Yes, I used the same USB port and tried the rear too.

Okay when you say "my Hp Gen 8 don't boot", exactly what are you seeing on your machine? Is it actually not booting from the USB stick and trying to PXE boot from the NIC (or whatever the next device is in your boot order), or is it booting from the USB stick into the linux kernel and you're just not seeing any output to screen after this output?:

    Loading Linux...
    Loading initramfs...
    Starting kernel with USB boot
    early console in decompress_kernel

Offtopic, there were some questions why someone would want 10 Gbps networking...well Digi ISP (RCA-RDS) Romania announced new subscriptions for 10 and 2.5 GBps. 10 Gbps costs 10.11 EUR/11.72 USD(50 RON) and 2.5 Gbps costs 9.10 EUR/10.55 USD (45 RON). That is for FTTH , fiber to the home, no need for business subscription. So...I guess 10 Gbps is the new standard, or ar least 2.5 Gbps.

    https://www.digi.ro/anunturi/digi-lanseaza-internetul-de-10-gbps-fiberlink-10-g-cel-mai-rapid-internet-din-romania-29465

We need to push 10 Gbps cards compatibility.

Pardon my language, but fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck 😮

    10 Euros a month for 10Gb broadband 🤯

I tried to compile 7.0, 7.0.1, 6.2.4, and visibly the .img file is well created (with DS3615xs).

Once copied with Rufus, my Hp Gen 8 don't boot while Jun's loader works fine on 6.2.3

Someone had to works Redpill wit HP Gen 8 ?

This has been covered a few times in this thread. You need to mark the first partition as "active" using something like fdisk. The Gen8 BIOS is a bit weird and needs this to be able to boot from USB sticks.

Hi there, can you grab the serial console output from a crash before you roll take 7.0.1 off that Gen10? If you're not sure how, have a search of the forum for accessing the virtual serial port via iLO on the HP hardware, it's a common question.

Didn't they remove iLO from Gen10 and added as a separate purchase in Gen10+?

Yeah, additional hardware required on Gen10. That sucks!

    https://www.servethehome.com/hpe-proliant-microserver-gen10-plus-review-this-is-super/3/

So the iLO is included in the machine, but you need to buy this miniature NIC to enable it and have OOB monitoring and management *and* that only gets you basic functionality. There's no remote media or remote console with the essentials license 🙄

Since moving to the latest redpill code (3474d9b) I'm finding my system less stable than it was before with respect to docker containers. My influxdb container would crash the system every time I started it, but the others I had were typically stable and non-problematic. I'm now seeing immediate kernel panics when starting a mysql container that previously didn't cause any problems.

I've gone back to a slightly older build (021ed51), and mysqld (operating as a database backend for librenms) starts and runs without problems.

    Expand

This is sadly coincidental, as we didn't touch locks there :( We're still debugging that. The most annoying thing is that it actually doesn't crash very reliably on our gen 8s. It does but rarely.

FWIW, I had to try much harder to crash my system on a clean install when freshly created containers like influxdb and MySQL had no actual databases. But starting up containers where the databases had a lot of existing data in them crashed much more quickly. I’m happy to share one of my containers+data with you if that would be helpful (the influxdb one has nothing sensitive in it, just my electricity and gas utility use for the last few years 😀). My system crashes 100% of the time within seconds of starting this container.

  6. @ThorGroup hey guys, sorry to '@' you on this, I know you're busy people, but I wonder if you'd been able to look at the kernel panic problems on DS3615xs? My system is now stable, but only with no docker containers running and Plex Media Server stopped. Starting PMS or a docker container results in a kernel panic anywhere between a few seconds or two to three minutes later. I'm happy to carry out any testing you suggest and feedback diagnostic output.

I will try to grab logs about the crash.

About the MAC adresses, i have only declared two of them for exemple at the end d8 and d9 but when booting on the system the second one is right (d9) but the first one become from d8 to 00

Yeah, I had this problem. I’d declared the interfaces in the wrong order in the config.json file. Swap them around and rebuild the image and it should work.

The top port on the NC360T is LAN1 in DSM and will be the MAC address ending in d8 for you, declare this as mac1 in the config.json. The lower port will be LAN2 and have the MAC address ending in d9, declare this as mac2 in the config.json.

    *edit*

Also, have you disabled the onboard NIC in the BIOS?

    Hi guys,

I have successfully installed the 42214 and today the last one 42218 but i have a problem.

When i try to make a research in the config panel my server reboot.

Does anyone have the same issue ? (I have docker with only pihole running and saw the reported issues related to docker)

Also for VMM on my Gen 8 in my config file i put my real mac adresse of my NC360T adapter but on LAN 1 it's not the right one in the settings. So VMM do not work.

Did i made a mistake when making my config file ?

DS3615xs image is known to be unstable on some setups (https://github.com/RedPill-TTG/redpill-lkm/issues/21)

If you can capture the output of kernel panic from iLO’s vsp when it crashes it could be helpful.

For the NC360T you need to declare both interfaces in your config json file, even if you’re only using one. If the MAC addresses are swapped around, just swap them

in your json file and rebuild.

On 7.0.1.42214 & 42218 i had instant crash when i was searching with universal search (synoelasticd)

Interestingly, I've run a re-index of media folders (I use the Indexing Service to drive a UPnP music service via Media Service) and that's using postgresql.

Odd that they'd use postgresql for the built-in media indexing and elasticsearch for the Universal Search 🤔

I've disabled docker on my system now, but it's kernel panicking every few minutes as soon as Plex Media Server starts doing anything. Gonna have to try and build a 7.0.1-42218 image with that older redpill-lkm commit as this is completely unusable now.

    Okay, I'm now running a bit of a Frankenstein's monster :) :

    1. TTG's redpill-lkm master 021ed51
    2. jumkey's redpill-load dev 880c76b
    3. haydibe's script 0.7.4 (because 'redpill-lkm master 021ed51' won't compile with 0.11 due to missing build targets re. dev/prod/test)
    4. DSM 7.0.1-42218

Docker is still unstable when the system is under load: I need to wait a few minutes after boot to even start my containers that don't usually crash, but my influxdb container and data is still an instant crash. But at least on this set up it's not crashing when Plex Media Server is busy.

NB. with respect to instability under load, the docker crashes seem more likely to occur after a few reboots, when the server comes back up and starts disk scrubbing. My "stable" containers are more likely to crash the system if launched while disk scrubbing is running. This is purely a "feeling" on my part, though, and not backed up by empirical evidence.

  11. FWIW, this release (7.0.1-42218 with redpill-lkm 3474d9b) is very unstable for me. It's kernel panicking for Plex Media Server (which is essentially a big database) as well as my docker containers. I don't know if that's because of the move to 7.0.1-42218, or because I've also moved to 3474d9b again. I previously tried 3474d9b and found it very unstable on my system, so to went back to 021ed51, which crashed much less often.

I am using E3-1265L CPU that can load DS918+ loader, but failed to find IP address, not sure the problem is from CPU or Lan, but there is no issue about DS3615xs loader.

    I assume you're using a E3-1265L V3, then. It's important to make the distinction.

Your choice of CPU won't affect your NIC acquiring a DHCP lease. It's most likely a problem with missing NIC drivers on that image. As some others have suggested, try booting the machine off a small linux USB image like kali and see what NIC drivers get loaded. Once you've identified the necessary drivers you can work on compiling them and adding them to an image for 918+

And now the Info-Center is filled and not empty anymore. I can see 2 cores and 2,2 GHz cpu speed, which could be the real data (I'm not sure, if I already changed the old celeron cpu to a core2duo 2,2 GHz, but I think I did). The cpu type is shown as i3-4130 which isn't correct (but for DS3615xs I think), but I can live with that 😀

Info Center always shows what it thinks the CPU *should* be, based not the image in use, not the actual CPU. It shows the correct RAM installed, though.

    Hi,

Same logs on my baremetal gen10 plus, using the 3615xs and 7.0.1. My cpu is xeon e-2224.

FYI always crashing When i try to log in.

    I rollback to 6.2.3.
