Update for v5 on XenServer

Problem with hard disks persists. During installation of DSM -> Error 38. Tried 4458, 3827, booting with/without gnoboot_me... Still the same

[ 0.000000] Linux version 3.2.40 (root@gnoboot) (gcc version 4.7.3 20130102 (prerelease) (crosstool-NG 1.18.0) ) #5 SMP Mon Mar 10 20:37:38 CST 2014

Lol, you're using the wrong zImage. That's five-zero kernel which doesn't have the XEN disk patch.

Works like a charm on HP N54L with gnoboot 10.3 NATIVE!

Not testet much so far, but by now I'm pretty happy with it. Just got the device today

and directly fired up the 10.3 image on it following this guide: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2545#p13838

Here are a few Screenshots (german ui), setup is the N54L with 5 disks (4 internal, 1 in a 5 1/4" noname Sata-Frame) and the USB Stick on the internal Port.

actually it is not necessary to make mirror.

although you may not be able to down it, you can make a copy to your google drive

then download it from your own google drive.

I just made a copy to my own google drive and it immediately synced to my computer in a second.

i don't have time recently to test it on the real machine yet.

Just ask for safety.

I'm currently running DSM4.3, when i decided to upgrade to 5.0, should i boot from gnoboot-alpha and upgrade online,

or boot from gnoboot.me and upgrade from syno assistant??

Sorry if it was already asked but does it work with HP N40L ?

Thanks.

Yes. Its one of my current test rigs.

Great, good news, thanks for your reply !

And do you know If I can upgrade from 4.3 to 5.0 with gnoboot without data lost ?

Can I use this tutorial with my N40L : viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2545 ?

Many thanks !

okey  (misunderstood your gdisk files..), anyway I just downloaded last one just now:

uname -a

Linux DiskStation 3.2.40 #1 SMP Sat Mat 15 13:16:17 CST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux synology_bromlow_3612xs

DSM 5.0 4458 sucesfully installed on XenServer 6.2SP1 using gnoboot-alpha10.3-zImage !

  • Using 32MB primary boot disk, and 8GB second system disk, 2 VCPU, 512MB RAM
  • Using HVM (Other install media, during Xen VM creation).
  • Disabled viridian `xe vm-param-set uuid=... platform:viridian=false` (Makes sure virt-what coretly recognizes Xen)
  • gnoBoot image installed using `dd if=gnoboot-alpha-vfat.img of=/dev/sda1` (Using Debian Live distro)
  • Modified `/boot/grub/menu_alpha.lst` and `/boot/grub/menu_me.lst` added `vga=0x318 sn=B3JN00...`
  • DSM 5.0 4458 installed after booting with grub menu item gnoboot.me –> install/upgrade/downgrade 4458

Thank you gnoBoot! Thank you very much!

Later this weekend, maybe next week I will try to install xe-guest-utilities, and hopefuly I will give paravirtualization another shot  (If suceeded I will post guide/code here)

Hi everyone!

Once again, many thanks Gnoboot for your work!

I managed to upgrade to the DSM 5.0 4458 with the gnoboot 10.3vfat image on a HP N54L. Before, I had a native install with DSM 4.3 3827.

So far it works pretty well. No loss of data. The only things is that i don't see my shared folders in the File station, eventhough settings are still the same as i had on the previous DSM and i can access my shared files... I guess i'll have to go through the settings again.

As soon as i find time, i'll try an install with esxi 5.1. Will let you know how it goes.

Once again thank you very much for your work all of you

Edit: problem solved. It was a user right issue.
