  1. I'm trying to delete the /etc.defaults folder but my commands aren't working and my linux is rusty. I'm only able to delete files Inside /etc.defaults but not the folder itself. I'm on custom hardware, DS918+ 6.2 Assuming i am logged in SSH Putty as Admin, could someone tell me what the command is for deleting (/etc.defaults) or any folder on my system? Or how to go about deleting it?
  2. Thanks Olegin, i did everything here you said to do with 1 exception. I could not delete the /etc.default folder so i deleted the contents inside the folder. I then migrated back after fresh install on new hdd but i am still having problems. Do you think its because i did not delete the whole folder?
  3. Could someone suggest me the process on what to do if my system WAS hw transcoding with Real SN/MAC but after i changed hardware now its not showing hw transcoding? Photo Station is NOT making thumbnails for Videos anymore. 😓 Look at the attached images of my ssh. Does this mean i have hardware Transcoding Working but software Transcoding NOT Working?
  4. Thanks for this Polanskiman. This makes sense. So the only way to remedy here, from what i understand you are saying is i would need to do a reinstall using a fresh usb and put the real (legit) SN where its supposed to be in grub, as well as the real legit mac in grub and just reinstall. No need for NIC mac address, as it is irrelevant if using real mac/sn. Does this sound correct? Im on DSM 6.2.2-24922. So to reinstall with new fresh usb with correct sn/mac, i am curious which install i should do: The one where it keeps my system settings etc, or the other one that totally wipes all? So i tried new usb with real sn/mac but it still wont let me log in. I chose "Reinstall" option #2 at juns bootloader 1.04b for 918+ What is weird is that Synology assistant is not showing the mac address i put in grub cfg, it is showing another one ive never seen.. Not working.
  5. So i needed to swap hardware out to get qsv and transcoding working. Prior to changing hardware and making a new usb, I was using my real sn/mac from my synology and was able to reap the benefits of (though i didnt use them) having a fully functioning box. But since its been so long since ive made that usb, i forgot how to or where to input the real sn/mac or if i still need to input my mac address from my board/nic or not. I know this is borderline not cool because of terms of use etc. But could someone PM me with a link or a how to re-implement using my real sn/mac on my xpen machine?
  6. Thanks again. So i have new motherboard z390 and i5-8400. they have arrived. I'm using real sn/mac and i dont want anything to change so that i can still use QSV. I'd like to use same flash drive with xpen, same case and keep everything on hard disks, except change motherboard and cpu out. My motherboard is compatible i've already tested. I will put sata in correct ports. Can i simply remove old 1150 haswell motherboard and put in new 1151 coffee lake motherboard? And everything should work? or do i need a newly created flash drive?
  7. An update for you all. Thanks to olegin for the guide first off You got me setup with hardware transcode on my pentium g4560 b250m hardware. As for the xeon e3-1225v3 I gave up. Haswell is just to old for my needs plus the xeon igpu is lame. I'm waiting for an i5-8400 I got off ebay for $99 usd, but I'm worried that won't be enough for my needs. See My 918+ has serviio as well as backups going along with many other programs. Emby is my transcoding program, and also library of 5tb of movies and TV shows to scan. I Need this to Online transcode 1-2 streams of uhd Hevc to 1080p on top of all these other programs at the same time. With all that said, I got a z390 board cheap and this i5-8400 on the way. Does anyone have similar setup? Can anyone share if they think this will be enough? Should I just get a i7-8700 so I don't have to worry?
  8. This may be a stretch but in looking at the upcoming ds1419dva And dva3219 which include GeForce graphics cards I have to wonder if the drivers for these couldn't somehow Be implemented for maybe the ds918 images we have or similar. A. Are these new diskstations even coming to market? B. Can anyone tell if the drivers for these models could possibly be tweaked for use in our xpenology builds? Or is this just a silly child's dream?

  12. +1 on this request for i219 support on Z390 as i just purchased ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 4 with i219-v and cant get 918+ 1.04b DSM installed. Any thoughts on how i can get i219 working on 1.04b would be awesome thanks.
  13. @Olegin Thanks again for all your work on this. Question: Currently on one of my machines running 918+ 1.04b i do NOT have a dev/dri folder. I have purchased new Z390 board + i5-8400 with UHD 630 Ipgu Can i simply swap this new hardware in, and the dev/dri folder will show up? Or will i have to do some kind of re-installation? p.s ive tested new motherboard and cpu and they work with Xpenology
  14. Thanks flyride. My fault i didnt see your reply Much appreciated.
  15. Im having no luck at all getting my 10gbe cards recognized by DSM. i've had the exact card working on the 3615 image but it wont work on either of my 918+ setups. These x540-t2 are supported OOB from synologies page here so im not sure whats up. Shouldn't this card (x540-t2) work OOB without driver ext on ds918+ 1.04b image? Or do i need to install the driver extension? Any help would be seriously appreciated
  16. thanks flyride i meant search thread. is there a search thread option? And regarding ixgbe driver is in the DS918 image that means the drivers are already in the image, so no needed extra drivers correct? I just tested the x540-t2 in windows and works fine. ive been playing around with the network settings for hours. But it must be something i have/dont have. From your knowledge, when adding a pcie nic card to this, would you have to add the mac addy in config under nic card #2 on the usb install? or would it just work automatically without adding that info?
  17. guys i cant find the search function on this site otherwise i would have searched. Just switched over to 918+ 1.04b (2 machines) and realized that my X540-T2's in both rigs arent communicating with each other, whereas they were in the 3615xs 1.02/1.03 I should have done my research, i would have found (or at least i believe i found) that the 918+ doesn't have spot for pciex8+ nic card...?? No wonder its not working. Does anyone know if adding drivers would allow me to add nic/pcie lan cards to the ds918+/1.04b? Or did the maker of the 1.04b loader allow for to add pcie nic cards?
  18. AMAZING for the first time in 2 weeks (no sleep for 3 nights) ive finally got x265 to 1080p to play on my old tv via DLNA!!!!!!!! I cant believe it! Now my problem is: All video only play maybe 20 seconds, then goes to next video in Video Station.. I will google this one. i also notice ffmpeg is running below DSM desktop in task manager which seems out of place. has anyone heard of dlna stop after 20 seconds and change to another video? Each video only play 20 seconds or less
  19. thank you kindly. i will attempt uhd x265-->1080p from Video Station to Samsung Un46D6420 via DLNA Cat6 I have sheild tv, but i prefer Samsung built in DLNA for some reason. Will post follow up!
  20. Yes. i have tried Serviio, Video Station, Emby, Media Station. In fact they are all currently installed, and all running. Also, i have yet to restart DSM or Update to Version: 6.2.1-23824 yet, since i installed everything. I will update to Version: 6.2.1-23824 , then restart, and try again. Do you suggest an output device? thank you kindly
  21. Honeslty.. I am 1-2 stage pass Noob for Synology. My guess is that i cannot transcode x265 because my output is different than yours. I do not see HEVC in my output. Or Maybe because i have wrong Nic info or wrong Dsm version????? I truly do not know sir. But i am extremely grateful for your assistance
  22. Thank you Guru Master Olegin root@ahern3:~# cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf {"success":true,"activated_codec":["h264_dec","h264_enc","mpeg4part2_dec","aac_dec","aac_enc","vc1_dec","vc1_enc","hevc_dec","ac3_dec"],"token":"c4bb153f19962434ab57a7bcb7abd93b"} btw i need to transcode x265/hevc/x264-4k ---->>>1080p for DLNA to Old Samsung TV. This is my goal.
  23. Thanks for the info. @Olegin I looked in /dev/dri and all i see is: card0 renderD128 Using 918+ 1.04b with Real SN/MAC and i3-4130 Should i change CPU to E3-1225v3 for hardware transcoding? i have an extra e3-1225v3 haswell. Why no transcoding? oh i just see your latest post so i did what you say... cat /proc/cpuinfo command my result.. Can you help me get transcoding working? i also have another Supermicro board x10-sll-f i can use haswell i3 or e3-122v3 BIG EDIT: i am on 6.2-23739 processor : 0 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x19 cpu MHz : 3392.348 cache size : 3072 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 0 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf eagerfpu pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm arat epb invpcid_single pln pts dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt bugs : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 bogomips : 6784.69 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 1 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x19 cpu MHz : 3392.348 cache size : 3072 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 1 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 2 initial apicid : 2 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf eagerfpu pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm arat epb invpcid_single pln pts dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt bugs : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 bogomips : 6784.69 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 2 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x19 cpu MHz : 3392.348 cache size : 3072 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 0 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 1 initial apicid : 1 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf eagerfpu pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm arat epb invpcid_single pln pts dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt bugs : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 bogomips : 6784.69 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual power management: processor : 3 vendor_id : GenuineIntel cpu family : 6 model : 60 model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz stepping : 3 microcode : 0x19 cpu MHz : 3392.348 cache size : 3072 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 4 core id : 1 cpu cores : 2 apicid : 3 initial apicid : 3 fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 13 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe syscall nx pdpe1gb rdtscp lm constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts rep_good nopl xtopology nonstop_tsc aperfmperf eagerfpu pni pclmulqdq dtes64 monitor ds_cpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 sdbg fma cx16 xtpr pdcm pcid sse4_1 sse4_2 movbe popcnt tsc_deadline_timer aes xsave avx f16c rdrand lahf_lm abm arat epb invpcid_single pln pts dtherm tpr_shadow vnmi flexpriority ept vpid fsgsbase tsc_adjust bmi1 avx2 smep bmi2 erms invpcid xsaveopt bugs : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 bogomips : 6784.69 clflush size : 64 cache_alignment : 64 address sizes : 39 bits physical, 48 bits virtual
