@defizr personally I would upgrade to “the bay” bios, there are others but it’s the one I use.

@defizr Welcome to the forum, the N36 will run DSM 6.2.3 with jun’s 1.03b loader, you have to disable C1E support in the bios though. If you want to try DSM 7 have a look at the redpill tinycore loader thread in the developer discussion section, this does require a bit more advanced knowledge though.

@zahniif you’re having trouble booting tinycore make sure that the 3rd partition is set as active, I used mini partition wizard to do this.

@Badgerif you have an intel network card maybe try that.
-
@gquiringWhen I tried out tinycore on my HP Gen8 I had to make the 3rd partition active in order to get it to boot.

I would try jun's 1.03b loader DS3615xs DSM 6.2.3 Alternatively as you have quite a powerful CPU you may want to try running a virtual instance via ESXI or Proxmox

In order for anyone to help you we need to know what loader & which DSM version you’re trying to install
-
I’d stick with the custom bios.

Yes you can update to 6.2.3-25426 with Jun's 1.03b bootloader.

ok thanks for pointing this out.
But on an Xpenology there are not update operations so I'd expect this to run without
Yes it will run without but in the event of say a power cut it won’t reboot. Also there really isn’t a valid reason to remove it.

is it possible to put 6 3.5inch drives inside a Gen8 microserver because curently i have 6 drives inside an HP N54L (2 drives are inside the 5.25 slot) ?
No it isn’t, you can add 2.5” drives in the dvd space but only 4 3.5” drives.

Another option would be a HP Gen8 microserver.

Hi
i‘d like to build on a Gen8 Hp Server
My server is upgraded to XEON E3-1320v2
can i install the Imige for DS3617xs
or the Image for DS3615xs ??
thanks for your help
holger
You can install either, however most Gen8 users use the DS3615 image. If you're doing a clean install go with 6.2.3

That’s a good point & depending on where @thorgroup take the new red pill loader it may be possible, we’ll just have to wait & see.

You’re right VMM doesn’t work with AMD CPU’s, Docker does work very well however.
-
It’s not reached the beta stage yet so best to wait, have a read through the thread though by all means as it’s quite interesting.

@ct85msiyou can use osfmount to edit the image file.
-
@Quizzer16If you're planning to add a 5th HDD you'll need 5 1/4" - 3 1/2" drive brackets too.

If you're looking for a modded bios google "thebay bios", it's what I've always used on my N40 & N54's.
-
Synology's VMM doesn't work with AMD CPU's.
-
You should use the username & password you created when you installed DSM.

In order to help we need a bit more information like which loader & what DSM Version are you trying to install?
