  1. Mmmm yeah, kind of. DS3612xs can be fitted with 12HDDs by default and increase by adding an expansion box. For what do you need those SSDs? Be aware that you'll need 2x same model, same size SSDs for SSD cache. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Depending on how you created the DSM's virtualbox drives, you should see a massive performance degradation due to the virtualization layer
  3. Done, thread moved to Guide - How-To Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. viewtopic.php?t=3490#p20909 So the real question to be raised is: why the hell virtualization was invented? The question is simple: to raise efficiency and to lower costs! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. If you want a rock-solid but more simple platform, go with bare metal. If you want to have DSM as a VM, together with one or more VMs like Win7, it's better to use as hypervisor. It needs a dual core minimum and much more RAM. Depending on hyper visor, from 2GB to... Just a lot more Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Not so many people are using it. I guess. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Topic moved to viewforum.php?f=15 Thanks for your contribution!
  8. Haswell for sure! Better power management. Though, check also the mobo from my signature. 10w TDP!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Recommendation: don't use raid adapters unless in jbod mode Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. WOL is working Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. For me everything works fine(everything which is not Synology bound) I still not fixed my USB issue. I still cannot see the USB drives although I have latest bios and the "correct settings" mentioned by one user Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. What does system information say? What part of your nas seems to be full? CPU, ram, HDD, network? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I think the USB3.0 issue comes from ESX which cannot pass through USB3.0. I might be wrong but I remember a thread or something with this thing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Some cards are not functioning. Try and buy and if not working, return it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I have no idea what you're trying to "activate" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I doubt that Trantor will work on a DSM anytime soon. Hopefully he will still do it but yeah... That is, you are 100% sure for nanoboot, great! Then I'll wait for version DSM 5 from Trantor could ever appears BTW: Once I had DS212j - a unique scrap - iscsi transfers 10MB/s (sic!) My RedayNas Pro is a rocket in comparison with that
  17. We all are skeptics, but after doing real checks, you know it's safe. If you're such a panic dude, buy the original Syno. That's not more safe than this but it has direct support!
  18. I saw some guys around using more than 12 but I don't know how. Guessing by connecting a JBOD enclosure to an eSATA port. Sent from my To Be Filled By O.E.M. using Tapatalk
  19. Jeez... no offence, but your English is crappy and by the way, there is no issue with nanoboot. Going back to gnoboot poses actually a security issue as you don't have the possibility to use latest DSM and patches. Have you ever thought lately that hacking might have occurred just after using the new nanoboot? There are hundreds or thousands of us using nanoboot, some with way more IT skills than the average and found nothing wrong with nanoboot. Cheers mate!
  20. probably because just yabba235's box was hacked
  21. DSPDY is the SPDY daemon. It's safe and used by the webserver on DSM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SPDY)
  22. SATA II has a bandwidth of 3Gbps meaning 375MB at the interface level. Q: What drives can work at those speeds? A: SSDs Q: Will you switch to SSD drives anytime soon? A: ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. DS3612xs has 12bays and accepting 2 more expansion DX12112 units. So in total 36 drives (https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/spec/DS3612xs) but for max performance, you'll need an infiniband connection between the NAS and it's expansion. It will work on eSATA but yeah, not with the same speed. So, to rephrase it, current Xpenology can pe used with lots and lots of drives Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Just wanted to remind you that you have a totally overkill system for a NAS. and to answer your question: Nanoboot 5.0.3.1 with latest pat for DS3612 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
