  1. There you might have your problem, do NOT use "Public".
  2. @Water is your network configured as "Privat", "Work" or "Public" ? And is your "Network discovery" enabled on your computer ?
  3. @MajorGrunt that's strange... I'm not currently using VideoStation, but I'm using both Plexserver and Logitech MediaServer on my "MediaBox", pointing to remote shares on 2 different "NAS-only" boxes. All of them running 5.2. The MediaBox is running as a VM on a G8, and the NAS boxes are N54L, running bare-metal. All of my mediaplayers, Plex/Kodi/SqueezeBox etc. is having no problem accessing the "remote" mediafiles. Do you have a setting in Video Station where you define the mounted folders, and have you given VideoStation permission to those? Something like this. You may need to add the mounted folders to the indexed folders. Edit: Seems like other people have been "fighting" with VideoStation and this problem. https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=222&t=100126 look at the reply from Syno in the last post...
  4. Yes, if you mount the remote shares into a local shared folder. Let's say I make a local "Media" folder, and share it with the intended users, with any restrictions I want, and then inside that folder I map remote shares, like "Photo", "Music", "Movies" etc. (im 6.x you can easily map NFS shares as well as CIFS/SMB) Just make sure you set the file/folder permissions correct, and this wont be a problem.

    DLNA problem

    CIFS or NFS shares ?
  6. That sounds like a way different use than as a NAS, as XPEnology is supposed to be. There might be some Syno packages that could be used, but if this will be the "only" thing your server will be used for, maybe IPFire would be what you are looking for?
  7. It should show up even if it was wrong? But try the new and updated generator.
  8. @JohnnyR have your drives been used to something else before you tried to install DSM? If so, you might want to delete the existing partition info on them before trying once more.
  9. Hi, I'm assuming this is the continuance of your topic here: I have some questions: 1 - What hardware is this running on? 2 - Exactely which version of bootloader/DSM was installed when the problems started? 3 - What filesystem was in use? 4 - With the bootloader you tried, (XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5967.1.img) did you use this "DSM_DS3615xs_5967.pat" as the installation file? 5 - Where you presented with the option to "Migrate"? As mention by Polanskiman, the 15152 indicates that the system is/was running DSM 6.1.3, so you might need to find another bootloader, and find the matching .pat file here https://usdl.synology.com/download/DSM/release/6.1.3/15152/ Another option, might be to use Gparted to delete the DSM system partitons on all the HDD's, then do a fresh install using the bootloader/DSM version of your choice.
  10. You may add your SSD as a single disk, and make it your Volume2. Then use it for the things you want. (BUT: as mentioned, it will have a Synology/DSM partition, just like every other disk in the system) Would that work for you? Or if you need it to be vol1, first do a clean install on the SSD, then "import" the rest of your drives as vol2. Are those drives configured as a Raid group, with a single volume?
  11. If you "only" want to run it as a VM in ESXi, have a look at this topic, it's easy and working great.

    No boot drives!

You may have to manually tell the BIOS to treat your USB stick as an USB-HDD. That happened to me on one mainboard where I was testing XPE-compatibility (DFI LanParty P45-T3RSB).
  13. I was "presented" a problem like yours, that I solved, you might read and see if it can help you.
  14. Tested on one of my VM's right now, looking fine
  15. Do you see the disk in your BIOS?
  16. @maxime: in case you still wonder.. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33260
  17. Agree with the "last speaker", a NAS is first and most a ways to secure your files, if that fails, then the complete chain fails... In regards to Docker, have they solved all the security issues yet?
  18. Updated 1 bare-metal (N54L) and 1 VM from update 2 to update 3 using the control panel, so far so good. (XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5967.1 as "base" on both of them)
  19. Thanks, worked like a charm on my N54L running DSM 5.2-5967 Update 2.
  20. OK, here come the solution that I chose: I made a new USB stick, with XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5967.1.img that I replaced the old one with. Then I booted, and chose the third boot option, (Update/Upgrade?). I let it start up, then used the Synology Assistant to find it, and it was showing up at "Migratable" (something in that direction...) I then opened the web interface, and was given the options to migrate, with or without keeping some of the settings/apps. I chose to keep only the files, and to reset all settings and apps (witch was OK with me), and that gave me a new "admin" account, where I was asked to choose a new "strong" password. After doing a few reboots, to make sure things was OK, I manually updated with Update 2 https://usdl.synology.com/download/DSM/ ... 3615xs.pat Now it is running all OK, with all the files intact. The owner will now have to sort out all the user accounts, other settings and apps, before setting his personal admin password, and write it down! Hope this might come in handy for others as well, but I really hope you don't need to do it, as it's better to keep the passwords around
  21. Thanks, 1 - I already checked the BIOS, and the time and date was set to current date, Zulu time. 2 - None of the other accounts seems to have admin rights Could a software upgrade or downgrade help in this situation, will I be asked for a new, or the current password? Anyone with experience here ?
  22. Hi, after spending some time searching here and google'ing, I found it better to ask a question here. A friend of mine, who I helped some years ago to "build" a NAS, is in trouble.... He has been using "regular" user accounts, and has totaly lost his admin password. When trying to connect by the DSM webinterface, and using the "Forgotten password" function, any username I try, give the reply: Your are forbidden!! The NAS is a HP N54L, running DSM 4.3-3827 Update 8. Could someone point me in the right direction on how to reset/recover the admin password? btw: I tried following the "https://repl.it/H7Mh" trick, trying to login as root / 505-1301 (todays, May 19, password?) from the "local terminal" (local keyboard/monitor), but with no luck.
