Hi Everyone!

Due to DSM 6.x Proxmox Backup Template I have made a clean backups for several Xpenology installations on Proxmox.

All installation was made via Automated Redpill Loader by fbelavenuto.

Download Link --------------->>>>>  https://mega.nz/folder/42RmGBgR#GPZIL371zNE3uTt14CmY2A

WARNINGS!

  • DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE FROM 6.x to 7.x WITHOUT FULL BACKUP!
  • DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE 7.x to NEW VERSIONS WITHOUT FULL BACKUP!

How to use this backups:

  1. Choose the correct platform according to the table from this topic: DSM 7.x Loaders and Platforms
  2. Download backup
  3. Put this backup to Your BACKUP STORAGE in Proxmox (e.g. local -> /var/lib/vz/dump)
  4. Open WEB UI
  5. Open STORAGE in WEB UI
  6. Choose the backup which has been downloaded
  7. Click on Restore
  8. NECESSARILY! Choose the storage where backup will be restored. (e.g. local)

There are some several important points:

  1. TWO Network Interfaces. First NIC is disabled. It has been done because for DSM first device must be with suitable MAC which is fixed in Grub. If You need multiple instance of DSM (as me) - it's costly to mofidy everytime Grub. So Second NIC uses any MAC address from Proxmox.
  2. TWO Hard Disk Drives. Firsk disk - is bootable disk made by Automated Redpill Loader! Don't try to use is as Storage. (maybe it's painfully, I haven't checked). Second Drive - it's a System Drive where was DSM has already installed.
  3. Second drive capacity - 11 GB! All space of this driver is gone for Synology DSM Firmware.
    You can extend this partition or create a new Hard disk's for making a Storage pool.
  4. Boot Drive - Sata0 (where loader is installed).

Implemented addons:

  • DS3622xs+ ->
    • misc
    • powersched
    • 9p
    • acpid
  • DS918+ ->
    • i915-8th
    • i915-10th
    • misc

Nice thank you for doing this I'm sure it will help out a lot of people.

The download link isn't working for me, do you have to actually share the file/folder?

Currently I use 7.1.1

I don't understand, what's the problem with 7.1?

Great work, i am using it for some time but i have an interesting issue. When rebooted, sometimes the vm gets stuck with 100% cpu usage and i need to restart it 1-2 times before it works. Any chance for a solution?

Im using it with a nuc, on a proxmox vm for ds918+.

Hi

I'm triying this template (918p) but i can't connect with the vm

My Proxmox version is 8.1.4

I have restored the backup, And I have reserved an static IP in my router for the MAC of second nic, when I start the vm I show the loader getting the correct IP that I have reserved, but when I try to open the web GUI with the IP:5000 it doesn't connect.

I lauched a ping to the IP reserved, when vm is starting and get the IP the ping answer correctly 3 packets but then the follow packets losts. I have no idea why is this behaivour, I haven't firewall so.......

Any ideas

I tried changeing VirtiO for e1000 but I get the same problem

Sorry for my poor english, I'm spanish

Faced with absolutely same issue at 8.1.4 proxmox too (running on hp microserver gen8)

Got working case only with ds3622xsp image with changes in vm config - net0 enabled and machine type - q35.

I'm on Proxmox 8.2.2 and just got a VM for DS918+ 7.1.1 Update 3 running from the template without changing anything. CPU is i5-8500T and the VM setting for processor is "host" in the template.

Maybe try updating Proxmox?

Hi @timonych, amazing job!

Will this template work with an existing DSM 7 installation if I pass the disks which have DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 2 installed? I guess it will try to upgrade the existing installation and fear the worst, hence asking if you've any experience?

Hi

I am searching for a backup solution to backup DSM running on Proxmox as a vm.  Will this work for Proxmox 8.3.3 and DSM 7.2?  If so, sos it serve as a full BA for DSM vm to be able to restore on Proxmox if either Proxmox or DSM fail?

I started a thread looking for a viable BU solution here...is this a good solution?

Thanks!
