is a big userbase with HP Microserver G7, it would be nice to have support for the builtin NIC, HP NC107i based on BCM5723. It has been supported up until now, when 6.2.1 broke it.
  13. @ACiDxCHRiST : good for you, but that is not an HP N54L as the OP, manples, are using...
  14. @giftmusic It seems like only DS918+ supports NVME You may do some reading here and search the forum, as many have been trying to get it to work.
  15. @giftmusic I'm referring to the screendump you posted above, that shows many USB devices connected to the computer beeing used to edit the grub.cfg
  16. @giftmusic : it seems like you have many USB devices connected, make sure you read the vid/pid from the correct device. If you have downloaded the Xpenology_Tool_V134.exe found here in the forum, you will have what's needed, else you may download the just the needed tool from: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
  17. @mysy the 3. option is only used if you are running a VirtualMachine hosted on VMWare / ESXi. If you are running "baremetal", use opt.1

    DSM 6.2 Loader

1 - Disable C1 in BIOS 2 - Use Jun's Loader v1.03b DS3615xs, edit vid/pid/sn/mac, write to USB 3 - Download DSM_DS3615xs_15284.pat (DSM 6.1.7 to be safe) or DSM_DS3615xs_23739.pat (DSM 6.2 if you really want it) 4 - Boot from you USB and install the preferred .pat file manually. 5 - Make sure you disable auto updates, and ONLY check for important and security updates 6 - If you go for 6.2, do NOT update any higher than update 2.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Ahh, OK. I just realised that your using DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2, somehow I read it as you where using 6.2.1-xxx, 😏 then it makes perfectly sense, as I'm using the same loader and DSM version, with internal nic and a HP NC360T (intel based) on one of my N54Ls. The dual-port NC360 is working with 6.2.1, but the internal is not.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Are you using the builtin NIC, or have you added a Intel card?
  21. @davrichard when you installed the 6.1, did you manually install the .PAT file, or did you let DSM automagicly download and install? The auto might have installed the "Latest and Greatest" 6.2.x that might not support your NIC (AR8171).
  22. @Vectorr66: what bootimage have you put on your new USB stick? What version are you trying to update to? Do you have a NIC supported by that version? In regards of "what to see" : "screen will stop updating shortly"...
  23. @stefauresi where did you fin the 1.04b loader?
  24. @melliemvdg: you should have read the posted Warning! and thread to save yourself some problems. I'm assuming you downloaded and installed (from Synology) the "Latest & Greatest" DSM 6.2.1.xx, that most likely do NOT support your NIC. You should either install from a local copy, (.PAT file) the DSM 6.2-23739, and stop updating after Upd.2 or you can play it "safe" and install DSM 6.1.x from a local copy (.PAT file), using Juns 1.02b loader. Re: "Error 13": 1 Did you modify your grub.cfg with the corect vid/pid etc? 2 Was your harddrives empty and cleaned for any filesystems?
