    Big thanks for the reply!

But no, I can't ping the diskstation after reboot in normal mode. Only if I choose "reinstall" mode in loader menu. So this shouldn't be the issue right?
Or do I need to check this although?

When I had this problem (network down), I could log in to the DSM desktop but all the packages stopped - including ssh. So it doesn't sound like the problem to me.

But you DO need to delete the folder anyway or this problem will happen to you as soon as you get a system up.

  2. I hope that you have your data secure somewhere. I am assuming that as you were prepared to format the old disk, that you do.

If you don't :( then given that you failed to format it, then this might get data off the disk:

The old disk isn't formatted with something Windows likes so you need to use something like diskpart under windows  to delete the partitions on the old disk if you want to reuse it.

So. Take all the disks out and boot the box with just the USB. If you can find the install page, then good. Otherwise you overwrote the loader and you need to recreate it :(

Put one new disk in. If you can boot,  start DSM. Hopefully a 6.2.3 system will come up. If not, you need to delete the partitions off the disk and start the install process again.

Once up and running again, create a basic storage pool on the new disc.

You can now copy your data onto the system.

Once done, you can put the two other disks in and expand the array to create a RAID5 array. This will take some time and put that old disk under some stress.

  3. Nice if a gen 8 user would stop by!

Sorry I think I misunderstood where you were.

    First a couple of links:

    https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/13333-tutorialreference-6x-loaders-and-platforms/

    and

    https://xpenology.com/forum/topic/7973-tutorial-installmigrate-dsm-52-to-61x-juns-loader/

The second talks about 6.1 but the method applies to 6.2. It is also older than the tool @Badgerpointed to you. (Like me!)

I think that you have done this:

    run the tool

    selected 1.03b DS3615xs or DS3617xs

add the vid and pid for your USB stick (you are using that not an internal SD card reader?)

    Serial and mac.

    Insert and boot.

Having got as far as the "find.synology" message you are trying to find it on the network?

  4. DSM gets installed on the disks so you will need at least one installed.

You will also need to wipe the system partition of any disk you have tried if you are going for reinstall. But before you do all that, Just to check, which version of the loader did you use and what version of the .pat file.

There is something in the back of my mind about the gen8 but I can't recall it.

I don't know whether this post might help.

must a new installation be made or can you do a migration?

I am still testing on a N54L. I have created a 6.2.3 system on a spare disk and then migrated it to 7.0.1. There were a number of packages that wouldn't upgrade but that is nothing to do with Xpenology.

Everything else seemed to work. But I haven't run it for long.

And yes. When/if I do it, I will have a full backup and I will keep that up to date in case I have to fall back later.

  6. Short answers:

    Yes

    None

    Yes but No.

Long answers: Synology changed their driver model after 6.1.7 and then put it back again in 6.2.3.  So after 6.1.7, the onboard nic stopped working.

People were installing the extra card to make those intermediate releases work. And that's why there are many posts about using it.

But for 6.2.3, you don't need it.

6.2.3 is the latest release that the jun loader supports. It does not work for 6.2.4 or 7.

There has been a new loader 'redpill' under development and it is officially "in test" and a few people are having success with it and quite  few are not. At the moment it does require some developer skills to build and run. There are some loooong threads in the Developer Section. But my advice is to run with what you have, sit tight and wait.

  7. I am going to link here for reference:

    and

Read your post again. I assume that DSM is running on box A under virtualbox and you wish to migrate to box B baremetal?

    1) With the system running as normal in virtualbox, use find.synology.com to find the box. Just to eliminate any other network oddity.

    2) create a 1.02b DS3615xs loader according to the instructions, boot it and see if the box appears on the network.

this loader has the widest compatibility and <should> work. We can go from there.

  8. I haven't looked at the tool. I assume it allows you to create the loader on USB and then it downloads the .pat file from Synology for you to use when you run the install. In that case, you can download the .pat file you have linked to your PC and use that instead when prompted during the install process.

  9. You need to install 6.2.3-25426 which is the main release. The others are minor updates. Before 6.2.4 was released, then control panel would have offered the minor updates after you installed the main release. I'm not sure whether we can get that done now (i.e it may only offer 6.2.4) but we can worry about that later. It won't change any of the functionality.

  10. Yes. 6.1.7 and 6.2.3 can use the internal card. The releases in between needed an additional card.

Oh and while I think about it. When you get the system up and running :-) go to control panel and turn automatic updates off. 6.2.4 does NOT work with the current loader.
