i guess i don't have warranty anymore.
But i'll also give it a shot and ask there for support.
You're correct that you won't have warranty anymore but they should still be able to offer advice & possibly diagnose the issue.

@hannmuell As you have a genuine Synology device it maybe worth looking through the Synology forums or even contacting Synology support for advice.

How did you downgrade the package? Did you have to uninstall and reinstall Moments?
Yes you'll have to uninstall & then download & manually install the older version.

What Bearcat is trying to say is that your d510 pinetrail cpu is too old to run under the 1.04b 918+ combo as it requires a much newer cpu. If you have 6.2 running with 1.03b stick with it.

No it isn't possible, DSM will install on all HDD's automatically.
-
I think you'd be better off disabling the internal sata controller & just using the LSI.

You should be able to, move the disks into another pc however it will depend on the hardware in the old pc so it would be worth testing it with a spare HDD to be sure it will work, make sure you install the same version that your N54 is running.
As you already know you will need to flash the bios to use the 5th sata port, it's pretty easy & should be fairly painless. Search for the bay bios.
You can remove the disks & USB to test free as etc, however I would number the disks & put them back in the same order. -

@DfdsThanks for your advice. No matter what I tried with 1.03b, i wasn't making any progress. on 1.02b, synology assistant found it right away and I was able to install DSM 6.1.7. So does that mean I'm out of luck to upgrade to 6.2? In any case, appreciate your help.
Oh, can I install minor updates? Like DSM 6.1.7 update 2 for example?
Were you trying to install 6.2 or 6.2.1? As for 6.1.7 you should be ok applying the minor updates.
-
@a575606 Your CPU is too old to work with the 1.04 loader, I would suggest trying 1.02b with DSM 6.1.7. Also ensure you have set the USB's vid & pid correctly & set the MAC address to your servers lan card.

@jstancil It would be helpful to know which loader & DSM version you are trying to install. At a guess I would say DSM 6.2 which requires an intel lan card to work. I'd suggest trying jun's 1.02b loader & DSM 6.1 initially.

Some information regarding your hardware might help.
-
Yes you should be able to just put the disks into the DS918+ without loosing any data, however as you've already said having a backup is best practice. It might be worth keeping the N54 as a backup server.

@jensmander Can I suggest that W32Diskimager is added back as an additional tool as a lot of people are familiar with it.

And plugging back into my DIY NAS will retain all my data in my HDD?
What about user accounts, and settings etc.
Thanks.
Yes, all your data and settings will be retained as the USB is only used to boot. If you want to you can backup your configuration data from control panel\update & restore.

It's just as easy to create a new one from scratch.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.
1) DSM will handle the raid array, it's what it's designed to do.
2) Not as far as I'm aware.
3) Setting the HDD's to spin down after a set time & also schedule power on off when not in use.
4) DSM has S.M.A.R.T. testing built in & testing can be scheduled.
I'd suggest having a look at the tutorials & FAQ's then trying to install DSM 6.1 with jun's 1.02b loader & DS3615xs image as this is what most people use & has the widest compatibility..
-
From a quick google search it looks like the previous owner flashed the internal rom. I'd have a look at the tutorials then try booting DSM 6.1 using jun's 1.02b loader & the DS3615xs pat file as this probably has the best chance of working. If it doesn't you could try DSM 5.2

It isn't possible to change the model in that way, a new loader would need to be compiled for the version you want to use.

... to be honest i never thought about this version before but yes, in general this should be a very nice option, too! Then i think i will go for the ASRock J3455-ITX - does someone has this motherboard already in use ?
I believe there are several people using this board with 6.2 but there have been some issues getting hardware transcoding to work,. The J3455B-ITX version was been confirmed as working by user ideasman69, so maybe the better choice.
