  1. What would be the best option for me to go with for long term? Option 1 Plug in both drives, overwrite all data on each drive by creating a new vdi 3TB each (one for each drive). Install DSM, configure pool. Pool should see 2 disks. manually copy over data to xpenology. Pro - should be simple but time consuming and drives are virtual. Con - im overwriting and i might not need two Option 2 Some how set oracle to point to the physical drives as the data store pro no reinstall of dsm and all should come back up unharmed con- drives are not virtual and backing up the vm and its storage pool might be a pain
  2. my cmd should be ok, but... Im testing this on a 8gb thumbdrive before i do anything real here.
  3. Yes my current nas is backed up. I planned on doing a new install. My biggest challenge right now is how to attach the raw disk and use them. From what I gather if all goes well with that hookup then dsm should be detected along with my data intact. Being that I do have everything backed up, is there any real benefit in doing the raw disk (I am highly unfamiliar with this) vs creating 2 vdi drives 1 on each HDD and attaching them that way?
  4. would that be the same process to also move to a virtual machine? I want to move my physical to an oracle VM. Im having trouble understanding how to connect my 2 drives to point to the vdi
  5. @Kamele0N would you be so kind to link it? I did so much digging last night (more specifically looking for posts on this, this week) but came up empty handed. Im really excited for my new machine to arrive but trying to figure out how im going to migrate this is stressing me out. (I had an incident a while back where i nearly bricked my machine)
  6. Use StarWind V2V converter. Convert to VMDK file. Youll create your vdi (Dive to install dsm to) manually
  7. Aright so I did poke around but couldn’t find anything related to oracle. Clearly I need setup a test vdi and then I’ll prob take the 2 old HDD and plug them in. I guess my real question is, won’t I need to create a new vdi on the 2 new disks? If I do that then it’ll likely format the data. Also each drive is 3tb. Is the best way to do this to add 2 vdi of 3tb each and then Setup BRTFS once dsm is installed?
  8. Trying to get some help to figure out the best approach for this migration. I have 6.2.3 installed on hardware in my signature. Im moving to a Dell Precision 5820 . I plan on putting in my current drives into the new machine. Plan is to: Install new DSM on an Oracle VM (1.03b 3615xs. Same as current setup) Use existing drives and put them in the new T5820 What would be the best way to migrate the two? Do i just create the vm with a temp VDI and then once its up, add the 2 HDD to the computer and then point them to the VM in Oracle?
  9. perfect example. Rebooted the VM and now i have an IP i just cant do anything with it
  10. settings are the same Im getting a 169 in bridge mode. Tried bridging to both my adapters. The part thats just getting me upset is everytime i overcome one battle theres another waiting for me lol
  11. whats causing the Connection failed on the 918? think it needs extra.lmaz?
  12. Heres what I tried. New Machine. New oracle. Made 2 test VM's. 3615 and 918. 3615 i was able to get to the synology webpage to install DSM. (A partial win) 918 - in the finder it says connection failed but it has an ip address but also no way to install dsm. Any thoughts? after attempting to install what I’m assuming was the wrong version of dsm My 3615 box cannot be found in finder. I think for now ill be uninstalling all oracle on my primary machine and trying this all over again. Also to note i have a USB dock on my primary machine but im bridging the connection to the dock correctly (mac entered into oracle also)
  13. i think the issue is i need to use the 1.03b loader and 3615xs. The problem is the loader doesnt contain a vmdk file. only .img. Oracle wont accept .img as an acceptable file type. i tried to convert and i go it to load but cant find in with finder using bridge or nat and got the right mac from grub file. followed all the guides to a T and i still cant seem to find it anywhere. One thing that did stick out to me was im seeing this screen but nothing about booting the kernel. This was with 1.03b and 3615xs Totally lost. nothing seems to be working for me in oracle
  14. The MAC address in the post you linked is correct right? Meaning I don’t need to change in the grub menu only in oracle?
  15. waiting here to see if SA can find it Adapter is ok and so should both controllers be ok
  16. issue for me is VB isnt recognizing the file type of the loader. I think it needs vmdk and the loader downloads with disc image honestly so confused at this point i might be mixing the 2 up
  17. ok will give this a go a bit later. Assuming all goes well how would i get it to the latest. Looks like it installs with DSM 6.1
  18. and im guessing the install for oracle is much simpler?
  19. Your all paying for esxi? would it work if i create a vm on hyper v to install esxi and then create the synology inside the esxi? I was going to use this machine as my primary workstation hence i wanted to keep it on windows and not to install esxi on the host machine. Guess im just missing a couple pieces here to get this working in esxi.
  20. i guess my real question is being that hyper v needs an iso to boot, how would i go about that. Juans loader isnt in iso format. perhaps i can use a usb connected to the host I just dont know what that means for me regarding the vid/piv. id obviously prefer to use an iso and not have anything plugged into host machine.
  21. using loader XPEnoboot_DS3615xs_5.2-5644.5 on hyper-v. I got dsm installed at 6.0.2-8451. what is the latest i can go to? Im guessing i would do a manual install for the update so can i just go get the .pat file and manually do the upgrade?
  22. what sort of issues? I just installed hyper v on my laptop to test. I followed this video and was able to install 6.0.2-8451.
  23. Thanks. Just didn’t want to add another thing to be on top of every 60 days. Do you know if it’ll work on this hardware?
  24. Does anyone know if i can get xpenology as a VM running Hyper V on a Precision 5820. Im also open to esxi but if i recall it cost $$. Plan is to have this and a couple other v-machines on it
