You have to use serial to see console because this is Synology's unmodified kernel. In ESXi add serial named pipe. Set as server near side and vm far side. Setup another vm. Windows or Linux and add serial near side client, far side vm. Use putty, minicom, hyperterminal and you will have profit. Both vm's must exist on same host. To edit boot. Well, I kind of eliminated this problem by added an additional 2 more drives (one of which acts as a spare). Its behaving now. Noted on the point of different volumes on different HBA controllers. Make good sense too

On one of the volumes on my xpenology 5.2 (its a VM on esxi), 1 hard drive keeps getting "unallocated". I go into manage, put it back it, and it does its repair. After a few hours, that same drive gets kick out again. what can be the cause? and how do I remedy it? These 6 drives are 6 TB HGST in hybrid raid mode much thanks for any help

HI Trantor, I have checked that my infiniband drivers are loaded after issuing "lsmod | grep mlx", but still cannot see them under network interface of the control panel. How do I actually utilise the infiniband connection if I cannot see/activate it? thanks

Hi Trantor, It was my onboard intel drivers for the classic NIC, not the mellanox I managed to revert back to the default line.. but it simply would not recognise the PCI Intel 2 port NIC card (which it used to). Is there a way to restart the recognition of all network ports again? This is even after i restarted the xpenology box a few times. Also almost all my drives in the volumes have the "system partition error" warning. How do I get rid of them? Did not expect so much grief from simply trying to enable 40GB in the xpenology..but I will persevere.

Help, am desperate. I cannot get my standard network ports enabled again after the amendments made to the 2 rc files

Hi Trantor I must have done something wrong because now I cannot even get my ethernet network ports going. I changed the 2 rc files as stated only the mlx_en and mlx_ib showed up when I did the "lsmod | grep mlx " command. How do I rectify this? anyone has a spare rc files to help me?

OH dear, I have exactly the same T3500 Dell, and using it as an ESXI server with intention to install xpenology as a VM. Only difference is I have a Dell H700 Raid adapter which I intend to passthrough for the VM, and a Perc 6i as well instead of using the onboard Intel. Will feedback if I get it going. I hear that using onboard HBA can be flaky

NEOID, Thank you very much for your helpful guide. It sure helped me setup DSM as a VM. I enabled a USB adapter and a USB device (a samsung 200GB drive) after I started the VM. But it does not seem to appear. Do I have to restart the entire VM to see it in DSM? A Much thanks
