Rick4 Posted December 17, 2022 Share #1476 Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Hi All! I use ARPL Beta2 without any issues, i have two servers, one with Intel J4125, ans one with Intel J1900, all two CPUs same type as original CPU, so i haven't problem with, WOL, scheduled start and stop works good. But unfortunately if i try any torrent to downoad with download station, i get only 35-40MB/S speed (X8= 320Mbit/speed) I have a fiber optic 1G up and 1G down speed, It i try woth one, or try with 20 files, get same max speed. I see after start downloading 4-5 torrents my cpu running increased to 40-50%. Last day try install to another hardware, Asrock H110m-ITX, I7-6700 CPU, all ok, i installed same DS920+ image, all ok, bott and works flawlessy, menu opens like a charm, all torrent comes with full speed, but see, my CPU frequency is 3.4 GHz, so intel speedstep doesn't work. Have you any idea, how can i get lower speed ( and lower consumption) if my nas is idling? Few years ago used Xpenology, with DSM 6.2.4 that worked for me, now with latest DSM doesn't works. Between "old" J4125 board and new Asrock H110m-itx can measure nearly 3w comsumption with one 6TB disk, 15-->18W, so it's not a huge issue, but i try to solve it. I see, CPU temp or system temp overmeasure nearly +20°C, but doesn't affect. Thanks! Edited December 17, 2022 by Rick4

I use a similar processor to yours, J and N series are just desktop and mobile variants of Atom CPUs. How do you know speedstep is not working? Would you mind doing some test with Geekbench to check your performance to see if it's the same issue as me?

At this moment i haven't any performance issue, but i think, J4025 and J1900 was some issue with speed, it's a kernel or other software issue, i don't know, maybe xpenology use only one cpu core. But few months ago i owned a real DS920+ with 12GB ram, that was same low speed, as my J4025, so i think, that CPUs built to a minimal consumption with minimal performance. Synology said, if you want more power, pay more money... Can you test your config with ARPL 3615xs newest image? I have an idea, that performance issues cause cpu governor or etc insige image. idaanx Posted December 17, 2022 Share #1479 Posted December 17, 2022 My main build is already back to 3615xs and is now working normally. According to the scores I got in Geekbench the single and multi scores where for sure working, also got very similar scores in Ubuntu. But if you have an idea to test some things let me know, I can plug in a different USB and drive and check a different model again.

idaanx Posted December 17, 2022 Share #1483 Posted December 17, 2022 Those scores look normal compared to others with the same chip, I've also tested a i3-6100T which was also good for me. Maybe it's just older CPUs or just Atom basted, any chance you could try it on those other 2 J-series?

With DS920+ model, try more: default: DS920+ image, all ok, i get 160+569 geekbench points, test running until 9 minutes. https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19358476/claim?key=732617 1nd attempt: update ARPL to latest V1.0 beta9 , addons, etc, set, choose DS3615xs, boot ok, but server not visible, get ip, but browser and syno assistant can't see 2nd attempt: choose DS3617xs, boot ok, server visible, system is migratable, all ok, boot, and run test, i get 250 and 168 (yes, multi core lower than single) geekbench test running until 36 minutes. https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19359580/claim?key=301083 At this point i checked bios, and switch VT-d to enabled. 3rd attempt: choose DS3622xs, booting ok, system migratable, download latest dsm, etc etc, server booting up, test began, i get 383 and 227 points, geekbench test running until 24 minutes. https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19360300/claim?key=328030 finally set back to ds920+, but updated ARPL beta9, and VT-d remains enabled in BIOS. Booting up, migrate, all ok, try to run geekbench, it finished in 3-4 minutes only, i get 467+1594 points. https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19360744/claim?key=172775 What cause that low points? The only one difference was between first attempt (160+569) and last attempt (467+1594) VT-d and updated ARPL to latest through grub menu. I think, it works good now. Checked, torrent file download speed was 320Mbit (max 40MB/s), now i get over 90MB/s speed. I am very very happy, that was an unsolved issue in the last 3 months.. Looks like the ARPL update to latest was the solution! Finally switch VT-d disabled, so at this point the latest ARPL beta9 cause i get full power and full torrent speed. I can get 465+1577 points in geekbench. I can feel the more power if i open and close windows on my nas's webinterface, looks like, all ok. https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19361295/claim?key=521211 39 minutes ago, Rick4 said: Edited December 17, 2022 by Rick4
Rick4 Posted December 17, 2022 Share #1490 Posted December 17, 2022 Updated my other server: i7-6700 server with ARPL 1.0 beta2: geekbench test runs 2 minutes only, i get 1027+4277 https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19361394/claim?key=857153 after i updated to ARLPL 1.0 beta9 (updated loader, modules, LKM's, and rebuild loader for clear situation): geekbench test runs 2:25 minutes only, i get 1023+4243, https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/19361657 so at this chipset ARPL update doesn't affect. If you have a second NIC in your system pick Add/edit a cmdline item and name it mac2, value is the other address. In this case you also need to increase the number of interfaces from 1 to 2, go to Add/edit a cmdline item again and name it netif_num, value is 2. Check Show user cmdline to see if it's correct what you put in, should show netif_num: 1 (or 2) and mac1: <address> (and mac2: <address>). In the end it just spoofs your real mac address with the provided... So there is no kind of CRC algorithm with the 2 Mac addresses, so match with the REAL SN? I just wanted to be sure my REAL SN would work with the Mac Addresses from my Intel i350-T2 2 port NIC, since it's not the REAL NIC addresses that goes with the REAL SN. Thanks synology usually uses its own oem area in the mac (1st half) so the mechanism might be bound to that and the tools you may find are usually working the other way around (create a SN and create a mac for it) as we are not "supporting" these things here, dsm itself runs fine without it and there are other ways to get hardware transcoding working (patching files) https://xpenology.com/forum/announcement/2-dsm-serial-number-must-read/ you can use a search engine and start with "Synology SN Tool" (keep the " ") maybe digging a little can give you information you are looking for OR if its a more business oriented use of DSM, maybe consider buying some of the products (the last one is more rhetorical as the licensing terms seem to prevent this imho, but that depends you your country and point of view too)

I've ggot ip and fine connection for setup procedure, and i also got ip on booting. Issue is that i can't see it on the network after that, the assigned ip it's just available for 2 seconds after booting and after that request timed out on that ip when pinging. That the ip only is reachable for a bit at boot is normal, what you ping at that point is the bootloader/ARPL itself. After that it starts the DSM kernel and this takes a while, at this point the ip is not reachable. Wait a couple of minutes and try the Synology Assistant app to find it. If you changed the mac address the ip could have changed too, but the assistant should still find it. Orphée Posted December 18, 2022 Share #1499 Posted December 18, 2022 (edited) @Brunox @Derek the HP Gen10 Plus is an Intel CPU, whereas the HP Gen 10 (non plus) is an AMD CPU. Your best option is to have serial logs access. On the HP Gen8 with ILO there is a way to have a virtual serial port, don't know if the same is possible on Gen10. @fbelavenuto was working to add serial logs to USB key after boot, don't know if it is done and working yet.
