  1. Your call mate! If you like moving your zpool from OS to OS, maybe you can give a try and also share the results for ZFSonLinux. Try to install it on your DiskStation and map the zpool in readonly mode for a start. Here's the ZFSonLinux page: http://zfsonlinux.org/
  2. Hi and sorry to act like a moron, but why the hell would you still use ZFS? Yeah, i know, it's amazing. But still... It's a memory eating cow, and if you don't have ECC memory the whole concept is somehow screwed. Do as you want, but my opinion, after i tested most of the nas OSes is that overall, the most easiest to use, friendliest, and reliable... bla bla bla is Xpenology (SynoGPL) PS: Tested = for more than 1 year
  3. @freddiep Have you tried fixing WOL by following the replies from viewtopic.php?f=2&t=665 ?
  4. Thread marked as solved. Hope you don't have any complains with this action
  5. Hello, Just wanted to show you guys an alternate tool to iostat, a program i was using on FreeNAS, long time before i knew about xpenology and synogpl. It's really nice to monitor the performance of your system. It's a command line tool but it has nice fonts. Try it! ipkg update ipkg install iostat bash-3.2# dstat ----total-cpu-usage---- -dsk/total- -net/total- ---paging-- ---system-- usr sys idl wai hiq siq| read writ| recv send| in out | int csw 6 3 80 6. It did happened to me once. Since then, absolutely no issues! Oh wait! No reboot since then! ) This is not a real issue for me. It causes no other issues. The single problem i see is that the startup is a bit longer, but that's all.
  7. The grub.conf should be on the drive that emulates the usb stick
  8. You might give it a try... I suggest using the 2668++ version
  9. Hi guys, Have you tried changing the DNS servers inside the DSM? Try Google public DNSes: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  10. Hi, you seem quite experienced. There is already a thread in regards to a Trojan horse in xpenology. Please go to viewtopic.php?f=2&t=951#p4652 Thanks
  11. Hi, I just wanted to clarify some things here: - The failed ssh logins mean that somebody is trying with a dictionary attack to hack into your device via ssh default port. They usually scan large networks for open ports and then they try to hack in. It can also be in some other application or service like DSM or just FTP. You can protect yourself by changing the default ssh port from 22 to 2222 for example, by deactivating ssh access or just by activating ssh private keys - If there is or would be a trojan horse in xpenology, it would definitively mean that anytime, from anywhere, somebody can have access on your DSM without you even noticing something strange. Well, actually, it depends on how deep you look. - personally i didn't saw anything strange but i'm no expert in linux or network security
  12. Thanks, but it looks boooring (in comparison to DSM)
  13. Yes, an E350. It does more than a good job for this kind of NAS. Maximum power load 147W (1.3.3 Power Supply Selection)
  14. 1). In order to solve eth1 (eth0 is presumed to be your existing, native card on the MB) config lost after reboot try by editing /etc/rc.local and by adding at the end of it the following statements: # USB Network setup insmod /lib/modules/usbnet.ko insmod /lib/modules/ax88179_178a.ko ip address add 192.168.1.11/24 brd + dev eth1 ifconfig eth1 up 2). I also get The operation failed. Please log in to DSM again and retry. (221) error when trying to open Control Panel / Networking in the DSM. I guess this is one reason the real Synology box is so expensive. Support is included!
  15. Hey mate, You packed there a really nice DIYN blog! Congrats. I hope it will help some people into choosing xpenology I've tested them all(except U-NAS) and in comparison to DSM, they kinda all suck. Later edit: I own a watt-meter and i had checked my nas. It's in full load at 55W. Yours is close, not ~120 as you mentioned.
  16. unmesh, i had the same issue and solved it. Just follow my post.
  17. but you're not running it natively on your hardware? huh... why?
  18. If you did not found an answer yet, try installing the Webmin package. Webmin has a module for database management.
  19. Sure, you need to update the version of the "usbcore.ko" module See: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=915#p4292 In my system the driver is working (connected to an USB 2.0 port). You need to configure the new ethX manually. I already had the modified USB drivers installed and added this one to /lib/modules/ and ran the insmod commands. However, my interface just not show up in either in the web console or in the terminal when I use the ifconfig command. What else can do I do the debug the problem? I'm running 4.2 x64 build 3211. Thanks. Try viewtopic.php?f=2&t=928&p=4615#p4615615
  20. Hi totalnas, Today i found some time for playing with my xpenology and actually "completing" my DYI xpenology nas and installed the USB OHCI modules (working) but also the AX88179 module. I got no error messages this time, and this is the partial output for /var/log/messages. Still, i cannot see the new ax88179 interface. Any help? Thanks! Later edit: SOLVED! 21. Hi!! I just recreate my usb Key from the img file, reboot my Xpenology and Search in Synology Assistant. Find my new 3211, and migrate with the pat file. And i change the mac dans serial in the grub.conf Well, thank you. It works well. No issues for me! I also added the OHCI and EHCI USB support and my UPS is now visible! Yay!
  22. Hi mate, Did your config was delivered? We want to see your feedback. What DSM version are you using and what issues do you have with it? Cheers!
  23. For my NAS with the configuration from my signature it worked with the modules from pastebin. Easy and quick. Still, it was not working at the beginning because of an error. User error that is: The UPS USB cable was not plugged into the NAS Dear user, NAS has been connected to UPS. Sincerely, Synology DiskStation Thanks for the info mate. We need definitively need more people like you to come with great ideas and hints like this one here!
