    What about AMD (which was loosely compatible on previous bootloader) ? Especially N54L ? 😅

    Several members, including myself have successfully updated a N54L to 6.2 with juns 1.03b loader.

    Hi,

    I'm wanting to upgrade my N54l os 5.2 to os 6? but worried about the data being lost.

    My current setup has 2 x 3tb drives and 2 x 2tb drives with redundancy and currently I only have 4tb of data on them..

    I own another n54l so was thinking of  setting this up with v6 and adding 2 x 4tb drives in to start,( 1 drive with redundancy)  then I could copy the data from old unit to new.

    Once it was done then wipe the 2 x 3tb from old unit and was hoping I could add these 2 x 3tb to the new setup with the current 4tb and extend the volume to accommodate the new drive and still have redundancy.

    Would this work?

    Yes that will work, however you will need to make some config changes to enable SHR ON 6.1. You'll need to disable C1E support in the bios & download jun's 1.02b loader, don't forget to set the correct vid & pid of the USB stick.

    Once up & running to enable SHR you must ssh into server using something like putty & edit /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf, this file is readonly so enter following command:

    sudo -i vi /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf

    comment out/delete
    supportraidgroup="yes"

    then add
    support_syno_hybrid_raid="yes"

    Once done reboot the server & you should be able to add your 3TB disks into the volume once you transferred all the data.

    I can't seem to get my USB stick to work again after installing XPEnology on it.  I experimented with a few USB sticks before settling on one... I'd like to use the other ones like normal USB's again.

    Insert your USB stick into your PC & run diskpart  from a command line, type select disk to show connected drives, type select disk 1 if thats your USB, type clean all to remove ALL partitions on the disk. You can then format as normal. Just make sure you select the correct disk.

    Just tried and it didn't work. Actually, as I suspected. It wasn't that it made the wrong choice, just didn't make any choice! I don't have it connected up to a monitor and just hitting enter on the keyboard sends it on it's way. I used to have it sleep under 5.2 and only come on for an hour or so to backup my main server, so this is an expensive upgrade!

    Just a thought but have you tried it without a keyboard attached? I only attach one to mine if I need to make any bios changes.

    Thank you so much. Though it sits on that one and just needs accepting, so wonder if that will help?

    However, in for a penny etc and I may be adventurous and try 6.2 in a few days. Thanks for confirming, much appreciated. I had feared the old N54L days may have been numbered in terms of updating, so this is great news!

    Removing all the other entries should mean that it doesn't require further input. Yes it's great that the N54 still works with Juns new loader as it's still a good little server.

    Update - managed to get DSM 6.1.7-15284 running on my N54L finally. Thanks to Dfds for his help.

    It didn't go as smoothly as suggested, but with perseverance, I managed it. Couldn't tell you what worked eventually as it was very fraught.

    However, the biggest oddity is that it won't boot up unless I attach a keyboard and hit enter. Seems it won't get past the asking which option to use to boot from. Any clues what I may be able to do about that?

    Glad you're up & running again. To get around the issue you could edit the grub.cfg file on the USB stick & remove all but the 1st menuentry (the baremetal one). Also I don't know if you've seen but Jun has released a new loader for 6.2, it's still beta but it does work with the N54L as I've done a test install on my server.

    Thanks Jun.

    Can i restart my running 3615xs system (look at my signature) with your new Loader at another USB Stick ? The current usb Stick i will pull out. Will be my Datas (Raid 1) and all Packages and DSM adjustments be there again or must i restore all these datas ?

    Sorry for my stupid questions, but what is the best and safiest way for me to upgrade my System ?

    @sunshine This is still beta at present, my advice would be to try this on a separate HDD to ensure that your system will run ok before trying it on your live system.

    So, I seemed to get it working, but initially it seemed to stick at the choices between a bare metal instal or the other two options in the bootloader (correct term?). Or bios. When I hit enter it continued. It forced reboot a couple of times when it seemed to be endlessly stuck and then it was complaining two drives were damaged but useable. But then I updated to 6.1.7 I think it was and finally update 2. Now I'm back to being unable to connect.

    Have I broken it? At least until someone cracks 6.2 I guess. Why didn't I leave well alone!

    I guess there's no way back now???

    The N54L has a AMD cpu  & is therefore not currently supported on 6.2 as Jun has only created a loader for the DS918+  model which seems to only run on late model Intel cpu's. There is a way to downgrade to 6.1, follow the instructions in this thread

    Thank you for replying, but not sure what that is. I use that altered firmware that allows all sorts of other adjustments. Was it by 'the Bay'?

    So, if I understand correctly, I need to boot up into the bios and make a change? I have never changed that, so assume it's on by default? Is there any way of checking through the Synology screen?

    Yes it was the Bay bios, I'm using it too, & no it's not something that you can check through Synology, it has to be done via the bios by booting & pressing F10.
