Thanks to you amazing folks, i setup my first few Xpenologies in 2018 but now i could really use your help so thank you all! I happened upon a serial and mac from a 2012 Diskstation -15 series. I created new pen drive/Diskstation with 918+ stuffs on it,1.4 loader, latest DSM and kept all my shared folders/files, for the sole purpose of getting thumbnails created for the Vidoes in "photo" folder. 500gb of videos 250gb photos. Because DSM refused to create thumbs for vids without valid Serial/Mac. So it appears I have a "legit" account with Synology (though some options greyed out) for the time being and Photostation created all the thumbs after 3 days. Although Moments isnt creating Thumbs, not sure why. So my questions are, from what you have seen in the past with this, what is your knowledge on these areas? Hypothetically, if Synology decided to rescind my account/serial etc, would they also somehow delete/rollback my thumbnails in Photo folder or anywhere? Does this happen? can i back up @eaDir thumbnails?? I can login to my Syno account from browser, but i'm getting an error twice (see below image) when attempting login from dsm control panel.i dont even get option to input my user/password. Is this common when using real serial/mac address? Would proceeding here make things worse or bad to my DS ? I don't need quick connect or any support, i only needed thumbnails created. I'm afraid to proceed here, to screw something up, in a holding pattern for your advice Lastly, should i instead be using the correct model number for my serial/mac pair instead of the 918+ profile? Does it make a difference for real Serial/Mac on Xpenology? DISCLAIMER: Using a real serial and mac does NOT make Xpenology unit LEGIT. . I could really use some help from Senior members here. I've spent the last year working on setting up Xpenology so i could finally get my 600GB Home photo-video collection sorted. The major problem i am having is that DSM will not create thumbnails for my videos, in VideoStation or PhotoStation or Moments. If cant find a solution this, its a total deal-breaker in regards to using Xpenology for me. I still dont know in my case if its DSM blocking thumbnail creation or something else, but polanskiman said in THIS thread among others, that DSM blocks thumbnail creation for bad/not legit SN/MAC combos. Is it still a fact that without a SN/MAC from a real Synology machine, that we cant get video thumbnails? My goal is to open up the topic for more solutions to Video thumbnail creation being blocked AND to ask, assuming that my current 6.2 DSM is blocking video thumbnail creation, what can i do about this? What are my options? Downgrade? Create my own thumbnails somehow????? p.s I wish i knew that we cant get this feature on xpenology when i started this whole thing. Was there a solution to this topic? Is it possible to get video thumbnails without a valid, Serial/Mac pair on 6.2 + I'm on the latest 6.2 with 1.4 loader, Ds3615xs and thumbs aren't working for my vids on two identical machine. Can someone tell me how i can get thumbnails for my home videos? even if it means having to reencode? p.s there's a few videos that have thumbnails, but the rest (1000's) dont ive reindexed like a hundred times

I hate to be this guy but i'm under the weather and need to update DSM to get the update for Moments I'm on DSM 6.2-23739 DS3615xs and want to update to 6.2.1-23824 could someone remind me what loader i need for 6.2.1-23824?

Silly question maybe? Is there any issue with updating 6.2? Are we only doing the important updates? Which 6.2 do we start with and stop with?

Hello, I'm running diskstation ds3617xs with dsm6.1.7 Juns 1.02b Supermicro X10SLL-F & Xeon 1225v3 16gb ddr3 working flawlessly with the exception of SHR vs the Raid 10 i need. Its all backed up to an XPE 3615 in raid 0, about 6tb total. I'm going to be creating a raid 10 volume on the 3617 4 x 8tb. My goal was to also use an ssd cache with the new Raid 10 volume but im reading this wont be possible without adding the ssd cache to the Volume. 1: can i use ssd cache with this new setup raid 10, without it effecting the volume? By this i mean, if an ssd cache drive fails, the whole thing wont go to shyte. 2. Im considering using 6.2 instead of 6.1.7. Is 6.2 and Juns loader 1.03 considered as "safe" as using 6.1.7?

I'm looking for a guide just like "Tutorial - Install DSM 6.2 on ESXi 6.7" except i need the guide for Baremetal. Can anyone point me to this?

What's with the b360? Is that a known working and compatible board people use? Just curious why you chose that board

I also have the same card and it works for all ports. Just move the card to a different slot and make sure in bios you don't have something preventing the slot from working.

if it were me, i would just install 6.1 on UEFI. SInce that IS what i currently am on Beggars cant be choosey! a couple things to do before you do that: make certain that C1E and vtx are disabled. 100%! then i would boot the computer to the Boot menu (f8 for asus if i remember correct), where it gives you a few options to force boot to the source of your choosing.i.e usb force boot, and also try "reinstall" option at Jun's boot screen

do you see under "hard drive BBS priorities"? make sure NOTHING is selected in that. and look at my updated post. if none of that helps change anything, then you need to go back and remake the USB drive, following directions as if you have never made an XPE boot drive before

evolucja I took the initiative for you to Google "How to boot legacy mode ASRock Q1900-ITX" and found the info you need. For emphasis, i defer to Hostilians answer "Just change your Bios to Legacy not UEFI" this is correct. I've uploaded an image of your bios with the first boot option being boot from Legacy, and the second boot option booting from UEFI. You will want to select the USB "im assuming" device or ANY device for that matter, that does NOT have the "UEFI" label in it like you see in this image i've attached. In many cases nowadays, you will not find an option to completely change your bios to force legacy mode or at least the 200-300 motherboards i've came across in 2018 What you will find in newer boards is the option to choose Legacy OR UEFI within each boot option itself. Very important Also: Disable C1E - in your bios its labeled "C-states" i believe look at second image below for this disable Intel VTX if you can as well- 2nd image in your bios you also should look for usb settings and enable the usb to be seen as "hard drive" These will be optimal settings for your board to boot with XPE.
