@just4fun001 So, you are saying that it worked while using the Juniper, so the nic is compatible and functional.
Then, what did you do when removing the Juniper from your setup,
and how is your network layout when your NAS is *not* working?
While it was found/working, did you install DSM, or just connect to it?

@WeezyMike Let's see if I get this right (using some quick Google&Paste) if I'm "way off" someone feel free to jump in.
HBA = Host Bus Adapter= device that plugs into your computer's bus and allows it to talk to hard drives.
It may or may not provide RAID, acceleration, or other such features.
IR mode is in whatever raid formats the HBA supports.
Some allow you to present drives individually as JBODs or raid0 with one drive each, but if you are going to do that,
it makes more sense to flash to IT, since the firmware is smaller and more efficient (supposedly...)
IT mode stands for "initiator target". It presents each drive individually to the host.
This mode essentially disables the RAID functionality, and is usually used for JBOD / OS control (think XPEnology/FreeNAS/unRAID / etc) of the individual disks.
Usually, to change beween IR and IT mode, a new firmware has to be flashed to the HBA.

I have set the controller to HBA mode and confirmed
HBA mode, as in IR mode, not IT mode? That might be your problem.
Edit: what make/model is your card?

@vitos I have reported this thread, hoping it can be moved to the russian subsection.
Not only will the users there better understand your language and can help you,
but it will fit better, and reach more people when its not under the "Information and Feedback" section.

@vitos Да это вы, все остальные пишут на английском вне русского подфорума

I have a Gen8 with an E3-1265L
Out of curiosity, since I have been looking to further upgrade my G8, are you using the "non V2" version?
The E3-1265LV2 seems to be hard to find for a nice price.

Hi, and welcome to "the club" (I keep 5 G7 microservers running with XPE myself, and support a "few" others for friends/famly)
As you pointed out, backup is never a bad idea I keep on telling people to do so, but I'm not that good at it to do it myself.
We have a saying: real men don't do backups, but we cry a lot
Have you done the "Update 3" yet? It might help on the reliability issues.

@Benedict as far as I can tell, none of the listed devices are networkcards 🤔
If you do a "lspci | grep 0200" it should only return the devices with Class=0200 = NIC's.

What ?
It would be nice if you kept it in English, outside the Russian subforum👍

thus not presenting a full raid 5 setup
Just out of curiosity, did you set it up as HW raid?
Even if 1 drive had no power, DSM should have seen the other drives during install if set up as single drives (ACHI)🤔

Answer to B:
You can use: The A.R.M. (Automatic Ripping Machine) either on a standalone computer, or by using a docker container.

@esteban0506 My first guess would be in the "grub.cfg" on the bootloader device.

@siulman Then, I will give you a "lesson" that might help you the next time you want to use a MicroSD card in your G8 🤗
If you used that Windows(?) software to read out a VID/PID on a different computer than your HP G8 Microserver, you failed..
When using a MicroSD card to boot from a HP Gen8 Microserver you must use: VID 0x0424 - PID 0x4030
That is the internal card reader, (located on the USB bus).👍 It has been posted more than once here in the forum I think🤔
Using this VID/PID will "hide" the memorycard, and stop it from beeing mounted in DSM.
Edit:
BTW: as seen by this post from Omar, he also had some "funky problems" due to wrong/missing VID/PID on the MicroSD on his G8 setup.
-
Just a quick comment (I guess someone will correct me if I'm wrong )
Some SATA ports are using a multiplexer to support all the ports on the card, those are generally not supported.
If you need to use an extra card for your Sata ports, maybe a LSI based SAS HBA in IT-mode would be a better choice?
The example I linked to, will give you 16 ports, but you will need 4 SAS-SATA breakout cables.
You can also find 8 ports HBA's.

FYI: I have read the thread, and I know you sorted out your problems for now 👍
I'm just curious, as I have never had that problem myself with My G8, that the card mounts as an external drive.
So Im asking you, as 1 techie to another: what VID/PID where you able to "pre-extract" from the microSD?
btw: how do you "pre-extract" the VID/PID from the microSD?

because of using a microsd, I have now it displayed as an “external drive” in my system
What VID/PID did you use for your microSD ?

@skeifor Your welcome :-) you are not the first one with that experience ;-)

Yes,
but in what way did the network not work?
Did you get an IP from your DHCP server?
There is a known bug, when upgrading from 5.2, the folder: ".xpenoboot" will cause problems with many services.

@asheenlevrai Just a quick thought is the DS1812+ a victim of the Intel C2000 chip failure?
If so, it might be fixed with an added resistor.
To answer some of your Qs:
Yes, you should be able to move your drives, and do a "migration" to the selected XPEnology version.
Some of your apps *might* need to be reinstalled, but your data will be intact.
Just like on a real Syno, DSM will be installed on all drives, the USB is *just* used for the boot-process.

This is when you press the "Max" button?
Are you able to write a different size in the box?

As mentioned by others, some more info can help others to help you.
1 - What vnic are you using?
2 - Did you configure the mac adress in grub.cfg as the same mac adress in your VM?

Since the controller has 16 ports I can't specify that in the SataPortMap due to it only supporting one digit
I wonder, can 16 be represented by "F" ?

@Mburns You wait ... it has to be released, and you will need a real Synology, or a new bootloader.

@reziel84 You may want to install the "Storage Analyzer" to see what is "using" the space.
