  1. Dear Gnoboot, I found in the alpha 5, the 05-media.conf did not include MEDIA_MOD="${MEDIA_MOD} ${CXUSB_MEDIA}" And I am not sure if it is required. But when I add it manually, it disappeared in next reboot. Grateful if you could indicate if it is required. Thanks.
  2. Did you load the drivers in /etc/rc.local? Thanks for your reply. I have added the driver modules into the rc.local #!/bin/sh # Optware setup [ -x /etc/rc.optware ] && /etc/rc.optware start source /etc/rc.subr source /.gnoboot/modules.d/03-wifi.conf source /.gnoboot/modules.d/05-media.conf SYNOLoadModules $WIFI_MOD SYNOLoadModules $MEDIA_MOD SYNOLoadModules $VMWARE exit 0 The lsmod showing the following:- usbcore 158988 32 dvb_usb_nova_t_usb2,dvb_usb_technisat_usb2,dvb_usb_pctv452e,dvb_usb_cinergyT2,ttusb_dec,pvrusb2,em28xx_dvb,em28xx_alsa,em28xx,hdpvr,dvb_ttusb_budget,dvb_usb,snd_usb_audio,snd_usbmidi_lib,zd1211rw,rtl8187,rtl8192cu,rtl_usb,mwifiex_usb,libertas_tf_usb,ar5523,carl9170,ath9k_htc,usbhid,usblp,usb_storage,uhci_hcd,etxhci_hcd,xhci_hcd,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd But still there is no dvb dongle exist in video station. When I unplug the stick, dmesg shows [ 512.953063] usb 1-2.1: USB disconnect, device number 5 When I plug in the stick, dmesg shows [ 629.320965] usb 1-2.1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd After plug in the stick, the information under DSM show the following:- USB Stick - Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc. Thanks.
  3. ok.. my wrong.. the openssl is opt version. the system version is fixed under /usr/syno/bin/openssl.
  4. I checked the version is 0.9.8v. This version is not even affected by the vulnerability. Is this how Synology 'fix' the issue? fallback to old unaffected version?
  5. interestingly, I have applied the fix which supposed to fix the openssl bug. After upgrade and restart, when I type openssl version.. it shows:- openssl version OpenSSL 0.9.8v 19 Apr 2012
  6. I've just applied the DSM 5 update 2 which has this vulnerability fixed. No problem so far.
  7. BTW, I have tried MagicPro PCTV Dual USB adaptor on my Xpenology box with 10.5 alpha, the dongle is not recognized by video station.
  8. Yes, I forgot to say that I was in 4.3 with Trantor release, I updated to gnoboot 10.5 Thanks To me, I need to use gnoboot.me to start migration from 4.3 to 10.5. And all thirdparty app have to be reinstalled. File server retained.
  9. I've got the xpe box running under ESXi and everything is fine except the busybox sometimes not responding. when I ssh via putty, it prompt me for user name and password. After I enter my password, the prompt just stop there. I have tired a few more ssh clients on other platform as well with same behavior. But it doesnt happen all the time. I can sometimes has my box run for 10 or more days before the problem appear. Sometimes it happens in 2 days. If it goes wrong like this, I have to reboot the synology box to get my ssh connection back. Most interestingly, I can connect to SCP for file management via WINSCP, and I can issue basic command like ls and cat inside WINSCP. I end up issuing "reboot" to get my synology work again. Grateful if you have any hint on the issue, thanks.

  11. I would like to test the upgrade path to DSM5 without the fear of losing data. All the important data would be backup, but there is still a lots of other data that I cannot afford a 2nd copy. My current set up is a DSM4.3 run under ESXi 5.5 and working well. HDDs are now under independent mode with Presistent option. Is it safe to test the upgrade path by modifiy the HDD settings to non-Presistent so that no change should be made to my data hdd? Then I would replace the boot img and test the process. but I am not sure if the restart of the DSM after 5.0 upgrade would revert the HDD content.

  13. I noticed that the first page said upgrade from 4.x to 5.x will lost data partition. Are there any means to retain the data partition? I dont have extra space to backup all data. Thanks.

  15. If I already have 4.3 under esxi 5.5 Does it mean I can just change my boot vmdk to this one. And I can boot the vm and update the pat beta and done? I am very afraid that the upgrade would corrupt the existing 4.3. I have no backup plan at the moment. Thanks,
  16. the link is still valid when I check just now.
  17. I am now using RDM with SMARTd to fetch the health status. But I am not sure if it is working well. As it sometimes stops emailing me the report.
  18. as I replied in other post. ex-fat is a no go. And I dont think HFS+ is supported either. Try some other format. I did fix mine by removing all partition of my USB disk and format it using the DSM. No crash any more.
  19. re-format your HDD and try again. My 4TB is behaving the same before. And ... ex-fat seems to be the root cause.
  20. You Should NOT use the quick connect as they are provide FOR synology product only. DO NOT use them or you go buy the real synology. If people keeps using their server resources with xpenology, people buying real synology will be affected and synology will certainly react. Please use your own DDNS service.
  21. Yes, you are legal to buy something off the store. No, you are not legal to use the DScam on non-synology device. Yes, the license you bought would be accepted by xpenology dsm.
  22. Since you almost dont know everything, are you sure you read at least some of the useful post here? in ESXi, all NIC was pre-generated a random MAC address, you can change it in vcenter / vsphere client. For vendor file, it was stored in boot partition. You have to mount the file system in the vmdk from a linux.
  23. the disk itself contains the system partition. If you have another DSM copy with system installed, the system partition may not match and thus require you to reinstall the system (initialize) But I dont know how to migrate as I start off from 4.3
