  1. don’t know the answer to you main question. I’ve not seen that happen on my setup (docker). However you should be able to run both package centre and docker Plex together. Just expose a different port I.e 32401 mapped to the 32400 port in the container . (Bridge networking) in docker
  2. I didn't have any issues in test with ESXi 6.7 , but I did roll back the scsi-hpvsa driver , having read elsewhere about ESxi in general on the G8 Have a read here https://www.johandraaisma.nl/fix-vmware-esxi-6-slow-disk-performance-on-hp-b120i-controller/ and here https://communities.vmware.com/t5/ESXi-Discussions/Very-slow-acces-to-datastores-on-HP-MIcroserver-Gen8-Can-t-edit/td-p/2276368 Iv'e since installed an LSI card, for greater flexibility , (and faster SATA ports) , only the first 2 sata ports on the MS G8 are 6Gbs Sata III , the others are 3gbs , for what it is worth ..
  3. No. Apologies if I was not clear (it’s been mentioned many times ds918 will not work on g8 micro server, cpu gen too old) iv’e been trying 918 on a newer machine in Esxi. baremetal g8 is 7.0.1 ds3615xs
  4. Just my Feedback , Id been testing redpill DS918 using Esxi on a new machine for HW transcoding . But out of curiosty did an install on my Gen8 Microserver, as bare metal . (This usually runs 6.2.3/Juns 1.03b for most my services/dockers and VM's, plus a VDSM7.0 as I was testing photos app(face rec works) ) Spec : - Xeon E3-1265L V2 16GB H220/LSI HBA Card IT mode - I disabled this as I don't believe there to be Sas Support as yet - Used onboard b120i in ACHI mode , used spare disks Onboard Broadcom Dual NIC/HP Ethernet 1Gb 2-port 332i - Both Working (I use different VLANS on each) APC UPS connected via USB - Working So far not had any reboots. installed Docker , already disabled IPV6 , about to start copying some of my docker configs across . (check if I can replicate what others are seeing)
  5. I just Fixed this by changing the virtual com port from Com 2 to Com 1 in the Bios
  6. @WiteWulf Out of interest are you passing any additional Parameters for the onboard b120i sata controller SataIdxMap , SataPortMap etc ? Just going to try using the onboard controller in ACHI mode , as HBA support doesn't seem quite there yet . Do we still need to pass SataIdxMap=0C00 to pass the USB boot to position 13 , etc ?
  7. OK I was not aware that was possible , I thought you had to use the 918+ platform to support HW transcoding (which doesn't support the CPU in the Gen8 )
  8. I'm interested in your use case for wanting Nvidia drivers ? what are you intending to use it for ? a VM in VMM ?
  9. USB UPS should be good if in compatibility list (or I hope they are) I've not tested mine yet
  10. If your using using Esxi you just use e1000e as the NIC type , no need to change the network card or use other drivers . That's the advantage of running as VM
  11. G8 Microserver 16GB E3-1265L V2 its a HP H220 card flashed IT mode, believe the 9207-8i with 2308 chipset . (MPT2SAS) My 8 Disks are SATA not SAS , but on the HBA card (4xHDD, 4xSSD) I'll move a test disk on to the onboard Sata to check (in ACHI mode) Good news is the rd.qz you supplied me, allow the onboard NIC to work . Thank You ! are the options in my log been ignored normal ?
  12. Wonder if it is this line which seems like it is been ignored along with other parameters [ 2.335521] <redpill/cmdline_delegate.c:401> Param #10: |console=ttyS0,115200n8| [ 2.337920] <redpill/cmdline_delegate.c:296> Option "console=ttyS0,115200n8" not recognized - ignoring
  13. @pocopico Thank you for your rd.gz with the .ko's for the Gen8 onboard NIC .. on bare metal this boots, and I am able to see the machine on the network and reach the Web assistant . At this moment it is not seeing my HDD , (on a HBA card flashed IT ) not sure if I need to modify the DiskIdxMap values or SataPortMap (I did with Juns) However I am seeing these and other args / parameters not been recognised and been ignored as per the serial output below (Iv'e removed my real Mac and Serial) is anybody else seeing this ? 14. @WiteWulf I know you use the serial port emulator on ILO 4 . I have my GEN8 now booting with the onboard NIC and discoverable , but my serial log stop at : [ 2.758884] <redpill/uart_swapper.c:427> ======= OUTPUT ON THIS PORT WILL STOP AND CONTINUE ON ANOTHER ONE (swapping ttyS1 & ttyS0) ======= [ 2.762939] <redpill/uart_swapper.c:429> ### LAST MESSAGE BEFORE SWAP ON "OLD" PORT ttyS1<=>ttyS0 Are you doing something to resolve this ?
  15. it’s the “keep expanding if possible” option that appears to be set by default which was causing it. It extracted and then further extracted automatically, sorted it by using windows , but good to have found the cause and the option to disable that.
  16. OK if I extract on windows it appears as a file. so I think I'm good. previously I was using a Mac
  17. Fantastic I will try this out .. I tried adding myself but I'm not sure I am unpacking / repacking rd.gz correctly . When I Extract your file you have just posted rd.gz appears as a folder , can I just copy that and its contents , or does it need packing and how? . I am booting Legacy, I don't believe G8 supports EFI, (My Gen8 has a HBA card, is the mptsas, mpt3sas enough , or do I need to add a parameter ? ) I am using serial port via the ilo to monitor . The below was the output of my attempt , I don't think it was seeing rd.gz after me modifying it . [ 2.575384] RAMDISK: Couldn't find valid RAM disk image starting at 0. 18. *edit it was @pocopico I was meant to quote not Witewulf. apologies It was Bromolow , I found them thank you (search not working for tg3, but tg3.ko works ) So I need to insmod libphy.ko and tg3.ko . do you know can I unpack rd.qz with 7z in windows (after mounting first partition of the .img file) then add the modules . then add insmod lines (any issue with waiting for libphy.ko to load first ) repack rd.qz with 7z
  19. @Rikk I'm assuming you have an intel Nic installed and not using onboard ? , I could not see the modules for the onboard card .
  20. @pocopico Did you. mention you had a compiled tg3.ko , was looking to test baremetal on g8 microserver , I believe this is needed for the standard broadcom nic . Any help would be great .
  21. Running docker image ls , followed by removing the old image id's (docker image rm XXXXXX ) fixed this issue for me
  22. I have been using @haydibe redpill-tool-chain_x86_64_v0.7.2.zip to build images successfully . however today when I try and run ./redpill_tool_chain.sh auto bromolow-7.0.1-42214 , it errors at the following , am I doing something wrong ? create mode 100644 shim/storage/virtio_storage_shim.h Pulled latest commits. 23. I didn’t think this was possible due to 918+ not supporting Satadom boot. Is that not the case ?
  24. @WiteWulf Did you happen to try the same with the on onboard NIC ? when I get home in a few days I will try on mine if not. (Will try with a ‘standard’ build. And also with kg3.ko added.
