The guide listed requires the VMWare ESXI environment to be installed on the microserver first. It's up to you if you want to do that. I don't bother with a VM and installed xpenology directly onto the microserver. This requires a USB stick to hold the boot image.

I am using 5644 on a N54L and mine is now working fine so it is possible. I didn't do anything over and above that described in this thread so check your setup again.

Mine's now restored. The /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/ files had been removed as had the acpid executable. Once restored then we're back in business.

5644 has stopped the power-off button working on my N54L too.

Yes, just applied update 1 via the control panel and all works fine.

Or, if you've jumped quite a few updates then check your media folders are still being indexed. One of the 5592 releases reset the indexed folder list. Control Panel-> Media Indexing (System) ->Indexed folder tab

Can't you login to DSM or the console and shut it down from there ? Or use the DS finder app if the box is connected to a LAN which you have Wifi access to.

There is a thread specifically for this release. The advise on that thread is not to install the release until the Xpenoboot team have produced a working image. Whenever Synology produce an update, don't go blindly applying it. Always check on here first, lots of people try the releases out on testbed systems and report back as to whether they need specific work or not.

Are you logging in as root ? If not, do that, same p/w as the admin user.

There should be a login prompt at the end of all the Linux text. Try pressing the enter key if you don't see a login: prompt.

Can't you plug a monitor/keyboard into the N54L and login direct on the console ? Then make the changes specified in that thread.

All updates using the web interface, select the manual install option, browse to the PAT file (which you've downloaded and placed on a PC or somewhere DSM can see) and install.

No data loss at all. Update 3 did reset the DLNA media folder settings though, but very simple to reapply. And one of the updates (update 4?) needs you to reboot twice as first time all the volumes are unmounted.

Did you select Install/Upgrade when initially booting from the USB stick ? This is what I did on my N54L :- viewtopic.php?p=42163#p42163 The problem could be that you went straight to the release 2 PAT file, follow my steps and initially install the main 5592 PAT file, then reboot and then apply the update file.

Why are you using a 5592 PAT file with a 5565 IMG ? Have you tried the 5592 IMG file with the 5592 PAT ? Presumably you know how to add a MAC address and Serial number to the IMG file contents. Burn the IMG file to USB, not the PAT. Boot from the USB, select install/upgrade in the boot menu. Then use synology assistant to find the system and access it. Then install the 5592 PAT file.

Sure about that ? A tar extract will add new files to a directory or overwrite existing files. It shouldn't remove existing files from the target directory.

My steps take you to DSM 5.2-5592

Perform these steps -> viewtopic.php?p=42163#p42163 That will get you to update 2. Then manually install updates 3&4. (You will need to reboot twice after update 3). Also update 3 will reset your DLNA folder locations if you've got any media content so these need to be reconfigured in VideoStation/MediaStation and reindex media.

Easy update from update 3. All done using native DSM update process and working fine using a single reboot. All DLNA media folders etc still in place.

Update 3 (and presumably Update 4 too as it's a rollup of all prior updates) resets all the DLNA media folder settings to defaults. I had to add back in my folders containing media to the Media Server/Video Station and then reindex.

Successfully applied update 3 to my HP N54L DSM 5.2 5299 Update 2 instance today. Had to reboot twice and then reapply my Media Server and Video Station folder settings + reindex. All good now.
