Hello everyone, I'm continuing to do the functionality tests with respect to the functions I need from the DSM, today I reinstalled for the umpteenth time the DSM vers. 918+ on virtual machine; I configured 6 virtual disks on virtualbox (to see if he saw them all, the 918 would be a 4 disk) of 5Gb each and once the machine started and all the installation operations were done I went to configure the volume and the pool; In SHR it does not make me do it (which in an installation the same it had made me do) then if I do the volume in RAID5 (6 5Gb disks in RAID5) at the end it gives me an available volume of 2Gb. Hello everyone, for about a couple of months I discovered this forum and the possibility of running a DSM operating system on a hardware or virtual machine not provided directly by the manufacturer, I started to install some machines on virtual machines to make functional tests according to what I need, I worked on it a bit but for now everything I need seems to work correctly, having to replace also my synology which is no longer able to provide me with the performance I need and I would have also decided to build one, in the forum there are many posts about it scattered here and there (I don't think I've read them all) my dilemma is to get the right hardware compatible with the software and as I said before there are so many posts that in the end I don't understand anything; in the end I wanted to build a nas at the level of the new DS1821 + (or higher with the same money, the processor that uses the 1821+ is already more than a few years old if I understand it) with 8/10 HHD, 2 NVMe, 32/64 gb of RAM and possibly 2 rj45 for link aggregation; usually I also manage volumes in SHR much more comfortable and versatile (which from what I have understood and tried can only do the 918+ version, the xs series does not seem to me) so I think I should install the 104b boot loader (already tried in virtual machine, even if it sees me only 7 disks, I don't know why 7). On the market there are a lot of motherboards and processors that although of the same series differ in the abbreviations for characteristics, functions etc. and I would not be wrong, for motherboard I had seen those of the 450 and 550 series (I would like to take one that supports ECC memories) as a processor I would like to stay on the Ryzen 7 3700x series range, the sata inputs could be obtained with a PCIe 8 slot / 10 inputs, the same for the network card, a little bit of graphics hardware just to be able to configure it at the start then everything is managed via browser from other PCs, then there would be the specific motherboards for servers and the xeon series processors but here the thing is complicates even more because my knowledge is even less. I must also pay attention to consumption as the machine must be on 24 hours a day. I believe that in this furum many, rightly, have been able to make a nas server with salvaged material from other parts, but I do not have this possibility, and before doing the shopping I would like to be on the safe side. There would also be the possibility of installing another operating system, such as proxmox or other and then running DSM in a virtual way, or having all the services I need directly from that operating system there, I don't know what the best solution is. Hi Able, thanks for the answer, just last night after days of attempts they managed to work the DDNS through the docker 80x86 container (as indicated by flyride) and its registration with cloudflare, I had already tried with the indications from Polanskiman, at first sight not it doesn't seem very difficult the description is simple but it doesn't work for me; I just tried with the variations that you indicated to me but nothing, there is probably a small detail that escapes me (it also happened with 80x86 that I had to work on it for a week just because I didn't know cloudflare and I didn't know that from different tokens. ....), however you give access via DDNS I solved it at least in part it is clear that I would like to do it from DNS without using docker (which I think is better) but by the time I will work on it let's see if I can solve it . Yes, the motherboard should be an Intel Frostburg DG33FBC (4Gb RAM) DSM 5.2 runs correctly, on the other hand it also runs in my Synology DS1010 + (the features should be more or less the same), however I noticed just now that there is a problem that I had already found in the DSM 6.02 and 6.2.3 versions that I installed for test in virtual machine but I thought it was precisely because I am in virtual mode instead I find it even now that I have installed it from an empty, clean PC, and that is I can not register DDNS, gives me unknown error, what can it be ??? Hello everyone, after days of testing and trying again today I managed to install (with Luchuma instructions) version 6.2 (on virtualbox) of the DSM, I then updated the DSM to version 6.2.3 and everything went correctly, the only thing I've seen for now is that it doesn't make me create a disk volume, the storage pool does but not the volume; I put 3 discs in raid 5 (for testing), what problem can there be ???? thanks

Ciao a tutti, ho provato ad installare il sistema su virtualbox seguendo quel paio di tutorial e video che si trovano in rete, ma non riesco a farlo funzionare, si blocca alla schermata dos dopo aver scelto l'opzione da caricare. bohhhhh ho provato allora ad installarlo su un pc vecchiotto che avevo in soffitta a x32 ma, se non ho capito male, tutti gli eseguibili che si trovano di expenology sono solo per pc a x64, per caso ne esistono x32???? lo so che dalla versione 6 il DSM dovrebbe girare nei sistemi x64 ma puo darsi che qualcuno con qualche artificio sia riuscito ad installarlo anche su pc x32. grazie
