    DSM 6.2 Loader

@ilteris : did you install the .pat file automaticly, then it might have installed DSM 6.2.1, that might not be compatible with the RTL8110SC nic on your mainboard. Try to manually download and install either the 6.2 or 6.1.7 .pat file.
  2. @ilteris Still no mention of what your hw platform is, and what file you tried to download/install.... 🙄 But nevermind.... as you are running DSM 5.2, Cloud Station Server will not be available to you anyway 😏 So, unless you update your DSM, you can search for Cloud Station in your Package Center.

    NOOB

Hello John, and welcome to the "family" Just 1 quick tip: Forget about Quick Connect. and use a dDNS solution if you want/need external access to your NAS For the first, you will need a valid serial/mac combo to add your NAS to a Syno account for QC to work, secondly, "we" don't want to "abuse/misuse" any of Synology's services, even less when there are alternative ways to reach our goals
  4. Ok, lets just google it and see what comes up Basicly, it is converting a mediastream ( ie. a video) from one format to another. If your have a videofile with a 4k resolution and Atmos sound, and want to see it on your iPhone, both the video and audio must be proscessed = transcoded to be of any use on your iPhone, it must first be "unpacked" on you Plexserver, then converted, and finally "packed" before your iPhone can present your video with working sound. How fast this can be done, with 1 or more concurrent streams, will depend on the CPU and any hw support. What case did you end up with?
  5. @ilteris you know, it would be "helpful" if you told us what platform you are using .... and what file did you try to install... ?
  6. @Konfl1kt If you are steaming directly, using a 4k compatible client, with NO transcoding needed, I guess you can use "any" CPU. as then you are only using your NAS as a fileshare, with Plex as a frontend (User Interface) for you client, and as long as your network is fast enough to feed the data, your client will play it all ok. If you use ie. a nVidia Shield TV as a client (as I am doing) you will have a 4k HDR compatible client that will play almost anything, BUT, I'm using Kodi as a client most of the time, so I'm no expert on the Plex/XPE part, as I can use my Shield as Plex server, with hw transcoding. Now, if you on the other hand wants/need to do transcoding in Plex due to ie. mobile clients, there is other things to think of. If I remember correct, to use the HW transcoding on Plex, you might need a PlexPass. If you search this forum, you will notice that for hw transcoding, you might need to use the DS918+, and its not easy to get it working.
  7. @ilteris 1 : http://bfy.tw/LFj5 2 : That is a different webpage than this, ask them how to get an illegal license if you need more than 2.
  8. @Konfl1kt If you look at the bottom of this FAQ page, you might get an idea.
  9. 1 - Will you be streaming directly over the network to a 4k client , or will you be using ie. Plex to transcode? 2 - Any size of the mb is OK, from mITX to E-ATX, it all come downs to what cabinet why would one be better than the other? The chipset / integrated nic and storage controllers are the things thst matter. 3 - Yes, depending on what services you are going to use on you NAS, for plain file-storage, it will be "overkill". 4 - Yes, it supports as many independent / different RAIDs as you want and have disk's for. 5 - Any .PAT supports more than 4 HDD's, the 918+ supports 16, and might be what you should aim for when looking for a compatible mainboard, as this has the most up-to-date support, running DSM 6.2.1 upd. 2
  10. Yes, this community is very helpful, but some users don't know how to read.
  11. Your nic might not be compatible with DSM 6.2.x using that bootloader. Install using Jun's 1.04b / DS918+ and you will have a working DMS 6.2.1 update xy with your mainboard.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Well, as you may know, Realtek makes more than 1 model of nic's, and without knowing exactly what your model is, I can only "read the tarot-cards" or guess. In one of my test-setups, using Asrock Q1900-ITX, the nic is a RTL8111GR, this works both with : bootloader 1.03 DS3617, DSM up to, and including 6.2 update2, but not 6.2.1 bootloader 1.04 918+, DSM 6.2.1-23824 - Update 1 with no problem. If you try to make a new fresh install, based on 1.03 3615/3617, make sure to download the 6.2 pat file and install it manually and do not update to 6.2.1 then maybe it will work for you.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

@roadx : as you have found out, your Realtek nic is not compatible with DSM 6.2.1, and bl 1.03. Some Realtek nic's will work with bl 1.04 if the rest of the hw is compatible with the DS918+ With your current hw, and bl 1.03, the newest DSM you can run, (as DS3615/3617), would be 6.2 update2, but it will fail if you update higher (6.2.1). btw: you should really read the warnings and some of the "horror-stories" posted, before doing ANY update.
  14. It might be because of a change in the kernel config that breaks all non official PCIe devices drivers.
  15. By using the DS918+ version, your Terramaster seems to be compatible with the "latest and greatest" DSM 6.2.1. Since you tried the automatic install of the .pat, I'm guessing it downloaded this, and the drivers for your nic is not supported under DS3617, causing your failed install. If you keep the DS3617, make sure you don't update to DSM 6.2.1, unless other users confirms it to work.
  16. @standerby Ahh, I just realized your using the WMware Workstation, I was thinking ESXi, where there are more types of vnic's.
  17. Asrock Q1900-ITX: confirmed installation of Jun's loader 1.04b DS918+ with DSM 6.2.1-23824 - Update 1, clean install, automatic download of .pat All is working well so far, added POWERBUTTON_6.1-0004.SPK for gracefull shutdown using the powerbutton.
  18. @ixlkicker OK, what bootloader and DSM version did you try to install? Accoring to this Jun v1.04b - DS918+ is supported.
  19. Can you post pictures of your Overview, Volume, Storage Pool ? And some info, what bootloader, DSM version?
  20. I did a "rebuild" of the above mentioned Asrock Q1900-ITX DS918+ Jun's Mod V1.04b, DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 1 2*1TB, raid0, ext4. dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M count=1024 | md5sum 073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 3.27853 s, 328 MB/s admin@ITX:/$ sudo dd bs=1M count=256 if=/dev/zero of=/volume1/test conv=fdatasyn 268435456 bytes (268 MB) copied, 2.01971 s, 133 MB/s 4395630592 bytes (4.4 GB) copied, 25.7595 s, 171 MB/s I assume the improved disk speed is related to the raid0, but there is a minor decrease in CPU speed that I assume is related to the switch to DS918+.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

@xp_1409 You may use the serial provided, or you can just alter it a bit, both things will work (as long as you have only 1 NAS in you LAN using*that* serial).
  22. If your HW is 6.2.1 compatible, you may be so lucky as doing an online update from the control panel. Since I'm not sure what HW and bootloader you are currently using, it's hard to tell....
  23. Oh yes, thats true, it's best (or close to mandatory) to start out with no partitions. I usually place the drives in a USB dock, and use diskpart / clean from a Windows computer when I test out some different setups. So, now you are running baremetal DS918+ with DSM 6.2.1-23824 - Update 1 and no problems, using the internal NIC on the J1900 mainboard? I'm asking, as I'm about to rebuild the above mentioned Asrock Q1900-ITX one of these coming days
  24. For the DS918+ image, your CPU must be Haswell or better, from the looks of it, your CPU is a Bay Trail-D. FYI: The DS3617xs, with DSM 6.1.x works very well on Asrock Q1900-ITX
  25. It works. A friend of mine is using it, with no problems in regards to Synology's servers. By the looks of it, it is a "local app" running on you box, that keeps in sync with Google Authenificator, running on your mobile device. The local app generates a "secret key", during setup, that you add to your mobile device, this is the encryption key. Then, based on the date and time, and the common key, both ends update the valid token, that you get on your screen and input to your DSM as login.
