  1. Dear gents, I have big problems after upgrading my xpeno box to DSM 5.0-4458_Update2 with gnoBoot. So big that i said "WTF, DELETE ALL AND START FROM SCRATCH! (with backup)" Now, after a full re-installation and a restore of the config, i have the same fu@%^ issues! Please help Thanks!!!
  2. Thanks for sharing this with us. Sounds extremely easy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Switch your mobos and you're good to go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. If you're using jbod from the mobo and not any raid array, there is no connection in regards to other hardware components than the HDDs, so go and buy the damn mobo The worst thing it can happen is that your UPS might not work. The data is secure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Glad I could be helpful Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. You are using as 99% of this forum, an x86 processor meaning that you will need to use: Here's a how to bootstrap a syno box (but for an ARM proc) http://www.ingmarverheij.com/how-to-install-ipkg-on-synology-nas-ds212/
  7. Search for threads or other blogs on how to bootstrap your syno box. After bootstrapping, you can use ipkg to install Linux software. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. mmmmm, nice mobo and cpu... kinda pricey... but really nice!
  9. Hi mate, My personal belief is that your small box will not be able to load the system as it's quite big. I'm just saying... i haven't even checked it
  10. bombai, maybe you can bootstrap your new xpeno box and install afterwards the zfsonlinux package. Nas4Free and FreeNas are both using ZFS as being BSD systems. After installing zfsonlinux, try to attach the ZFS volume to xpeno
  11. I'm using since more than 10y Afraid.org for DNS hosting. They also offer DDNS and custom DDNS with your own domains. F o r f r e e ! !
  12. Hi, 1. DSM will mirror itself on all HDDs at installation 2. SHR-1 is recommended, meaning RAID5. Personally i would do it with 4HDDs in order to take benefit of more storage space (http://www.synology.com/en-us/support/RAID_calculator) 3. Recommendation is to prepare a rig with 4x HDDs (or more) and 1x SSD for Cache 4. Connect the NAS to a UPS and activate Write cache Game over! That's 120MB/s writing/reading. MINIMUM!
  13. Man, lately i just watch this rather small community grow since last year like hell but after seeing your post i said to myself that i need to give some feedback and not an advice (in my country we always say that giving an advice is a national sport). [list=]1. I consider that this is one of the most well documented posts in the history of this forum. Good job mate! Nevertheless, most of us created some kind of configurations and scenarios and cost calculations but never wrote their final result to an internet blackboard or a forum. Sad that we miss the part where we inspire others. 2. Who the hell are you to create a system like this? What will this system used for? Last year i created a home NAS for home with 4HDDs and an E350 CPU with SHR-1 and from a total of 8.3TB, i still have free about 5TB 3. If i had that money prepared for a NAS, i would have definitively went to a Synology partner and requested a quote from them for a SMB Syno NAS. And after getting the quote i would just go to them and ask for another quote with a discount included. They don't sell this stuff so often, so why not bargain (a lot!)? This community was created by users to help other users achieve their goal of creating a DIY NAS. If you think that the binaries that are created by this community will be matched 100% with the ones from Synology, you're wrong. You don't get real support here and no warranty. I'm not saying that the output from this project is not qualitative but for sure it has some bugs. There is no support from Syno for the things that really get messed up. For that pile of storage you enumerated, i would go with vendor support. Period. By the way, THANKS!
  14. My XPenology box has a problem saving the "Power Schedule" and it doesn't go to sleep Any ideas?
  15. Man, I don't know what you understand by "production" but for me, a home user with advanced IT needs(sarcasm) it's miraculously working since 1y with no failure, although that I played a lot with my 4x3TB raid5 xpenology box. I would have had 365+ days of uptime if it weren't those maintenance a where I upgraded the software. So stability yes. Compatibility yes but Support is best effort. Good luck
  16. Try to check in the DHCP server what IP address that server receives. After finding the IP, open a browser and navigate to http://ipaddress:5000 This is how i did it... Probably the server receives an IP address from a different subnet than your computer where the Syno Assistant is installed...
  17. Goooood work trantor!!! I haven't upgraded yet as I am still using the very stable 3211 but I will do it when I will find some free time for keyboard clapping!
  18. Sorry mate, i don't think so. My guess is that Synology never posted the sources for VisualStation in the GPL repository, so nothing we can do here.
  19. Hi mate, What's the difference between them? From what i see, at an OS level, nothing. Maybe you can make it clear for us
  20. It's for sure because of the SN. Modify it to a random one. A nice how-to can be found here: viewtopic.php?p=1344 PS: the file is located on your usb stick used to boot the system Good luck
  21. You can try the 4.2.3211 x64 version
  22. Hi mate, Try the 4.2 3211 x64 version. Maybe it's working well
