Captainfingerbang Posted February 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2019 Im having no luck at all getting my 10gbe cards recognized by DSM. i've had the exact card working on the 3615 image but it wont work on either of my 918+ setups. These x540-t2 are supported OOB from synologies page here so im not sure whats up. Shouldn't this card (x540-t2) work OOB without driver ext on ds918+ 1.04b image? Or do i need to install the driver extension? Any help would be seriously appreciated
flyride Posted February 26, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2019 Did this post not explain the situation for you? DS918+ has no slot for 10Gbe card so the Synology support page would not apply.

mervincm Posted April 27, 2019 Share #7 Posted April 27, 2019 Yes the 10g works bare metal and no I didn’t have to add a driver. I am on 1.04b 918+ 5.21 with hardware transcoding working for plex on 390z chipset and i3-8100 cpu I have not yet tried the 6.

mervincm Posted April 27, 2019 Share #9 Posted April 27, 2019 Yup, I have a lot of spare gear to test with. After being down trying to get the 9600K CPU hw transcoding working, I am enjoying a nice stable working system for a while I am hoping the drivers get updated to work with the 9600K CPU, and that the turbo mode issue is resolved at some point, but till then, the i3-8100 is working remarkably well. mgrobins Posted May 22, 2019 Share #14 Posted May 22, 2019 I had issues with DSM not recognising my x550 NICs onboard my Supermicro MB. If I'm not wrong the module of that NIC is basee on igb drivers. this change worked for me: Try modifying the grub file as following if it doesn't work: In the gub file change the following line: Code: Select all initrd $img/ramdisk.lzma $img/$extra_initrd to: Code: Select all initrd $img/$extra_initrd $img/ramdisk.lzma
TNa681 Posted January 20, 2021 Share #15 Posted January 20, 2021 Hi, ask somebody to confirm if it is possible to add a 10GbE PCIe card to a bare metal installation of 918+, would that really work?
flyride Posted January 20, 2021 Share #16 Posted January 20, 2021 As long as the card has driver support, either from the loader or extra.lzma, 10Gbe works fine.
Captainfingerbang Posted January 20, 2021 Author Share #17 Posted January 20, 2021 (edited) Hey flyride, It's been a while since I read the spec of 918+ Xpen dsm but quick question about 10gbe. I Have 2 918+ 1.04b baremetal all ssd arrays- both with pcie x1 intel nic to router. Then, I have x540-t2 in both units. Not using on board Realtek nic. I Have the x540-t2's direct connected but showing only 1 network interface in dsm for the x540-t2 cards, it's not showing both. For example I want to link aggregate and bind. I recall reading something about a max lan port limitation for Xpen 918+ but not sure,i forgot. Is this most likely caused by me not using an extra.lzma? And/Or Would this be because I only listed 1 nic in config when setting up the dsm usb drive? To solve this would I need to remake the dsm usb drive but add the extra.lzma? I'm trepidatious to remake usb drives because there's important data on 1,backed up to the other. flyride Posted January 21, 2021 Share #18 Posted January 21, 2021 A quick search for "DS918+ network" turned up this post which is exactly your situation. https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/39583-intel-x540-t2-nic-not-obtaining-ip-address-stays-disconnected/?tab=comments#comment-186615 Remember that the onboard (RealTek) NIC uses a port even if you are not using it, unless you disable in the BIOS. mervincm Posted January 22, 2021 Share #19 Posted January 22, 2021 I can confirm on my 918+ xpenology system with 2 port 10 gig E intel card I see both NICs (my motherboard NIC is disabled)
wessu Posted April 11, 2023 Share #20 Posted April 11, 2023 Just wanted to share my progress here to help others who might stumble into this post. I got 2 Inspur Intel X540-T2 10gbe from Aliexpress for $20 each. On Windows 11, I had to search for driver for it. v26 driver for Intel x64 worked. (v28 did not work) https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/58954/intel-ethernet-converged-network-adapter-x540t2/downloads.html As far DS918+ goes, the card was not recognized when I plugged it in. Long story short, I had to redo the bootloader for RedPill TC and using the listmods option, TC found ixgbe ethernet plugged and added the driver for it. I rebooted and it worked! I also modified the synoinfo.conf to allow 4 ethernet cards. Everything is working! On a side note, the ones I got do not come with a long profile metal bracket so I still have to find them. Right now, I'm not using any brackets. Also if you plug them into a x16 PCIe then you need to put some tape or just use the x8 PCIe slot on the motherboard.
