About Me

  1. Hi Thomas, thanks for sharing your experience! I beg the difference to your statement. Each motherboard behaved differently than the others. My Supermicro PDSME motherboard will have BIOS corruption on every reboot, regardless of you have made any settings on DSM.

  3. Hi Wolverine, I can feel your frustration, Because, when I first try on my Supermicro PDSME motherboard, any setting change in DSM 5.0, resulted a BIOS reset upon reboot the system. OK, here is my only solution that I can advise the following: 1) Buy a 2nd hand Intel DQ35JOE or DQ35JO motherboard, someone recommended to me last year and is working 100% no Bios reset when rebooting. 2) Buy a Gigabyte motherboard with DUAL Bios feature- when 1 get overwritten, the spare 1 will take over. (Not sure it is good solution because, the memory that store the BIOS has limited writes) 3) If you are not planning to play with the POWER Schedule, that is what time does your XPEnologized PC requires to boot up and shut down, then go for the ASUS motherboards running the old socket 775 CPUs. If you change any setting in DSM 5.0, it won't cause the BIOS to reset when rebooting on the next time, provided that you are not going to use POWER Schedule
  5. But the USB 3.0 Ports of my SuperMicro X10SLH-F don't work. I don't want to buy an extra Controller for USB 3.0 if i have some on my board.... Chipset is Intel C220
  6. I am eyeing this motherboard with 14 sata /sas ports: SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SL7-F-O (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4680) Newegg has good price on it right now.

  8. I figured it would be cool to have a thread where we can show off our custom NAS / Servers. My current system consists of: Motherboard: Intel DQ77KB CPU: Intel i7 3770T RAM: 16GB SODIMM HBA: LSI 9201-8i (IT mode) Storage: 60GB mSATA (ESXI Install and Datastore) Storage: 4 x 3GB WD REDS Storage: 1 x 4GB Samsung (set as eSATA for backups) Storage: Supermicro CSE-M35TQB SAS/SATA Mobile Rack - 5 Bay OS: ESXI 5.5 VM1: Ubuntu 64bit VM2: Synology DSM 5.0 I never got around to completing the custom case. Recently I wanted to play around with ESXI 6 (it's in beta), but lacked another system ideal for virtualization. So I started researching new parts for another system. If all goes well I'll make it my new main NAS / Server and test stuff on my old one. Here's what on it's way now: Motherboard: Asrock E3C224D4I-14S http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=E3C224D4I-14S CPU: Intel Xeon Processor E3-1275L v3 RAM: 16GB Super Talent DDR3-1600 8GB/512Mx8 ECC Micron Chip Very Low Profile Server Memory HBA: onboard LSI 2308 Storage: Intel FUP8X35HSDK Drive Enclosure - 8 X 3.5" Bays OS: ESXI 6.0 I thought about buying one of those U-NAS cases, but figured I'd have more fun building my own. I figured building something around this shouldn't be too hard: I am going to try to turn my Lian Li Q25 case into this, if it fits. The dimensions, based on 6 x 5.25 bays, will just kinda fit within the Q25's dimensions. I won't know for sure until the bay comes:

  11. Hi all, I´m trying to do the same setup with HA on 2 Supermicro boards Atom onboard, same hardware on both servers. Did you get it to work finally? Please share your results. Did the Mac address change and vendor solve the problem? Thanks in advance. Regards.
  13. Hi All Iv installed the latest nanoboot ( http://xpenology.pety.me/ ) and DSM 5.0-4493 x64 . Seem to be having a few problems with network connection. Managed to get all 16 Drives to show on the system. The problem is every time i transfer large files to the system i lose network connection. I have to reboot by pressing the power button on the server. Server Specs : 16 Supermicro chasis Supermicro x9scm-f motherboard Network Specs : 1gb network, wired cat5 I have confirmed that the drives are 100% with SMART. i get no errors in error logs. Driving me up the wall Any ideas...
  14. Bare metal Mobo:Supermicro X10SLM-F CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1275v3 RAM: 4GB ECC DDR3 UDIMM SAS Card: LSI 9211-8i in IT mode Nanoboot 5.0.3.1 DSM 5.0-4493 update 7 All 6 onboard SATA work All 8 LSI SAS ports work Both onboard Intel network ports work with WOL Pretty much everything works.
  15. We had a customer come into our software dev shop with a non-functional Netgear 4200 which they wanted us to pull their information from. Long story short it was a loose cable inside the case and after managing to pull their data off we asked them what they wanted to do with the unit. Whatever you like they said having already replaced it. The problem with the 4200 is that: 1. It's running a very old version of Netgear's RAIDiator OS which is seriously yucko 2. It only supports a max disk size of 2TB (considering it cost £5k circa 2011 this is a little disappointing) 3. Erm, sure there's more but after staring aghast at the kludgy web interface for managing the NAS we thought the status quo simply wouldn't do Which is all a damn shame since the NAS is real purty and the build quality puts our real Synology RS2212+ boxes to shame: Peeking inside shows a (custom?) Supermicro X7SB3 with 14 SATA ports (more on that later). First step was to remove this little widget: To install DSM onto a new USB we needed the following software: 1. NanoBoot-5.0.3.1-fat.img 2. Win32DiskImager-0.9.5-binary.zip 3. DSM_DS3612xs_4493.pat (Full unmodified version from Synology's site) I won't bother reiterating the install steps, it's pretty standard stuff, nothing different. The only tweak I had to make was to the synoinfo.conf file to ensure that DSM knows there are 14 ports on the motherboard since ports 1-6 are on the ICH9 controller with ports 7-14 on the LSI 1068E controller: source: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1361&start=230#p9849 /etc/synoinfo.conf change: esataportcfg="0xff000" to: esataportcfg="0x00000" change (12): internalportcfg="0xfff" to (14): internalportcfg="0x3fff" Do the same to /etc.defaults/synoinfo.conf And you're done! Guessing those Netgear 3200 and 4200 boxes I see on ebay from time to time going for £300 odd are going to get a little more expensive now...
  17. If anyone of forum user owns a HP N54L system, please do a password locking in the bios and see whether it will solve the resetting bios problem during booting in POST, as I don't own one myself. I tried on my very 1st system, the Supermicro PDSME motherboard with passwork locking in bios but it didn't prevent the bios resetting happening.
  19. for me i only have the issue when i enable the auto start feature with the auto shutdown i do not get this issue on both of my systems Supermicro X8SIL-F and HPML310 G8v1
  20. This is perfect timing, I have a 4200 V2 that I've been looking for frontview alternatives. THe V2 has an X8SI6-NI015 board which is basically a Supermicro X8SI6-F with integrated LSI SAS 2008. Can you upload the image you're using so I can slap it on mine?
  21. Great work guys, but one more question, i had Supermicro X10SLH with additional SATA card. Xpenology virtualised on ESXi, add card passed thru to xpenology, worked fine, now i changed board for Supermicro X10SL7-F with onboard LSI 2308 (flashed to IT), passed thru, it boots up and first welcome install screen appears...it looks that it found drives connected, but it cant access them, no config found, also cant install to those drives connected to 2308, xpenology restarts with some errors, when i connect drives back to add card (stupid cheap SATA card) it founds config and boots normally...:-/ Btw, when i disconnect drives attached to 2308 reboot, install screen appears and tells me that no drives found...So it knows about LSI...but... Any ideas?
  22. Glad you enjoyed it. Think emboldened by this my next project might be to use our Supermicro 16x SATA chassis and install this stuff on it. FreeNAS is our NAS of choice but there are things DSM is simply far better at (Time Machine, Plex, etc.)
  23. @She, May be you try this method suggested LINKS listed below by a forum user MikeRoxx, this guy is using a 3rd party unofficial Syno package in dealing with Advance Power Management which may related to Power Schedule. It did not work for me, because my motherboard hardware is not HP N45L. As mine is Supermicro PDSME motherboard. Read the links below, I hope you can find out a workaround solution to your problem. http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=10#p19402 http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=20#p19460 http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3289&start=20#p19585
  24. I could use these too, have some 8500's and 9500S's 12 port that it would be nice to use. Is it possible to just build the modules and add them to a nanoboot image? (I need x86, not 64-bit, using an older supermicro 16 drive case with the older intel xeon 686's. I'd replace the mobo if I have to, but I'd rather not, since I have a slew of the 3ware raid cards... I'm a freebsd guy, but I think I could work my way through the linux kernel buildling stuff.
  25. i'm thinking to get the SUPERMICRO MBD-A1SRi-2758F-O. It's a bit faster than the C2750, and it uses the SoC's quad Gigabit ethernet. Does anyone now if intel I354 driver is included in Nanoboot?
