  1. So im having a bit of an issue here... ive been using this file for a bit now and worked fine.. im in the process of building a new xpeno box.. i using a asus h310m-c and i5 8400, using loader 1.04 and running latest dsm 6.2.2 u3,, for whatever reason in VMM i import the file, all settings should be good, boot it up but never shows up in assistant. I tried the older one you had made loader 1.01 and it dont work either. Is it maybe a dsm 6.2.2 and or 918+ compatibility issue? i tried installing the synology virtual dsm and it works so i dont think its a cpu/bios virtualization setting.
  2. I looked around the forum but all i can find is mod software to use front panel power button to turn system off.. my situation is different, when i try power down it wont physically turn system off. It disappears from network but i have to manually kill power.. if i do a restart, that works fine. Asus H310m-c csm and i5 8400 1.04 loader dsm 6.2.2 u3
  3. Thanks for the reply. Ya really not sure if there’s Linux support which is kinda of where I thought this answer was going to go. No haven’t purchased hardware, I’ve been looking at local classifieds for some 7th or 8th gen cpu/mobo combos.
  4. So I just found out... I know I’m perhaps behind times... you can use AMDs Ryzen chips with built in APU for transcoding with Plex. Fully supported de and encoding, does this work via plex in synology? Posts I’ve read else are on windows machines, unraid boxes etc.
  5. Any suggested motherboards? Most seem to have rlt 8111 or intel 219
  6. Wanting to use loader 1.04 ds918+, is intel i219 supported?
  7. I want to build a new setup, current one is getting dated.. I've got a 12 hdd hot swap rack mount case, im going to go with a i3 8100, probably get inexpensive kit of 16GB ddr4 ram, 500~600w gold certified PSU, Most motherboard tend to have 4-6 sata ports, I would suppliment that with a recomended LSI card, but for mobo is the hard choice. I've looked and looked and seems that either mobo has i-219 lan or rlt8111h. which one is best in the long run? I have a feeling im going to be suggested to buy a nic card...
  8. Never got your 6.2 file working... Get error failed to format partition on initial setup. Thoughts? Ok found the error, some odd reason when the file was being imported.. under storage settings, it was defaulting to IDE for me? Weird..
  9. Still didnt work Tried new usb, tried a SN and mac posted here, I have dev/dri and after installing ds video and playing a video file codec appears but sn wrong format error Tried again with my newly acquired legit sn/mac and it now works.. haswell pretty limited though root@TestNAS:~# cat /usr/syno/etc/codec/activation.conf {"success":true,"activated_codec":["h264_dec","h264_enc"],"token":""}
  10. Why stay away from Realtek? I see mixed reports about it and intel for that fact. I have dsm 6.2 u2 on 8111e, I’ve also got dsm 6.2.2u3 on 8111h. So I’m not sure if there’s really any concerns here. There’s some loaders that seem to work with intel i211 and some with i219 but vice versa sometimes it doesn’t work.
  11. Neither do I, I have opposite issue, I have dec/dri folder but no codec/activation.conf used legit Sn and Mac but after install complete both numbers looked different than what was inputted

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Ok understood. I do have a haswell cpu and mobo as my main desktop, although I did find a i5 4670, asus z87 pro and 8gb of ram for $190. Seems like a steal but haswell quicksync is limited compared to say 7th gen and up. now that being said I have a legit 918+ SN and mac, (ps I have 2 other sets if your willing to trial and error couple digits, pic is a little fuzzy) do I need to simply put legit Mac in grub or do I need to do something to the actual onboard nic MAC address?

    DSM 6.2 Loader

So is this a DSM limitation of not being able to use quick sync instructions from cpu, unless it being 4th gen or newer?

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Is it possible to run 1.04b 918+ with sandy bridge cpu? It does have quicksync, would be cool to be able to allow hw transcoding.
  15. Didn't work for me, import the file, left settings as is, network options is on e1000 and i did try with the mac address stated above, but when i search for dsm i see it flash momentarily in the list with a 169.254.x.x IP. Nevermind, i guess i had to shut down the old 6.0 DSM VMM
  16. Does anyone here have experience with intel based motherboards that may include 1 or 2 U.2 ports on them? Does it work? Is it possible to use SAS breakout cables to get 4 sata hdds per port? thanks in advance.
  17. Problems just seem to be getting worse. As I try to remove a crashed drive, say hdd3 I follow the data cable from mobo port sata 2 (as there’s 0,1) when I boot back in, hdd 1 is gone. So power off plug back in and now drive 1 says crashed, i now have 4 hdd reporting crashed. The sata port mapping seems completely out of whack, and the only thing that’s coming to my mind is dsm 6.2.2. Been backing up 24/7 since Wednesday, still got 4 and a bit TB to go.
  18. The disk_smart_test_log.xml just shows each time quick or extended test was executed. disk_log.xml does show a past WD hard drive i had several times with fails but was removed back in june.
  19. anyway figured out how to open the file now.. so I see in the disk_overview.xml file the <SN_S300GLW2 model="ST4000DM000-1F2168"> as well as <SN_S300HFMP model="ST4000DM000-1F2168"> Under DSM in Storage manager, under HDD\SSD those hardrives based on those SN are fine and the ones reporting crashed arent in that disk_overview.xml file.
  20. How does one access such files as /var/log/disk_overview.xml When I use terminal i can browse to that directory, but when using something like WinSCP i dont see the directories. Is theres a way to unhide them?
  21. Thanks for the reply, data still seems intact to me from what I’ve tried accessing thus far. I’ve decided to pull off all the data onto other HDDs and will wipe the system and restart.
  22. So repair is done, volume says normal, but hdd still reports crashed but healthy. I rebooted, same thing. What’s the deal?
  23. So in the past week, I've been having issues with my main volume. The first time I noticed this my volume was degraded, disk 5 was not initialized. I did a repair and all was good. A few days later it happened again, but it wouldn't let me repair on disk 5, so I used another HDD that was in the system. On top of that problem, I also had disk 6 having system partition fail, but it also repaired it. Today I wanted to pull out disk 5, but apparently I was pulling out the wrong one, as I would reboot and volume was degraded, so I plug it back in, try another hdd, now my volume was crashed. Once again plug it back in, volume came back degraded, my old disk 5 came back online crashed as well as drive 3 is crashed which happened to be one of the drive I pulled out while trying to find disk 5. Yes I know I should probably label my drives. So the volume is now repairing itself again here for the 3rd time in less than a week. Am I just having that bad of luck??
  24. Get an intel nic card, it’s cheap and will go a long way for the next several releases of DSM. My gigabyte mobo has the same Realtek 8111, i just dropped a $30 intel gig nic pci-e 1x. Works great.
  25. So with the whole brute force going on, suggesting to disable the admin account is causing issues with my download station RSS feeds. The tasks get added but stay stuck in waiting. As soon as I enable admin account they start downloading. I’ve created a new user with every privilege but clearly it’s not making a difference. Suggestions?
