@the OP This may seem like a silly question but are you installing java in response to the notification that pops up when you open the file explorer? If you are then the java that is out of data is related to your browser afaik. It's required if you want access to the local drives in the file browser tree. If you don't need access to the local drives it's not an issue. Having said that it's always good to keep java up to date. I don't run dsm5 so I can't comment on the disk space issue sorry.

After I added SYNOLOGY1 ip in my hosts file, I can access to SYNOLOGY1 thrue \\SYNOLOGY1 in win explorer The main problem still remains, other multimedia devices do not see the server in the network group, so playback is not possible.

Sometimes my NAS takes a while to appear in the Network workgroup list. What happens if you access the NAS directly ? i.e. in an explorer window address bar, type \\DiskStation (or whatever your NAS share name is)

Hi, Just installed XPEnology_DS3612xs_3810 and was going to move files between shared folders in DSM. What happens is as soon as I try to drag a file or folder, my computer starts to download it instead. This is using Chrome. Just tried in Internet Explorer and that worked flawless. Tried to search but the searchengine removes words that´s "too common". Is there a solution for this, accept using IE? Best regards //SB

Ok. I try 1gain and with the right click i selected connect. I could have then put the new firmware. All is fine. I just have a pb on windows. I can no more access my data by double clicking on the diskstation in the explorer. I m oboige to enter \\ip Did i do something wrong ?

If you copy files on the same nas using windows explorer it doesn't transfer the data to your local machine. It only advises the server to do the copy task. If you move files on the server it does that almost instantly. OK, if you stay on the same share. If speed is your main criteria and you got to move a lot of data the fastest way to go is to connect through ssh and work on the nas.

Moving files through explorer is slow, windows copy the files to via the local drive. Rightclicking worked. Why is this bug? Didn´t have these problems on my old Synology 212. The whole window freeze as soon as I just hold down left mouse button. And this is only in Google Chrome.

Right click on the file(s) and select "move" rather than drag and drop ? Or open up the NAS in your windows "Network" explorer and use windows to move the files (this is what I do). You do need to enable windows networking on the NAS to do this obviously.

Hi, I see the same problem. Sometimes the NAS appears in the Windows Network list, other times it doesn't. If it's not listed then I just enter \\DiskStation into a windows explorer toolbar to see the NAS contents, in your case it would be \\servidor

Hello everyone, Excited to try this product, however I am having the following problem which does not let me even get me going. When I burn the .IMG file to a USB drive (tried 4 different ones) on my Lenovo T430 Windows 7x64 , USBv3 Tried to boot up on 2 desktops (AMD Opteron 170 2ghz & Intel Q6600 2.4ghz quad core) But both systems do NOT see the USB drive. One of those 2 desktops above is currently running FreeNAS and boots from a similar USB drive. One thing that might also help diagnose is that when I burn the .IMG file to the USB, the USB is no longer visible in Windows Explorer. I can eject it, but no longer can I see the files & folders. I thought this was by design. Is this a reported issue and maybe another thread has a solution? Thanks.

Ok - I apologies if this is a stupid question, and I can't believe I don't already know this, but.... I have connected an external USB drive to my N54L, which then shows up as a share folder "usbshare1" when I navigate the N54L from my Windows laptop across the network. If I use my Windows laptop to COPY files from the external USB drive (connected to the N54L) TO another shared folder (on the N54L) how is the data actually transferred? Is the process intelligent enough to realise that the data is already on the correct machine, or will it route Off the external drive (connected to the N54L), onto the network connection, via wireless to my laptop, which will then redirect it back across the wireless, back through the network to the N54L and onto its shared folder? The whole point of me connecting the USB drive directly to the server was to remove the 'slow' wireless link from the equation, but if the above routing happens then I've gained nothing (in fact may have made it worse as it now goes from server to laptop, and back again!). I presume if I log into the web interface and use File Station to do the copying then it will do it directly, but I was unsure if I could do it by using Explorer on the laptop (which is somewhat more user friendly). you say 60mb/s windows transfer..... but is that native? eg explorer?..... or using some other program like teracopy? teracopy btw is know to slow the heck out of your transfers. .

Thanks for your suggestion, I am also a totally amateur. Test disk can recognize this is a Diskstation patition. But there is no patition table. I tried to write the patition table and plug into DSM, but still the data cannot be recognized. I guess I need to use software like UFS explorer data recovery to recover the data, is that right? Or testdisk can do something more?

Morning gents Massive thanks to the community for getting Syno on a ProLiant. I bought a DS212j for testing purposes, fell in love with the OS so got the N54L on the promise of slapping DSM on. Currently running 4.1 but about to put on 4.2 from https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing Anyway, my question is not about how to put it on or unlock hardware features but instead the cloud based programs within. I'd like to run DS Audio on my android phone but it looks like I need to register the Syno device in order to get a login ID. Is there away around this or is this the limitation of putting DSM on a Proliant? If it's not possible, anyone recommend any alternative? I use Google Play at the moment but it lacks a "view by folder" category and I'm more of an explorer user rather than a library. Finding tracks via artists/albums is more of a struggle than by folder. Thanks peeps.

Another successful installation! jukolaut said he was surprised at how many people downloaded his modified patch ... I'm now curious as to how many XPEnology ESXi installations are out there? With the next source release, it might be time to put some real effort into it and update the idiot's guide, and make a few installation helpers. Thinking about it ... This looks suspiciously like the standard networking problems: Otherwise, it could be the Synology Setup you have: If checking all these things doesn't help, and you've eliminated ALL software problems (trust me - odds are you have some crap installed - keep looking there first!) then throw out and replace the network cards, switches and cables ... one of them will be bad. And if ALL else fails, and you don't want to listen to me and don't do anything I wrote above - try using Teracopy. This copies files using a buffered approach and bypasses Explorer during the copy process. Give it a go - it might not solve it, but it will point you in another direction. IT guy ... ... trust me.

Hello together, do you know if this Version is working on a N54l. I just bought one and tried to install, but it always complains that the image (*.pat) is damaged. I tried a few different ones. Do i need a modified bios? I also have the problem, if i want to change the mac, i transfer the image to the usb stick and downloaded the ext2fs driver. then i opened the explorer and clicked on the stick. But on the stick i can't find a file called vender. Best regards
