  1. Edit syslinux.cfg in the XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5592.2.img and add your existing MAC and serial number, no need to generate new ones. This is what I did -> viewtopic.php?p=42163#p42163
  2. This is what I did to upgrade my HP N54L from DSM 4.3 to 5.2 5592 Rel 2. viewtopic.php?p=42163#p42163 Should be equally applicable to you.
  3. No probs. You should look to go to DSM 5.2 5592 first, then apply update 1 and then update 2. Firstly I BACKED UP everything I wasn't prepared to risk losing. Then the following steps. 1. I downloaded the XPEnoboot 5.2-5592.2 DS3615xs boot image from http://xpenology.me/downloads/ 2. Followed the preparing the new boot image steps in here -> http://idmedia.no/general/installing-or ... 2-or-later (basically edited syslinux.cfg and added in my current serial number and mac address) 3. Burnt the edited boot image to a new USB stick. 4. Booted up the N54L with the new stick inserted and selected the Install/Upgrade boot option (you'll need your N54 plugged into a monitor + keyboard) 5. When the install/upgrade boot had completed then on a PC used synology assistant to locate the NAS and connected to it. 6. Downloaded the 5592 PAT file from http://xpenology.me/downloads/ ( NOT Update 1 or Update 2, we do this later) 7. In the DSM connected to in step 5 select the downloaded PAT file and load it. 8. Sit back and let DSM apply the PAT file. 9. When done, log in to DSM and update any packages indicating they need an update. 10. Manually applied DSM 5592 Release 1 in DSM, using the PAT file from http://xpenology.me/downloads/ 11. When applied, rebooted NAS. 12. Logged back into DSM and manually applied 5592 Release 2 using the PAT file from http://xpenology.me/downloads/ That's it.
  4. Successfully updated my N54L from DSM 4.3 -> 5.2 5592.2 today. It was very easy and I had no problems. Even managed to get the power-off on press of power button working so I'm a happy boy
  5. On my DSM 4.3 (trantor) DiskStation> find / -name button.ko /lib/modules/button.ko
  6. - open /etc/rc for editing - search for the first occurrence of the environment variable KERNEL_MODULES and put 'button' at the end of the string.
  7. A few random thoughts:- Block the IP address in your router if you can (not great if you're getting lots of different IP addresses reported and not future proof). Change the default SSH port from 22 to something else (and remember to use that port on any SSH clients you use). I think there's a firewall in DSM (I don't use it), see if you can block specific IP's from there. If you don't need the capability to SSH to your NAS over the internet and only access it (via SSH) over your LAN then look to restrict the IP subnet for SSH access to 192.xxx
  8. Timed shutdown/startup works on my N54L though
  9. The synocommunity site is no longer available. Don't know if this is a short term blip.
  10. The auto-update won't work with 4.3-3810 anyway, you'd need to perform some manual actions to get it working.
  11. Can't help with your question but would like to point out that the version of DSM you're running has a vulnerability which allows hackers to access your NAS. There are reports (on here and in the "legit" Synology community) of this happening and hackers installing bitcoin mining software on your NAS. There is a DSM4.3 build 3810 Update 4 fix available, you should look to move to that asap.
  12. Presumably you reinserted the USB key before restarting ?
  13. Sometimes my NAS takes a while to appear in the Network workgroup list. What happens if you access the NAS directly ? i.e. in an explorer window address bar, type \\DiskStation (or whatever your NAS share name is)
  14. Sounds like you might have had an IP clash then. If you still want a fixed IP then do it via your router and get it to allocate a fixed IP based upon the microserver's MAC address. That way the microserver is setup to use DHCP and the router will manage the IP allocation and not cause IP clashes.
  15. You're looking at the wrong download. You want this -> http://xpenology.trantor.be/ DSM4.3 3810 The archive file contains a .img file (which you burn to the USB stick that you will boot from) and a .pat file which you will select in Synology Assistant as part on the DSM install process. Be warned though that this version of DSM has a security vulnerability so don't connect it to the internet until you patch it. Vuln + patching instructions viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2049 Trantor has a DSM 5.0 beta also, in the "Releases" section of this forum. Up to you which one you want to install.
  16. Just take Trantor's image, write it to a USB stick using the method specified in his notes. Plug the stick into the N54L USB header on the motherboard and turn it on. Then use Synology assistant to install the PAT file in trantor's release and you're done.
  17. OK thanks for the reply! Do you know if you have USB boot priority set to high in the BIOS? I think it's at the default settings, don't know if the SHR formatted HDDs are bootable anyway.
  18. I've got a boot USB stick installed in the microserver (on the motherboard USB header) and it boots from that.
  19. If it's the vanilla 3810 then it's vulnerable, you should look to upgrade asap. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2049
  20. Which release of 4.3 ? I'm trying to work out if you're on a version which has the security flaw that allows hackers to turn your system into a bitcoin miner bot. If so the system might be running so hot (in CPU terms) that it's struggling to serve content to you. Is the CPU level reported in DSM very low ? If so then you've not been hacked.
