About Me

  1. I've got an old server laying around that seems perfect for an xpenology build. I was using it with FreeNAS, but I want the flexibility of Synology SHR. It's got 48GB of RAM, so if I can also play around with VM's on it, that would be a plus. What would be the recommended boot loader and model to use for this server: Supermicro 2U Server X8DTN+ MB, 2x Xeon L5630 2.13ghz CPU, 48Gb Ram and M1015 Raid controller It's got 12 Bays, and I'm thinking I want to use it as an off-site backup for a few Synology Servers that I have out in the world. Is there an argument to be made to go to ESXi and then Xpenology instead of bare metal?
  2. Hello @Peter Suh Hope you will have a look at this , thank you in advance. I'm really stuck without understanding what's going wrong Previous 6.2 JUN'S setup was running fine with same materials, same cpu, ram and disks. 1151 Supermicro XSCH with 8 onboard sata i3-8300 16Go ECC I started again from scratch. used TCRP 0.9 from https://github.com/pocopico/tinycore-redpill update fullupgrade identifyusb serialgen DS918+ satamap edit user_config.json change generated SN with my SN change generated MAC1 with my MAC add line MAC2=001132xxxxxx (*) build ds918p-7.1.1-42962 => I can see that the Aquantia driver is found and add to the build ==> After reboot, menu appears. I choose first choice (USB VERBOSE) . Then the system boot but no way to find DSM. DSFinder does not find anything. I can see that a DHCP IP adress is suddenly seen by the router but disappears after 3 seconds after the kernel is up and running. DSM does not load neither (no flashing lights on hard drive after loading kernel) (*) If I DO NOT add MAC2, systems boot up and DSM 7.1 run fine with MAC1 attribute to ASUS10gb additionnal NIC, onboard MAC card is REAL, I can use both. But I loose MY genuine Synology MAC on onboard NIC. As my 918+ SN works fine now, my goal is to find a way to give my 2 Synology MAC to both onboard and additionnal NIC. Hope I'm clear enough, sorry for my english. Any help would be really awesome, as i've red all the threads related to MAC but didn't find anything looking same as my problem.
  4. First, thank you for your help. Well, i've edited the grub.cfg but no way to find any ip adress whatever the NIC I used. I can ''feel'' that DSM is booting (fans are getting quiet once the system is up and HD light are on then off, just like normal) Then I started from scratched. I rebuild the kernel with previously editing the user_config and change SYNO MAC and SN with my MAC and SN. I add the mac2=...... line also => no way to boot Then I made a complete rebuild starting again from scratch with default TCRP settings => Boot. DSM didn't even ask for update or install or anything. System was (and is still) perfectly running like a normal reboot. Supermicro onboard NIC 1 : Supermicro MAC Supermicro onboard NIC 2 : no show on DSM system, no show in TCRP ASUS G100C 10gb : SYNO MAC (set with ./rploader.sh serialgen) There is something i'm doing wrong but I don't know what. I'm sure the ASUS NIC (loading drivers from github when the build is launched) is the key but I'm not pro enough to change this behaviour. If you have any idea.... Thank you for reading
  5. Hi and thank you for your help Board : SuperMicro X11SCH-F CPU : i3-8400 It's not really a problem as I will not use the second 1gb NIC. The real problem is that I would like to use my own SN and MAC from my dead 918+ without installing the system again... Don't know possible or not... TY Mate EDIT : I red a couple of threads but not really matching my problem
  6. Hi Everyone! I'm sorry for creating this thread but after reading some topics I've found that somebody has any troubles with installing XPenology on Proxmox. This also concerns me - I have a trouble with 6.2 on my Microserver Gen 8 with Proxmox on it - no network devices. So, after some attempts I have a success with 6.2 DSM with 3615xs and 3617xs only with 6.2_23739 with manual Installation. After fresh install I make a full backup, so this can be used as template. There are 6.1 and 6.2 of DSM version. So, You just need to copy this backup to Your Backup Directory in Proxmox and Restore it. 3615xs and 3617xs has successfully tested on HP MicroServer Gen 8 / Proxmox 5.3.5 | 5.3.6! DS918 was successfully installed on SuperMicro SYS-1029P-WT with Intel Xeon Silver 4110. I've decided to publish it to for everybody too. Download Link --------------->>>>> MEGA.CO.NZ There are some several important points: TWO Network Interfaces. First NIC is disabled. It has been done because for DSM first device must be with suitable MAC which is fixed in Grub. If You need multiple instance of DSM (as me) - it's costly to mofidy everytime Grub. So Second NIC uses any MAC address from Proxmox. TWO Disk Drives. Firsk disk - is bootable disk made by Jun! Don't try to use is as Storage. (maybe it's painfully, I haven't checked). Second Drive - it's a System Drive where was DSM has already installed. Second drive capacity - 6 GB! For me it's suitable - I use free capacity 1.3 GB only for Software and another drive for everything. If You need more for System Drive - Just Resize Disk before first start/initialization. I have tested that there is no errors after resizing before first initialization. Boot Drive - Sata0.
  8. I am game, and went ahead with this on my Supermicro server, running ARPL 1.0b3 bare metal. And, well, my geekbench multicore score has been tripled (https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19587925) - still a bit below average, but already my VMM performance is much much better. I executed the above after shutting down my VMs in VMM, but DSM was still running. Ran geekbench, then started up my VM again from DSM. Thanks @idaanx @pocopico @fbelavenuto - hope you all enjoy the the festive season
  9. I think @idaanx testing is sufficiently comprehensive... hopefully loader devs can address in the new year. For my own testing, on my supermicro server, I could not get latest ARPL (1.0b9) or Tinycore (0.9.3) to work. With ARPL, my NICs would disappear from the router after DSM booted, and DSM not reachable. Tinycore, NICs would show in router with correct IPs but again DSM not reachable (not even ssh). ARPL 1.03b worked fine, but suffers from performance issue.
  10. Thanks for the info. I decided to run tests on my 2 systems (running old ARPL): HP Microserver Gen8, Intel Xeon E3-1265L v2, ARPL v0.4alpha4. Geekbench score is above average for the CPU, so good on this one - https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19568279 Supermicro MiniServer X10SDV-TLN4F, Intel Xeon D-1541, ARPL v0.4alpha6. Geekbench score is about 25% of the average, so really bad (and this is my main server that runs windows VMs - and it feels really slow). https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19568321 I'm now going to try latest ARPL on the Supermicro and see what happens.

  15. hi guys, i've already posted this question but probably in the wrong section and now i've more information the DSM 6.2-23739 with jun 1.03b loader running on an old supermicro 24bays with the adaptec 5805 (bios 5.2-0) xpenology running well and everything that i need works perfectly, but now i need more storage, actually there are only 2 hdd, the Ironwolf 4tb (ST4000VN008-2DR)in a storage pool and in rad1, and i've bought two new Seagate IronWolf 4TB (ST4000VN006-3CW) but the xpenology in the storage manager after a lot of reboot not recognized it and only see the old 2 disks available i've tried to go to bios and boot into adaptec bios and all 4 disks are seen, so the problem is not releated to hardware or cable what can i try to do?
  16. I am in the same boat was hoping to see this loader, but the real programmers explained to me the difficulties of this endeavor. I am using the RS4021xs with my Supermicro server system.
  18. hi guys, i'm new to community and xpenology, i've this hardware a supermicro 24bays with 2 ironwolf 4tb in raid1 almost full, i've bought another 2x4tb ironwolf hdd and installed in there, when i reboot the xpenology i can't found any of this two new hdd 1st. i've in there an old 500gb hdd and i remove it for dismiss it and in the same bay i've put 1 of the newest hdd and not work, after reboot i don't see any new drive, i've tried to put again the old 500gb and xpenology recognize it 2nd. all the sata cable are connected well, i've checked a lot of times 3rd. i know that xpenology run thanks to a loader in a usb and i see it that but i've no idea on how to boot into bios for see if the newest are recognozied by the mobo(i don't made this installation and i can't dismiss tth 4th. im on DS3617xs - DSM 6.2-23739 5th. suggest?
  19. ok i've indagate a bit more, i reboot the supermicro and i've accessed to the bios and i can see only the adaptec 5805 configuration and there i can see the two new hdd. What can i check if the HDD are seen in the bios but not in xpenology? in storage manager under hdd/sdd i cannot see them
  20. Got DSM 7.0.1 U2 running on a Supermicro X9SCA-F Board. Working good so far. I also added a LSI2008 HBA Card and after adding the mpt2sas extension it's recognized as well. One small hickup though: Onboard I have 6 SATA Ports + 8 Ports from the HBA card. I want to use the 8 Ports of the HBA first then use the 6 onboard SATA ports. I changed my SataPortMap and DiskIdxMap as follows: SataPortMap=68 DiskIdxMap=0800 Now my Onboard Sata Ports start at Disk 9 but the HBA Ports still start from Disk 6. When I lower the SataPortMap to e.g. 48 the HBA Disks start at 5 but I can only use 4 Ports from the onboard controller. Any idea what's going on or I'm doing wrong? Any help appreciated.
  21. Hi, have a any news about FS6400? I'm thinking of making this model Supermicro X11DPL-I 2x Xeon Silver 4110 128Gb 2x LSI 9300-16i
  22. Hi. I'm building a NAS for home usage and would like to run a couple of VM's on it as well. For this I found the SuperMicro SYS-5019S-M attractive as it''s not that expensive, it's a 1U with 4 hotswap bays. The only question left is; will this thing be compatible with DSM 6.x? I searched around and found some people running DSM on supermicro, however I'm not really sure about this type. I also can't figure out which sata controller it has (if at least it has one standard?) and if this will be compatible. I'm looking to run raid01 on it with 4 disks. Any input would be appreciated
  23. hi my mother board supermicro x10sdv-tp8f Dual LAN with 10G SFP+ from D-1500 SoC Quad LAN with 1GbE with Intel® I350-AM4 Dual LAN with 1GbE with Intel® I210 Single LAN with 1 Realtek RTL8211E PHY (dedicated IPMI)
  24. first of all apologize if my english is not very good, I have mounted the dsm 7.1 on an intel hardware: supermicro x10sdv-tp8f motherboard (intel xeon d-1518, 8cores,6 LAN 1GB, 2 LAN 10GB) 16ram ddr ecc, hba lsi 3008 controller 2u box from the manufacturer chembro sas/sata with 14 disks, 2 power supplies I installed the installation version of (velabenuto) v0.5-alfa1, I followed all the configuration steps and selected the version for RS4021xs+, which is the most similar hardware I have for that version It has really been installed without any let's say serious problem detects disks (but not in correct order), says one power supply fails (both power supplies work fine) I attach screenshots and photos I would like to be able to organize the hard drives correctly the hba controller has all the front drives connected to it, and the rear small drive is connected to the sata controller on the motherboard ,thanks😁
