  1. Hey guys, please check my repo on github, it's the same kernel as nanoboot use. https://github.com/liwei/xpenology-3.x It is not very active, is it?
  2. shteve, i have an iPhone 5 but possibly some wrong settings in the plex server. Because I got 100% cpu usage on the nas if I used the plex HT system on a laptop connected to LAN. fjf, thanks for the link! I'll have a look at it! I don't find it very noisy at idle speeds.. But it does make a LOT of noise when on full speed. We'll see how it goes when the summer returns! Also, I tried a usb3 mobile harddisk and it worked very good! I cant tell you how fast it was but I copied some games and that went a lot faster then usb2!
  3. Make a proper backup of your files and config before you try
  4. Restoring 8tb from crashplan could take multiple weeks. i would not reccomend doing this. Even if you have a fast link (100/100) to the internet, it will not go faster then 5MB/Sec. It sounds like it is a good time to upgrade your nas! Maybe buy 2 bigger disks, start a new shr, migrate from the current nas to your xpenology, format the disks in the synology and expand the xpenology with the empty disks from the synology.
  5. I received my Microserver Gen 8 yesterday, I just put in the usb stick in the onboard USB slot, put in the hard drives in the same order and booted the machine. everything seems to be working just awesome. I still have to test the usb3 connectors to see if they work and give good speeds. In other words, very happy about this purchase! Just one quick question, and I hope no one minds me asking, is there such a thing as an iLO4 advanced keygen? using remote administration is not needed that often but it is awesome and could come in handy when updating the software and I don't want to attach a monitor . edit: I didn't post this to brag or anything. I just wanted to let you know that the system works in case you want to upgrade your N36L, N40L or N54L microserver. It uses more power but its a lot faster. I can watch a full hd (sin city) from my iphone using plex. This was undoable on my N36L.
  6. I have had something simular. What I did was, I unplugged the drive, formatted it on another computer, plugged in the empty drive and added this drive to the pool. It started to recalculate and distribute all the files and the filesystem is working again. I use the SHR-1 'filesystem'.
  7. I do not understand why you don't choose the X64 image to write to your stick. The Atom D525 has a x64 instructionset. Also, why are you choosing 4482 and not 4493? I updated a old 4.2 nas to 5.0 4493 update 4 within 30 minutes on a HP Microserver. What I did was, I went to and http://www.xpenology.nl/boot-images/ select the Nanoboot-5.0.3.2 DSM 5.0-4493 X64 IMG and write that to a USB stick. I boot the nas, select the option to upgrade/install (2nd choice) and let it boot. The machine will still boot to DSM 4.2 but when I scan with the synology assistant I can see that the status is migrateable. I open the web interface of the DSM 4.2 and select the option to migrate, I upload the Pat file found on http://www.xpenology.nl/xpenology-software/ (main install) and let it do its magic. When it reboots it is still doing stuff, when you are done you upload the update 4 file and you are done! (For more detailed instructions, visit the website and use the translate button) Edit: I see now, I have misread your point. I had this to, a couple of weeks ago. I just copied all my harddrive info to a new disk and formatted all my disks to start again.
  8. I did a successful conversion from 4.2 tot nanoboot 5.0. That took me about 20 minutes. The advantage of upgrading to 5.0 is that there are a lot of guides which are recent. Upgrade guides from 4.2 to 4.3 maybe outdated and are likely to take only a small amount of less time to update. I would strongly recommend upgrading to DSM 5.0-4493 Update 4.
  9. I bought this motherboard and I would like to know if I can easily put the stick from my N36L with Nanoboot and my 4 diskdrives with DSM 5 in SHR-1 into this board and everything would work as it did before. Anyone experience with this?
  10. Quick question, I run DSM5 on my HP N36L and I bought an Asrock Q1900-ITX motherboard. Can I just plugin the usb stick and harddrives into that board and migrate like that? Or is an reinstall recommended?
  11. Why are you spreading this FUD? Maybe it's just quiet. And for most people it is working fine with nanoboot.

  13. Hello, I attempted to update my DSM4 3202 installation to DSM5 4493. After some problems I Finally was able to migrate to the newer version. But my users, apps and settings are gone. Also, I do not see any drives shared. I see my 3 JBOD disks in the disk configuration and I can make new shares on them but if I make a share with the same name, it says it is in use. I used a guide from synology on how to recover files with ubuntu and that 'kind of'- works. I see the diskgroup, all my files are there! How can I make it so, that I will get my data and disks visible in DSM5? (I bought a 4Tb disk, I put it into the nas and used ubuntu to copy all the files to the disk. To NTFS is very slow (known issue, 9mb/sec) and then I copied everything to EXT4. But when I try to read anything from the disk, all the files are corrupt. Does anyone have an idea?
  14. Restore from backup... assuming you took a backup.. I was on 4.3 Beta2, went to DSM5 4598 Nanoboot last night without any issues. SMOOTH! 16TB so i was a little bit worried if it failed! I did not even know how to make a backup of the OS. I don't have a place to backup 6Tb of stuff to Edit: I just installed DSM 5 4493 with the latest Nanoboot found on synology.nl Finally the DSA showed me that the system was migrateable. It is starting fine but I can't find my drives and all my applications are lost. I see that the 3 harddrives are filled with data as they do not appear to be empty. But for some reason, I can't see them. Edit2: I wanted to create a new file share with the same name of my old config but I get a error stating that is already in use.. Is this the copyprotection of Synology?
  15. Today I tried to update from DSM4 3202 to DSM5 4588 and for some reason I cannot update with the synology assistent. If I use the NanoBoot 5.0.2.4 or GNOboot 10.5.7 stick the synology assistent says my configuration is lost. If I use the original stick, my DSM won't properly boot and shows up in the synology assistent with the wrong ip adres and stating that it is running DSM5 4482. But I can't get any data from the drives or shares. If I try to upload the original PAT file or a DSM4 (3211) I always get the error that the file is corruptes (error 13) Also, I see no red errors but with all the sticks I use to boot I get ' Startup daemons', date and time and "Excution error" I have a HP N36L What should I do now?
