About Me

  1. hi, there is no "tandem" its just software raid on sata ports, if there is more then one controller providing the ports the order of the controller/ports might be important (depending on how you specify it in the syno config file, the default is 12 ports in a row, behind that the sata ports and then the usb ports) you might take thist into consideration if you want to move your drives directly to a new hardware viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16933 afaik the SataPortMap is about how the ports are spread over the controllers and the order of the ports in the case of your board (you have not specifiyd the brand) it might be SataPortMap=242 or SataPortMap=62 the 88SE9128 chip has only 2 ports so the 2 external ports you mention might have a diffrent (additional) controller you did not specify or there are "switchable" from 2 internal to 2 extrenal (sometimes seen this with controller cards, not so often on boards - provide more/exaxt information and the predictions get better) for 9 disks/ports you still missing ports so you will need a additional controller with at least 2 ports if you have all ports in a row, fill the "slots" (ports) without a gap and specify the ports (internal sata, external sata, usb ports, -> ) in the config correctly, then to set SataPortMap might be of no importance you should realy be carefull if you do this without a backup and tranfering the drives directly, if you do you should map the order of the drives from the "old" system and should do a test installtion on the new system with one drive (test-installing the dsm 6.x) and map the ports with a additional drive so you know exactly the order of the ports in you new system, after you are shure about the port mapping you could put in your 9 drives and install the new dsm to it (keeping the data raid) imho you should be prepared that the synology dsm riad fails and you have to use an live linux trom usb to manualy reasemble/recover your data raid and backup/offload it (after your first attempt of directly migarting fails spectecular) beside putting in all 9 drives in install the new dsm (without the option to modify the configuration first, the first boot will be with the 12 drive default of the 3615/3617) there is also the option to install one addtional (10th) drive first, modify the config according to the new hadware, put the 9 old drives in and see if the system comes up booting from the one drive and "spreading" the working system to the 9 "additional" drives (expanding the system partition raid1 from 1 drive to 10 drives) if that works you will have the system on all 10 drives an can remove the 10th drive it might be possible to test all this in a vm (virtualbox) before doing it with the baremetal but it will take some time its much safer and easyer to have a backup of all date
  3. question about "SataPortMap=" settings. i have 8 sata ports on MB and i bought a ASM 106x HBA card. The card detail as below: this is a PCE-E 2.0 SATA 6Gbps controller card base on ASM1061 chipset. It has two esata external and two sata internal connectors. But only two working either one esata and one sata OR two esata. it base on jumper setting combination. Ok, my question is should i change grub.conf setting? IF yes, what should i set to? SataPortMap=82? please give me your advise.
  4. Great. Here is my Mobo Intel® X79 chipset : 2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), brown 4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), black Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10 Marvell® PCIe 9128 controller : 2 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray I also have 2 on the rear panel that i would not be using. I will be adding 3 of the cards you suggested for 6 additional ports soo.. SataPortMap=86 or SataPortMap=8222? Thanks,
  5. If you don't got them yet, you can find in my signature a model of SATA Extension Card that is working fine with XPenology. I don't see at this point why your migration may fail. Let's take the time to have one more advice to be sure. Of course you will take care of correctly config your Grub with the good combination of SataPortMap=422 The first 4 representing the number of your SATA drives wired on your motherboard, the nexts the number of you SATA drives wired on secondary cards. E.G. : 5 SATA on motherboard, 4 on secondary SATA Card => SataPortMap=52
  6. Successfully updated to DSM 6.1.1-15101 Update 1 with loader 1.02a for DS3615xs from old version 1.01! Hardware: MSI Z77A-GD65, Core i7 2600k, 4x4GB DDR3, 6x2TB onboard, LSI 9207-8i HBA with 4x2TB & 1x120GB SSD for caching Procedure: 1.) unmounted SSD cache and shut down 2.) copied serial & mac from old loader stick (1.01) 3.) mounted 1.02a synoboot.img, adopted serial & mac, set sataportmap to "6" and wrote it to new loader stick 4.) started the system and let it boot normally 5.) logged in through webinterface (everything there) 6.) downloaded the PAT file directly from Synology (DSM_RS3617xs_15101.pat) and selected "manual update" 7.) rebooted, logged in and let DSM install Update 1 8.) another reboot, mounted SSD cache again and everything works fine
  7. REPORT: ASROCK C236 WSI working w/ DS3617xs 6.1 Jun's Mod V1.02-alpha2 on DSM 6.1.1-15101 MB: ASROCK C236 WSI CPU: Intel E3-1240L v5 (no iGPU) but DSM recognized as INTEL Xeon D-1527. Storage controler: Intel C236 w/ 8x SATA3 6Gb/s, support RAID 0,1,5,10 NIC: Intel® i210+Intel® i219 MEM: Kingston DDR4 8G 2133 ECC KVR21E15D8/8 X2 HDD: Seagate ironwolf 4TB ST4000VN008 X5 Installation process is quite simple to follow how-to guidance. Changed & updated grub.conf VID & PID, mac1 & mac2, Sataportmap set to 8. Then burn img to a Sandisk ultra fit 16GB pendisk. Boot with default boot option. Then router showed DS3617xs IP address. Then install DSM as on screen instruction. Login & configuration and balabala.... Issues unresolved: 1. Can't register Synology account via DSM but can register on synology website with SN which gen by https://xpenology.github.io/serial_generator/serial_generator_new.html 2. NIC seems LAN1 switched as LAN2. maybe grub.conf mac1 & mac2 has issues. PS: Did tried FreeNAS 11 nightly and want to leverage ZFS power but tried a day then quite. It's too difficult to use. Maybe because i had used DSM for years.
  8. what ever it is it shoud be found in /var/log/messages, dsm has to start a driver and recognise ports for storage I think i found what i was looking for but unsure, Can you confirm? It starts at "port-5:0" so i guess thats why DSM starts with "Disk 5" instead of 1? Question now is how i can modify the configuration to start at port 1 and if it's even possible. Edit: Btw, I forgott but last night i had problems with one drive dropping out completley after i rebooted the machine. Pulled it and inserted it again, no go in DSM. Looked in dmesg and i could see the drive apear. i Found out it was DSM that moved the drive from number 20 to 21 so i had to change the synoinfo valus again to include that drive, and BAM! the drive was back and i had to rebuild the raid. So now it shows Drive 6 to 21..... Should i edit the sataportmap maybe? In that case, What would be a good value to start with? /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:0/end_device-5:0/target5:0:0/5:0:0:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:1/end_device-5:1/target5:0:1/5:0:1:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:2/end_device-5:2/target5:0:2/5:0:2:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:3/end_device-5:3/target5:0:3/5:0:3:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:4/end_device-5:4/target5:0:4/5:0:4:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:5/end_device-5:5/target5:0:5/5:0:5:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:6/end_device-5:6/target5:0:6/5:0:6:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/0000:02:00.0/host5/port-5:7/end_device-5:7/target5:0:7/5:0:7:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:0/end_device-6:0/target6:0:0/6:0:0:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:1/end_device-6:1/target6:0:1/6:0:1:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:2/end_device-6:2/target6:0:2/6:0:2:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:3/end_device-6:3/target6:0:3/6:0:3:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:4/end_device-6:4/target6:0:4/6:0:4:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:5/end_device-6:5/target6:0:5/6:0:5:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:6/end_device-6:6/target6:0:6/6:0:6:0 /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.0/0000:03:00.0/host6/port-6:7/end_device-6:7/target6:0:7/6:0:7:0 Any sugestions on this yet?

  10. i dont know if anything overrides the other, to play safe they should correspond so if you define 20 internal ports the max number should be 20 (at least its what i would try) beside i would try to take all "visible" sata ports into account, so if the 6 onboard ports are active (not disabled in bios) i would count them, so its 6 + 8 + 8 = 22 usbportcfg 0011 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 esataportcfg 0000 1111 1100 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 internalportcfg 0000 0000 0011 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 maxdisks=22 usbportcfg=‭30000000‬ esataportcfg=FC00000 internalportcfg=3FFFFF you also might define sataportmap in grub.cfg, from 1 to 688 after checking the manual of the board, there are 2 more sata ports as eSATA (Marvell 88SE621), disable them
  11. 5-20? might be 4 x onboard sata? in grub.cfg you might try to change sataportmap from 1 to 88 (onboard sata disabled) if there are only 8 + 8 sata ports or 488 if there are 4 onboard ports and maxdisks=20? usbportcfg, esataportcfg, internalportcfg looks ok for 20 ports you already asked a few days ago but gave no information about your systemboard how many addition satat you have and how it is configured?

    You are using the wrong serial number. Don;t use the HP serialnumber but generate a synology one. I can't find the link but it has been posted many times. You can find it! IT didn't help. Don't use the HP serial number, was generate a synology one. set extra_initrd="extra.lzma" set info="info.txt" set vid=0x090C set pid=0x1000 set sn=1230LWN464934 set mac1=00215A752564 set rootdev=/dev/md0 set netif_num=1 set extra_args_3615='' set common_args_3615='syno_hdd_powerup_seq=0 HddHotplug=0 syno_hw_version=DS3615xs vender_format_version=2 console=ttyS0,115200n8 withefi elevator=elevator quiet' set sata_args='sata_uid=1 sata_pcislot=5 synoboot_satadom=1 DiskIdxMap=0C SataPortMap=1 SasIdxMap=0' set default='0' set timeout='3' set fallback='1' if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env if [ -n "$saved_entry" ]; then set default="${saved_entry}" fi fi VERSION="with Jun's Mod v1.02-alpha" search --file -s /zImage
  15. Hi, I answer to my own post (http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3380&start=560#p96634), as I've just migrated my Q1900 xpenology. I followed the tutorial done by polanskiman for June's loader 1.01 As described in the tutorial I've changed the serial, mac address and VID / PID values. I've also set the Sataportmap value to 22. I've not added the rmmod=r8169 insmod=r8168 that were present in my DSM 5.2 Xpenoboot After the final reboot the IP was not fixed anymore but issued from the DHCP, so I changed it back to fixed.
Config: MB:Asus M4N68T-M V2 CPU:Phoenom II x955 RAM:4Gb Disks: 1 hitachi + 1WD
  17. Been following this thread and the original post for a few days. I have a Microserver Gen8 which gets stuck in an install loop. Looking back at the instructions the only thing I haven't check is enabling serial port in bios. Could that have an issue? I also have another question. My prospective NAS has 4 bays. The first is filled with a blank HD. I will eventually add 2 drives from my old 212j (After having first migrated the data over). In terms of "SataPortMap" whats should I add for th initial install? The number of bays, the number of current Has or the number I will end up with? I assume 4 right? Thanks.
  18. there is no "calculation" its just the number of ports of the controllers in a system written in a row the mentioned bord has 6 ports provided by the h97 chipset and the naming an the block diagram from the manual give no indication the there is a difference between them (sata0-5) so the number for sataportmap would not be 6 but as i understand it its only needed if there are problems and more then one controller, if you put an additional 4 port controller into the system it would be 64 (6 on the first, 4 on the second) it is still odd that 2 disks where missing, according to what you wrote there was just one disk on a different controller, all other disks (8) where on one lsi controller and should habe been found you shoud test it with a clean installation on one disk and the second disk on different ports to proof the layout and that all ports are working
  19. Hi IG-88, Do you know how to calculate the SataPortMap for a GA-H87N-Wifi? http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA- ... -rev-10#ov Many thanks, Killseeker
  20. hi, the board seem to have 2+4 intel sata + 8 lsi sata/sas you could try to set the SataPortMap=1 (1 is default on usb stick, grub.cfg) to 428 or 248 (depending on how the 2+4 sata intel onboard satas are found) but i guess depending on boot configuration it might also be the 8 lsi's are first? (would explain that the 8 lsi disk are found an the 2 on intel are "out" of the counting for internal ports to not risk further raid problems i would suggest to disconnect all raid drives, take a empty hdd and make an new install to this drive (with the already working 6.0.2 usb stick), with that and a second disk to connect for testing you might be able to find what SataPortMap config is working, just connct the 2nd drive on one of the controllers (intel 4x, intel 2x, lsi 8x) and see what dsm finds you also should document witch controller is bootable and what the boot order is i have a asrock c2550d4i and it has 2+4 intel and 2+4 marvel ports (4224 when it comes to the mapping in dsm, but i have never try'd to make the marvel bootable or change the boot order, just default and disabled boot for additional controllers) PS: its also helpful to have a complete map ready with hdd serial numbers of drives and to witch port (hardware) they are connected, if that is compared to what dsm shows (sn's are sown) its likely to see the pattern of the mapping
  21. Ok, solved. I need to do a clean install, not a migration. On Microserver g8 used sataportmap=1
  22. Oh, I came from quicknick 6.0.2 and it was fine. Could you share your grub.cfg? I can't make it working.. maybe the sataportmap? I tried 1, 4,44,422,42. But when I put in "reinstall" he work.
  23. Hi. I'm having a slight problem with the 6.0. I followed all the instructions, had to use 'force installation' but the system is only recognising two drives out of three across the four SATA ports (only the driver connected to SATA0 and SATA1). I tried the 'append SataPortMap=xx' command in the boot menu but it doesn't seems to do anything. I tried just '4', '44' or '22'. Still no luck. My motherboard is ASRock H61MV-ITX so all the four SATA ports should be on one controller. Any ideas, please? EDIT: I forgot to add my system specs Bare metal installation, Jun's official v.1.01 loader with DSM 6.0.2-8451 installed Motherboard specs: ASRock H61MV-ITX with Pentium G2120 and 1 x 4GB DDR3 RAM EDIT: Looks like I've sorted it. For some reason in the grub/boot menu setting the SATA ports didn't helped me. I fixed it by changing the value directly in the image and writing it again into the USB key. Oddly enough, DSM recognised my HDDs in the 'Storage Manager' like this: 1st spot occupied, 2nd spot occupied, 3rd and 4th empty followed by the 5th spot occupied. And I have 3x HDDs plugged into SATA0,SATA1 and SATA2. And I set SataPortMap value to 4.
