  1. Hello. I have put it here: https://mab.to/Dw7ZuB2ss
  2. I updated from 5.2-5967 update 2 to update 3 via control panel and everything seems to be working fine. I am running a bare metal build based on the ASRock C2550D4I. I am using XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5967.1. Thanks again to everyone here.
  3. I appreciate the hot swap feature a lot. I started my NAS with five 4TB drives and expanded to eight 8TB drives. The hot swap bays made life much simpler for me. Also, as a DS380 owner, I have not experienced any issues with cooling.
  4. In the following link, user Kanedo has some great info on getting 10GbE going on XPEnology. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12792&hilit=10gbe#p57212 I followed his lead and got everything up and running for under $100. I connect directly from my Mac to my NAS.
  5. My pleasure. Be sure to check the "Hardware Supported List" thread when making your component selections.
  6. The Silverstone DS380 and Norco ITX-S8 cases have hot swap bay and fits your requirement for 8 drives.
  7. Yes, DSM can do RAID 6. Yes, single disks. I'm not sure if it's true of all instances, but I have two completely different motherboards running XPE and both pass SMART status fine.
  8. The DSM handles the RAID functionality so I don't see any need for RAID card.
  9. Thanks for the hard work. We truly appreciate it.
  10. How much real world benefits can having two SSD cache provide? Wouldn't you still be bottlenecked by the gigabit ethernet which tops out at approx 110MB/s?
  11. Can't see images on Safari in OS X 10.11.3.
  12. Ah!! I see. Thank you very much for the info.
  13. Yes, I am extremely happy with the performance I am seeing. It's truly amazing. Does OS X have native support for the Intel X520-DA2? If not, where do you find the drivers? I had to search on several of the manufacturers' websites before I found that SolarFlare offered OS X drivers.
  14. Hello, Kandeo. Thank you very much for this info!!! I followed your directions and have 10GbE running on my XPEnology build. I used a SolarFlare 10GbE card in my Mac Pro which I purchased for about $55. I am getting approx 300MB/s writes and 800MB/s reads over AFP. My array consists of eight Seagate 8TB archive drives in SHR2. Thanks again for posting this valuable info!!
  15. Bare metal means to run XPEnology directly rather than going through virtualization. Look at the hardware I use in my signature. I have this system running 24/7 with Plex. I stream to my Apple TV 4 with absolutely no problems. I have never tried Own Cloud or security cameras.
  16. I have an 8 drive SHR2 array in my XPEnology build and I have swapped out six of them to upgrade to higher capacity drives. It took a long time but I never experienced any problems or lost any data.
  17. If you will be using XPEnology, there's no need for hardware RAID. The Synology OS handles the RAID.
  18. Yes, that's exactly how I've been doing it and it has worked fine.
  19. Here is the procedure I use to update the boot loader on the USB flash drive: 1. SSH to the NAS. 2. type in the following commands: [spoiler=]wget m https://download.xpenology.fr/XPEnology ... 5592.2.img m (use appropriate link based on version of boot loader) find you usbdrive with fdisk -l dd if=XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.1.img of=/dev/sdg1 (sdg1 should be replaced with whatever your USB flash drive ID is) 3. Update the Synology DSM from your web browser. 4. Reboot. I learned this procedure from: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9835 I use this method because I do not have a monitor or keyboard connected to my NAS. I use the Terminal app in OS X to do it all.
  20. My pleasure. Glad I was able to help. I have a feeling you will be making the transition sooner rather than later. lol Side note: I told my uncle about this and he eventually made the leap from unRAID to XPEnology as well. He loves it.
  21. I think the problem is isolated to your set up. I've seen quite a few reports of people with 12 or more drives running.
  22. Just out of curiosity... What type of hardware were you originally running XPEnology on that caused this?
  23. The USB flash drive should have nothing to do with this. It just acts as a boot loader. The Synology OS is stored on the hard drives of your volume.
  24. When you first create your volume, selecting the default will result in an SHR array. This is a bit of a gray area among the users. While technically possible, some feel it immoral and has the potential of jeopardizing future development of XPEnology. But much of the same functionality can be replicated simply by using a DDNS service such as no-ip.com or duckdns.org. In regards to add/removing drives, when I started off, I used whatever spare drives I could find laying around. I then migrated data from my old unRAID and a Drobo. Along the way, I pulled drives from those systems and used them to replace smaller drives in my XPEnology build. I went through this six times within a month and a half. Everything went as expected and I didn't lose any data.
