  1. Make sure your bios is configured correctly and that if you scheduled a shutdown prior a boot make sure it has enough time to shutdown completly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. My question was rhetorical. I believe that abusing Synology's online services doesn't do any good to Xpenology. I wouldn't be surprised if Synology tracks those who are abusing their service. As for WOL it is not related to Synology's servers. This is a feature of the NIC and you do not even need to be connected to the Internet to use WOL. As for your case of WOL not working there could be many reasons to this but my first thought is that your NIC might not be fully compatible with DSM. You need to check HERE
  3. Synology will not accept it for what purpose exactly? To abuse it's online services?? I have used the NIC MAC addresses and my Xpenology works just fine from the exception that I can't use quickconnect and such other online features. You can easily bypass that by using a custom DDNS provider. As for WOL, it also works fine with the NIC's MAC addresses. At least it does for me. Also what about if you have several NICs? That excel sheet only provides a valid pair for 1 serial > 1 MAC at a time.
  4. Hm bummer, think i'm going to contact gigabit to see if i can get a replacement board. Thanks for testing. Did you try removing the RAM and putting it back? For some reason I had to install it twice before the ram was detected. Also that board only accepts max 1600 MHz RAM. As a last resort you can also try updating the BIOS see if that "unlocks" any mysteries.... I tried it 3 times, however, it looks like some 'pins' where the cpu makes contact with are bend, even with my glasses on i can't see it good :/. Can make a good picture, its just to small... So maybe that could be the cause. 'Bent pins where the cpu makes contact'... How is your machine even booting at all? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Pas de quoi. Si tu veux plus de feedback il faut aller sur le forum en anglais ou il y a plus d'activité. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Not sure what the purpose even is to use the generated MAC address instead of your NIC's MAC address.
  9. There, I tried with 16GB! It works. 10. Yes Gigabyte. I haven't tried with 16GB yet, only 8GB. I would have to check if I have some spare RAM see if that would work.
  11. Wouldn't the tutorials be redundant with the http://xpenology.me website?
  12. My previous thread was deleted not sure why. So I will ask again. Is it not possible to send PMs in this forum? I tried sending a PM and it's stuck in the Outbox. Thank for the answer.
  13. I will answer to this very question alone if you don't mind. I am using (and others too) the GA-H97N Wifi mobo (rev1.0) without any issues. The only apparent difference with the (rev. 1.1) is that the 2nd NIC is an Atheros instead of a Realtek on the (rev. 1.1). You need to check if this is an issue or not but personally I don't think so. The only issue I have experienced with my GA-H97N Wifi is the built in wifi card. The problem is actually not the card itself it's just that Xpenology has not included the wifi drivers yet, thus DSM is not recognising the wifi card but if I am not wrong they are working on it. Example of that mobo being used: http://jarvis.pimpmyrig.com
  14. Most of what you would do on a genuine Synology product works on an Xpenology. What you need to keep in mind is that you might have to get your hands dirty once in a while if things don't work for one reason or another, because, you said it: 1) there is no official support (yet there is this community), 2) some hardware you might want to throw in the mix will not be recognised simply because DSM is designed to work with the very specific hardware that Synology sells. This being said, It has worked for me without any major issues. Here is just the 2 issues (from my very personal experience) you might have: - Quickconnect: this is an online service and it can only work if you have a valid/genuine MAC/Serial pair. Not a big deal though. - Built in Wifi cards: they might not be recognised depending on the hardware, but I believe the dev team is working on including wifi drivers soon. I have the GA-H97N WIFI mobo. This is as stated above applicable to basically all the hardware you might want to use now or down the road. So it's always good to first have a look at the forum see if other people have used a specific hardware before buying it. That's basically it. All in all, if I have bought a genuine 3615XS it would have cost me WAY more for basically little in return compared to my bare metal setup. On top of it I have the possibility to upgrade the hardware or even repurpose the server into something else if need be. Last but not least, and I think it will never be said enough in this forum: DO NOT USE Xpenology on a production unit. As much as it is stable if you take basic precautions, Xpenology is only meant for home and non essential usage and mostly geeking around.
  15. I also do not have a 1151 socket mobo but a 1150 socket mobo: GA-H97N-WIFI (rev. 1.0). It works pretty well for the exception of the built in wifi that is not recognised by DSM yet. The dev team is working to add the drivers, hopefully soon. Hope this helps as well.
  16. +1 Is this being done by someone or not yet?
  17. This is a safe power off button. It turns off the xpenology the proper way. Without this your toddler could turn off your server the hard way if he pressed the button long enough and that would be much worse with possible irreversible consequences.
  18. For the moment we are focus on fixing bugs like iscsi, Time Backup, VirtualBox, Poweroff by button... Next we will focus on wifi and dvb support Good to know it's on track. I would hate to cash out for a good wifi dongle when my mobo already has one built in wifi card. If there is anything I could to do to help speed up the process, please let me know. Cheers and thanks.
  19. The purpose is as described here above but that implies that you would then be abusing Synology's services. In fact I am not so sure it is even possible anymore.
  20. Hello, Drivers to make the built in wifi card of the GA-H97N-WIFI motherboard work possible? http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... d=4992&dl=
  21. Old post but anyways, I'll put my 2 cents. I think that anything that calls Synology's push services will not work on Xpenology as you would need to have a valid Serial Number coupled with a corresponding MAC number, in other words a genuine Synology NAS.
