Hopefully this helps someone: I installed on ESXi6. Converted the vmdk so i could add it as sata on a virtual controller. I pass-through the onboard of an HP ml310e gen8 which has 6 Ports. After much testing and trying to understand the following works: "SataPortMap": "16", "DiskIdxMap": "1600" 16 = 1 Drive on the virtual sata controller which holds the tinycore, 6 Drives on the passed through onboard controller (AHCI Mode) 1600 = index 16 for the boot device since its not wanted/needed, 00 to have the first Drive of the passed through controller shown as the first drive in Synology thanks for everyone else for their contributions :-)

same problem here (if i understand it correctly) always have to press ESC and choose the virtual USB Stick to boot from. Doesn't take boot orders form .conf
-
i have the exact same problem on 2 machines (one with vm disks, one with rdm's), i have a third machine that is not having this problem at all (using another port than 5000/5001) is it a time bomb or just a bug?

so i upgraded a 5.2 install to 6.0 on a microserver gen8 took the legacybootloader from p10, swapped in the ramdisk from p1 loader and changed the pid/vid accordingly. Install went fine and the server rebooted. The problem now is that its sitting at "booting the kernel" which is fine since it won't output more, but there is nothing available on the network. (Used find.synology, the assistant and an ip-scanner) Do i have to put in something else for the MAC adresses and SN in the grub.conf ? From what i understood this was only needed if you wanted to use any online service with Synology. Any help would be most appreciated! thank you again for your work! EDIT: after 15 Minutes it suddenly showed up on the synology assistant. - weird - Is it safe to Upgrade to "6.0.2-8451 Update2" ?

once you setup the second HD and setup a Datafolder on it you can remove the premade small HD.

i was able to use 'install' to install DSM6 baremetal on a HP Microserver Gen8, then i tried to boot with the 'run' option and it wouldnt find the box anymore. I know it was said that only 1000e NIC was supported, but since the 'install' mode supports network, is there a way to get it to work in 'run' mode aswell?
-
koroziv: for some reason it has a problem with boot vmdk, same strange issue as with the premade HD. it wont export.
-
little update: fired up the VM on VMWare Fusion (guess it would work with vmware workstation the same way), created another virtual HD, created filesystem, removed the premade HD from the download, box still boots up. now transfered to my esxi, it boots up and works just fine

figured out how to get it running on esxi6 you need to use the webclient, the boot.vmdk has to be defined as IDE only the webclient can add a sata controller, after i did that i created the machine, booted with the boot.vmdk -> can't get the premade dsm 6.vmdk running on ESXI - is there a way to put the iso on a usb stick like it used to work and than use that on a N36L or Microserver Gen8? Other problem is that when using the "install" option from the .iso and installing the pat, after reboot using the "run", it will want to migrate the HD every time i boot. Tried this a few times (1st time with install, than with run) without success. Is there anything else to do to make it run after installing?

@haydibe: running on esxi 6? cant get it to boot from the boot.vmdk
-
thanks for sharing your find oktisme my problem is that the boot vmdk is not recognized as a valid HD under ESXi 6.0. is there a way to make that boot hd myself with the iso? thanks again!

blinddark: doesn't seem to work either.

Upgrade from 5.2 doesn't seem to work. Tried various upgrade paths. Any chance of info on how you did that?
-
yes, useless tutorial, disks not working. For me it's working when unmounting disks from CL or after an upgrade from DSM 5.2 where volumes were already created. umount from CL when its not created? please explain thank you
-
All the packages is here: https://www.synology.com/en-us/dsm/6.0beta/ReleaseNote unless i am blind i cannot find the docker packages.
-
If you can't create a volume w/o it dismounting, it's not working properly. yes, useless tutorial, disks not working.
-
so you mean 6.0 beta works with current xpenology bootloader aside from no mounting volumes? 8) Edit: i am getting up to the point where you create a disk, but it says that "the connection failed, check your network connection" (roughly translated) ESX 5.5U2
-
this (btrfs) is basicly the one thing that would make xpenology perfect at this stage has there been any comments anywhere else anyone knows of about the current state of btrfs?
-
thanks alot benji30! thats a really helpful description. i wonder if there is some kind of way around this or possible to automaticly boot it via script.
-
thanks for the info on manual mounting, that is extremly interesting benji30: any chance you could provide us with a few commandline examples to create the btrfs volume please? (thank you!!)

this is the ENGLISH main forum, try english and you get an answer.

i tinkered around further and still wasnt able to create a BTRFS volume on xpenology. There must be something not obviously missing.
