Guest Posted June 15, 2020 Share #302 Posted June 15, 2020 Hi, This is just to say a big thank you to @luchuma and @flyride for providing the great tutorial and the Fixsynoboot !! This allowed me to move my EsXi VMs with RDMs from 6.1 to 6.2 up to 6.2.3 without a problem. Your help is greatly appreciated ! cyberphoy Posted June 16, 2020 Share #303 Posted June 16, 2020 Just acquired a Dell R720 and an R710 and will be installing ESXI on one of them. With this tutorial being older and the fixsynoboot issue, would this tutorial still be valid to follow?

markbxp Posted June 25, 2020 Share #305 Posted June 25, 2020 Hi I've recently done an install with bootloader 1.04 DSM3615xs_25426. ESXi 6.7 with passthrough 8 port SATA controller. System is mostly working great and I found the tutorial easy to follow. I've applied the FixSynoboot.sh patch. However I don't see any information under 'Info Centre - > General' the page is blank. Anyone have any ideas for a fix?

I found a post with another fellow who found it working mysteriously later. I finally just did a migration install to reinstall DSM and that fixed it. Sort of a sledgehammer to pound a nail; I'm sure it was something simple but I couldn't figure it out.

PopaTim Posted June 28, 2020 Share #308 Posted June 28, 2020 I gather that the OP is not updated regularly But from what I've read it still works with ESXI 7 (free). I am unclear on what the lasted version of DSM I can use is. I am new to ESXI and Xpenology so I hope you don't mind newbie questions. Thank you. chtugha Posted August 7, 2020 Share #311 Posted August 7, 2020 (edited) Hi guys, I'm successfully running several Xpenology VMs very stable since years in a productive environment. Never had any issues so far. But now I'm biting my teeth out trying to install a new VM on ESXI 6.7. Everything is working fine - up to the "DSM-6.2.3-25426 update 2". FixSynoboot.sh is of course installed. There is nothing fancy on this new vm: 3516xs with 1.03b loader. 2 SATA Controllers, one for synoboot.vmdk, and one for the system volume. The update fails every time telling me the file might be damaged. Any help would be appreciated. Edit: well.. I found the solution: The provided script was formatted wrong. You had to run sed -i -e 's/\r$//' FixSynoboot.sh under /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ to fix the script. Edited August 7, 2020 by chtugha
GizmoPower Posted August 28, 2020 Share #312 Posted August 28, 2020 In the tutorial i feel there is missing something between here: Quote save file, dismount all and exit. ??????? ESXi part: Upload synoboot.vmdk and synoboot.img to esxi (in one folder) I have NO experience with ESXI. I have followed the tut untill here, but now confused. I have done this several times with my other server that runs 6.2.2, just not with ESXI What to do. Where do I install ESXI and run it? How do I include the 2 files? Wich folder. Hernan R Posted September 19, 2020 Share #314 Posted September 19, 2020 I tried on esxi 7 and had some issues, basically it was booting correctly but complaining about no available hard drives. Only solution was to add a second SATA controller and connect additional drives there, worked like a charm.

beren Posted October 29, 2020 Share #318 Posted October 29, 2020 i installed on my intel nuc esxi 6.7 before summer, using DSM_DS3617xs_23739.pat and OP steps without problems, added only one storage disk. now i needed to move the storage drive in another location and finally i messed up, so removed the storage drive and made another one (i did not touch the VM or the synoboot drive). Now i have to install dsm again but i am forced to install DSM_DS3617xs_25426 (says 23739 is too old) when i do the setup, but it always fails at 60% saying the file is broken (which is not). I have the pat downloaded on pc, and i did not modify grub or lan settings since first installation.

luchuma Posted October 29, 2020 Author Share #321 Posted October 29, 2020 (edited) no. after installation changes are made to synoboot img on the datastore. just use freshone. or you can change to 3615xs if you want to use old disk with data on it Edited October 29, 2020 by luchuma
