Thanks for the quick response. So I am a bit confused, Why does jun loader say it's for 6.x.x if I can't upgrade to 6.2.x? It seems to me that the loader description should say 6.1.x so we don't hose our servers?? I am just trying to understand all this as I am a new user..

It depends on whether or not the kernel version changes, at present jun's loader works with DSM 6 through to 6.1. When upgrading it is always best to wait for an announcement on here from someone like Jun saying that it is ok to upgrade.

    Hi,

Now that Synology DSM 6.2.x is out of beta how long before we get support for it? I am new to XPEnology so I am just trying to get a handle on time frame...

    Thank you

As far as I'm aware 6.2 is still in beta. In terms of xpenology a new loader will be required as 6.2 uses a new kernel for which the source code will need to be released.

Hi, sorry for the delay, was away all week. Firstly, thank you Tanguero, I had removed everything from the PC except the hard disk and the loader flash usb but made no difference. Polanskiman, thank you for the suggestions, I have attached a Serial-USB cable with the following settings ( 9600 baud, 8-data bits, no-parity, 1-stop bit) but cannot communicate using HyperTerminal or TeraTerminal. Are these settings correct or do I need a separate software for communicating via the serial port?

They are correct if using putty.

Thanks for the reply. I ssh'd into the my server but not sure where to run the command! I tried running it and it just said command not found? Sorry abit of a noob in this area!

Did you add sudo -i (this makes the command run as root)?

Just looked into the logs abit more and its actually down to the mono package, but still need to be able to run the command.

Enable SSH then use something like putty to access the server, then run the command. If you get a permission error add sudo -i before the command.

I can try the ext4 to see what I end up with. Another thing may be to reinstall and not modify the file above and just use RAID6 (with its limitations) in either BTRFS or ext4 and see what I end up with. But I am guessing this is BTRFS overhead and a lot of it. Maybe there will be less overhead with SHR1, however I would like more redundancy.

Whether you choose to use SHR1, SHR2 or Raid6 I don't think it will make much difference to the available free space as it's BTRFS that's causing the overhead. If the difference in free space between Ext4 & BTRFS is really that much of an issue you need to decide whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

    Hello

i have HP proliant microserver gen 8 and i make usb boot with loader v1.02a2 and i try to install DSM_DS3617xs_15047.pat

but i see this message again and again failed to install the file probably corrupt 13

    Any help?

You would be better off running DS3615xs & jun's 1.02b loader, also make sure you have set the vid & pid  of the USB correctly.

My synology keeps on saying that there is no diskstation found. The NAS does give the interface it should give.

Please provide information regarding hardware, loader & DSM version used as it is impossible to provide you with help otherwise.

DSM4.0 due to end of support from Synology.

I've just discovered that SHR is not supported anymore, I'm now wondering how I will migrate my 3 existing HDD into my N54L :D

No SHR isn't enabled by default but you can enable it quite easily. Check out the FAQ's, the installation one will tell you how to enable SHR.

As you're on DSM 4 there isn't a direct upgrade path to 6.1.4, you would need to upgrade in version order I.e.  4.0>4.3>5.0>5.2>6.1.

Do do you have any spare disks that you could put into the N54L to do a clean install?

I've successfuly installed DSM 6.1.4 u1 following the tutorial.

I will play a bit with this version of DSM and make some test to migrate my existing data.

I was not aware that DSM now supports Virtualization... i'm stuck with a such old version on my DS508 ;)

Ahh yes things have moved on a bit since then, what DSM version were you running on the 508?

Hi & thank you for the warm welcome there !

I've read many other topics now and I think I will go for a baremetal install first and see later regarding the virtualization of my xpenology environment.

In my dreams I'd like to reuse my N54L for other purposes such as local server for dev/testing/sandbox.

Is there any cons to run XPEnology on a virtual machine?

It very much depends on what you want to do with it & personal preference. I have 2 HP microservers both running baremetal. As you've decided to go baremetal you could always install virtualbox to give you some virtualisation options.

Thank you both.  I stuck at it, recreated my boot USB, pressed keys as it booted and finally got the Reinstall option.  First time didn't force the pat file update but tried again and uploaded the pat file.  So I'm back in, lesson learnt and setting up my NAS from scratch with all data still present.

Thanks for your advise, really appreciate it.

Glad to have been of assistance & that you're back up & running.

    When I restart the NAS with a monitor plugged in the first screen I get to;

"This mod is brought to you by Jun.....etc, etc"

Not sure how to invoke the reinstall option.

What version of the loader are you running?
