About Me

  1. Which spk module should I use for an Intel Core 5-11600KF?
  3. Hi All, Does anyone tested this mainboard with Xpenology? Is it any good? Is the bios good without Chinese Spyware? The hardware specs are perfect. It is the ultimate Nas mainboard. If any known brand should build this I would buy it directly. Szbox NAS N100 You need to buy a cpu fan. 4. I install Xpenology for the first time, the bootloader has started, asks to select the NAS model. Tell me what to choose. The specs are: pentium G3250, RAM- 8GB, MB- Asus h81m.
  5. I have managed to compile the i915.ko module (and associated modules) for Intel 10th Gen CPUs (i.e. 9BC8 etc.) Tested and working on DS918+ 7.0.1-42218 up3; Redpill loader on baremetal instance. The patched i915 module from IG88 had issues and would end up in a hardlockup/kernel panic for me. For anyone who wants to test, i have attached the compiled modules. https://www.filehosting.org/file/details/3054890/i915.7z https://www104.zippyshare.com/v/oPItjx82/file.html https://dailyuploads.net/41tops2ix61g
  6. Hello guys, I need your help. I was using a xpenology build since fall of 2018 and was working AMAZING!! The configuration was: - Asrock H370M-ITX/ac (6 SATA, 2 x NIC: i211V and i219V) - i3 8700 - 32Gb DDR4 RAM - SATA card SYBA SI-MPE40125 4 SATA ports -with Marvell 88SE9215 controller-, installed via M.2 e-key to mini pic-e adapter. So with the 6 ports of the motherboard have a total of 10 SATA ports. - 5x8Tb disks - Using Jun's loader 1.04b 918+ BAREMETAL (with extra.lzma for the second NIC) with DSM 6.2.3 I was completely in love with the build, I thought it was almost perfect for my needs (well, never had enough space ). I was always updating until I couldn't do it more in DSM 6.2.3. It was working so well, that even that I was tempted numerous of times to update to DSM 7 (but I was not confident enough), I kept locked to DSM 6.2.3 because I was not sure if there was anything I could do better with DSM 7, at least for my needs, and I wanted to wait until I buy new disks in summer, to do an update to DSM 7.2. It was working rock solid almost 24/7 for almost 5.5 years!! Sadly, a couple of weeks ago, the motherboard died (with no explanation), and there was no way to find a motherboard to replace it, at least in this form factor. So I had to find a replacement board (with obviously a new processor) to match the needs (and seriously there are really few possibilities, the world shortage is huge, at least in mini-ITX boards), thinking I would be able to make it work straight away with my build with few changes in the config, so I found the following: - Asrock H610M-ITX/AC (4 SATA, 1 x NIC: i219V) - i3 12100 - Same 32GB DDR4 RAM Using the mentioned SYBA card in the M.2 port, still have 8 SATA ports, and is fine for my needs even losing 2 ports, as have just 5 disks. I can see the disks in the EFI BIOS, so are being recognised, which is great as was one of my fears. So, I changed the grub.cfg of the USB with the Jun's loader of the previous configuration, and modified: - The mac address of my NIC, I got the mac address of the new board via USB with Ubuntu LTS (NOTE ABOUT MAC ADDRESSES IN THE PREVIOUS BUILD: "strangely" I was using in the previous build a "well known" mac addresses with a serial number that you can find in the forum, and it was working beautifully even with transcoding, and I don't think I was using the real mac addresses of the board!! Don't remember seriously... unless I changed the NIC mac addresses permanently to these ones, which I am not sure if it is even possible). - The SataPortMap configuration to 44 (means first 4 ports of 1st controller and first 4 ports of 2nd controller), instead the previous 64 As the previous build was using the extra.lzma for the i219V, I chose this motherboard because it had the same NIC, and I thought it would work straight away. So I booted the computer with the USB, and I am not not able to run the previous DSM installation nor able to find any Synology device with the web or the Synology assistant. Not sure if I have to use the reinstall option of the Jun's loader because of the new configuration (or is just if you want to install again DSM), and just used it with the default option of the loader (the first BAREMETAL one). I have the feeling that maybe the NIC is not being recognised and I don't understand why. Being headless I don't see any message when connected to my monitor via DisplayPort about if the loader is having any problem. Not sure what to do nor debug. Don't remember if I changed any BIOS settings in the past that maybe could matter. Just changed the hot plug of the SATA and few things more... Obviously, as I want to recover all the disks and see that everything is correct, I would like to avoid installing the DSM 7 for now (as I don't want to risk the existent disks and I have no other backups), and would love to first having DSM 6.2.3 working, and not have any problem afterwards to updated. But now I just want to see everything is correct and the DSM 6.2.3. Can anyone help me with that? I am very desperate and I don't know what more to do. Find attached the grub.cfg just in case there is any error. Thank you very much. grub.cfg
  7. Hi. I'm completely new to XPEnology, though I have been doing some research for a few days. I was thinking of building a small NAS at home, I want it mainly for storage, specially photos, maybe some streaming, but that would not be its main purpose. I was aiming at using an Asrock J5040 with passive cooling with a DC PSU + PicoPSU since I don't want any noise from it. Then I've seen Asrock is about to release some new motherboards using N100 chip, which has a lower TDP and already integrates a DC input for 19V. However, I cannot find any information about whether I can get to install DSM using a N100 chip. Searching for N100 won't throw any meaningful results. Does anybody know if this is possible? Thanks

  10. Hi all, I have this setup: - motherboard: ASRock N100DC-ITX (built-in CPU Intel N100) - RAM: Lexar DDR4, 32 GB, 3200MHz, CL22 - NVMe: SSD Lexar NM620 256GB M.2 2280 PCI-E x4 Gen3 - 2 x 3,5inch SATA HDD 2TB - 90 watt psu System DSM is not booting, i think that computer freezing after bootloader is loaded. I have tried both "arpl" and "arc" projects (even the arc-a variant) in the latest versions. I have tried many syno models but the behavior is the same every time. After correctly configuring the bootloader and building it, the bootloader loads and after displaying the IP address to DSM, after a while displaying cmd line, the system hangs. It does not respond to the keyboard, it does not respond to ping at the indicated IP address (with or without a port). While loading the bootloader, it responds to pings. I have been waiting for a long time, even half an hour, but still nothing, the indicated address is not loading. Does anyone have an idea what else can be done or tried? Attached are both screens where the system stops and you cannot connect via IP to dsm.
  11. Hello guys, I have had a custom build based on ASRock J3160-ITX running for 7 years w/o any problems. My primary usage is home-use, some containers, syno photo, drive, pc backups,.. I dont need RAID, since I am backing up data additionaly on a cloud and also occasionally on a external usb device. Power consumption is important: I had Idle: 8-11Wh and Peak: 18-25Wh Must: Passive cooling Now I want to upgrade the hardware to the following, while maintaining the same or even lower power usage and be complete silent with passive cooling and SSDs: - ASUS Prime N100I-D D4-CSM 110€ - PNY CS1030 250GB M.2 NVMe Gen3 25€ - Samsung 870 EVO SATA 4TB SSD 175€ - Kingston 8GB RAM KVR32S22S6/8 22€ - PicoPSU 90W 35€ + 12V, 7,5A Power Supply 22€ - Chieftec IX-01B Mini ITX Case 32€ = TOTAL: 420€ I have seen one single person posting in the forum that he was able to upgrade to DSM 7.2 with N100 SOC, but other than that there are not much infos about the N100. Can somebody tell me if the N100 is supported without any issues and also your opinion on my build is welcomed? Others can feel free to share their N100 build or take my build if they wanna build a new one. Thanks for your help!
  12. Hello, I bought another nuc NUC5i3RYH and want to install DSM 7.2. I have there 120GB SATA SSD drive. So I burned ARC loader on the usb drive, boot it and click through it. Then it told me to navigate here: http://192.168.50.36:5000/ I have chosen pat file and wait until it installs. Then the nuc restarts, it boots using SATA drive not usb drive, the screen is black and the NUC is unresponsive. This is the waiting screen, which tells me there was some error after the 10 minutes. I don't know what to do. I noticed SATA DRive has 3 or two partitions on it, so I took it out connected to windows and delete all partitions. And tried again. It does not help, I tried also another devices DS something but it always ends with blank screen and unable to connect to it. Don't you know what could be wrong ?
  13. Hello I bought this intel NUC - Intel NUC 11 Essential Kit NUC11ATKC2 (https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/intel-nuc/NUC11AT_L10_UG.pdf) and want to install DSM on it. It has no SATA drive but m2 nvme, which is probably the problem. I tried to install it using ARC loader but with no success telling me the hard drive is missing. Is there any way how to install DSM on this machine ? I have read almost all I could find and basically people are searching how to add m2 ssd storage, but not install DSM on m2 ssd. I have found mentions that it is not possible to install DSM on non SATA drive, but also someone wrote this is already fixed by patching kernel or something on reddit. Is there any way how to install it and is there any guide how to install it ? Thank you
15. Hi, I have a very reliable synology nas I have been using for 10 years. Looking to get something more modern which is a little faster. Was looking at 723+ but than I realized it is a simple AMD processor and no hardware encoding (not critical), so i have a spare Intel NUC i7 NUC7i7BNH i thought could I use this and load DSM and that is when I stumbled on this site. Doing a search for this model NUC nothing came up so I figured I would ask if any one has done it and if it is possible? Thoughts?
  16. Hello, everyone. I have backport Intel igc driver for Synology Kernel 4.4.180. It works. You can have a try. Caution: this driver is experimental, use it at your own risk. https://github.com/jim3ma/synology-igc
  18. Hello, I've been struggling with the memory and CPU performance of DSM on Intel systems for about a year. Someone who only runs DSM as a USB hard drive on the router will certainly not care about this topic. Maybe the reference to the anyway faulty Apollo Lake CPUs: https://www.computerbase.de/2019-09/intel-apollo-lake-lpc-degradation-defekt-stepping/ My focus is on Intel boards with Braswell to Skylake CPUs, as these are very energy-efficient and at the same time affordable for use as NAS, or are already left over as a superseded device. Now the problems that plague me: - the CPU only runs on the base clock frequency and not on boost, on systems where Intel EIST cannot be switched off in the BIOS. - Memory modules only run at 1066MHz, but they should work at 1600 or 1866MHz. Since in Linux dmidecode -t 17 is displayed incorrectly also in Windows Task Manager/Performance/Memory/far right, I decided to use the 7-zip program, which is available on all OSs. Anyone whose test is far below my "reference system" should probably consider running Xpenology on Windows in the Virtualbox. 19. This could be a promising upgrade to my DS220+ if it can run Xpenology https://www.cnx-software.com/2023/10/25/aoostar-r1-an-intel-n100-2-bay-nas-mini-pc-and-2-5gbe-router/
  20. Hi, ALL! Just one question fron noobie. Are Intel Wi-Fi AX210 supporting by DSM(or any Wi-Fi adapter)? I want use AX, instead of internal GLAN. Thanxx.
  21. Hi, as I could find in some posts, with actual DSM 7.1 IntelXE (iGPU for 10th gen CPU) will be not supported. I think about to buy an Odrio H3 server, that has this small CPU (Intel Celeron N5105), and I want to use one of these DVA stations (as I need 5 cams). Will be there a support for this CPU - maybe with DSM 7.2? Or are the chances very low?
  23. This machine was running virtually, inside ESXi 5.5. All disks were put into the AsMedia PCI-e card and passed through to the VM. Installation was done in a USB drive though. It was running as a DVA1622 (to get the 8 Surveillance Station licenses). Original hardware: Make: Dell Precision WorkStation T7400 CPU: Intel Xeon E5405 x2 RAM: 40 GB PCI-E: AsMedia PIC-E 12-port adapter LAN: Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet New hardware: Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77-DS3H CPU: Intel i7-3770K 3.5GHz (4 Core | 8 Thread) 8MB 77W LGA1155 CPU RAM: 32 GB Corsair Pro (4x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz CL9 PC3-12800U PSU: Thermaltake Smart 700W LAN: Atheros AR8161 Gigabit Ethernet I am using the ARPL (Automated Red Pill Loader) to set up the system. I've found some issues, so, I am documenting the progress here for future me or other people. Within ARPL, I picked the CPUInfo + Codec patch addons. Will update this thread until I find a stable installation.
  25. Hello people! I used the various loaders for many years until I purchased a DS1821+ in 2021 which has served me well. With the changes to Google Workspace for backing up my data to the cloud I am going to purchase another device I use to backup to that is remote to the house as here in NZ we have fibre to the home with the base package being 300/100 so decent level performance for backing up but also the ability to collect the backup unit if I need to locally restore via my Lan for full speed performance. In NZ there are a number of older DS units such as the DS415+ with drives going fairly cheaply which seemed to be perfect for backup target and while they are coming EOL for updates I remembered about this site and wondered whether the latest loaders would allow the DS to boot up to a newer version if / when I needed to upgrade beyond the official updates? I'd imagine that getting the loader on to the unit would be the harder task though? Anyone got any thoughts and/or done this before? Thanks, Chris
