brantje Posted March 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2016 DISCLAIMER! I’ll take no responsibility for any loss of data or any other problem caused by following this tutorial. Reinstall DSM (eg 5.2-5644) without losing the data on Volume: 01. Enable SSH if it`s not & connect to SYNOLOGY 02. Open & edit the file \etc.defaults\VERSION 03. Exchange the data with one of previous ver.: majorversion="5" minorversion="2" buildphase="0" buildnumber="5592" builddate="2012/12/05" 04. Save & Exit 05. Restart Synology 06. Launch Synology Assistant 07. Click 'Search' 08. If you've done everything correctly you'll see a new 'DiskStation' has been found. 09. Disconnect the USB flash drive from the computer for this next step 10. Right-click the new 'DiskStation' and choose 'Install' 11. Browse and select the same version (5.2-5644.pat) which U already running 12. Choose a Name for the DiskStation, a new default admin password and IP configuration 13. After installation is complete the DiskStation will reboot automatically. 14. Power it OFF manually now 15. Isert the same USB Flash drive (5.2-5644.img) back into PC 16. Power on PC & DSM will boot normally 17. In Synology Assistant click 'Search' again 18. Depending on the name and network config you chose during installation you will see now a DiskStation has been found with the NAME you chose. thadeus Posted March 24, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2016 How do I get ssh access if it won't allow me to use my username and password, also admin and blank pass is not working?
chumly Posted March 24, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2016 Thanks brantje for the info. Unfortunately for me I didn't have SSH originally enabled. I'm luckily back now(sort of), the only thing I seem to have lost are all my custom settings. Here's what I did: DSM6 chose fresh install - let this complete. Once installed setup server with same name and user Enabled SSH Followed your steps for changing version file - the steps past this unfortunately did not work for me so I did the following: Within DSM update and Restore I then chose the original pat file and installed this - worked fine after above completed installed update 5 pat file All good from now, all files intact, just need to make my customized changed now Thanks again for pointing us in the right direction I feel relieved that the files are all still in place. brantje Posted March 25, 2016 Author Share #7 Posted March 25, 2016 E212 means: For some reason the file you are writing to cannot be created or overwritten. The reason could be that you do not have permission to write in the directory or the file name is not valid. Posted via Xpenology.us

After Launch the Synology Web Assist page for the Migration 5. Select Keep the data file for migrate 6. Manual Select the DSM 5.2-5644.PAT file. Which if you can remember installation of DSM Version you are using previously (my previous install under DSM 5.2-5644). 7.After complete install. 8.Enter the previous host name / username / password. 9.You will found the storage is appearing mount and the data file still there. 10. Make sure backup your file to external HDD. Reason the after install DSM 6.0-7321 you HDD will become not mounted to DSM 6.0-7321. Disadvantage Area Of DSM 6.0-7321 -------------------------------------------------- 1. HDD will become not mounted into newest system (if you formatted the HDD cannot downgrade back to DSM 5.2-5644) 2. Quick Connect can't use will prompt the system failed to perform the requested operation, there is an unknown error. (Register) 3. Cannot format the HDD or SCSI or Hot Spare For more information downgrade DSM 6.0-7321 to DSM 5.2-5644 Edited March 28, 2016 by Guest
