Hi, i'll share with you my experience. on 11.11 (single day) i bought 2 new camera, i have yet 2 camera. I'll want to add the new camera to surveillance station... only 2 free, i must pay for the 2 other. but, i spend 2 days on it, and now i can register 4 camera, for free!!! first i have a Hp microserver gen8 baremetal(cpu G1610T with 8Gb of ram) dsm 6.1.7-15284 update 2 install synology virtual machine manager import a new vm with the attached file: dsm.ova i create the ova with this tuto, but only the begining, (in fact, i install vmware workstation, import the ovf, configure the vm, start the vm to see if it's working, and export to ovf (rename to ova)). open the file with 7zip the VM have 1 cpu, 1 Go of RAM, 2 DD 10 go, select E1000 for network adapter start the vm on virtual server manager (syno) launch synology assistant find your syno VM install the DSM with this file https://archive.synology.com/download/DSM/release/6.0.2/8451/DSM_DS3615xs_8451.pat a reboot, and it OK. be careful, do not about the DSM ! install surveillance station on this vm add the new camera on your first surveillance station, install CMS (from application center in surveillance station) configure CMS: add the new surveillance station server (ip, login, password) enjoy, the "old" surveillance station have now 4 cameras! and it's record!!! Cherry on the cake, on the new suveillance station, i map the same "surveillance" folder share that my old surveillance station. for this, i enable NFS on surveillance share (old server) and on the new DSM (vm) i add entry on /etc/fstab 192.168.x.x:/volumeX/Surveillance /volumeX/surveillance nfs defaults,user,auto,noatime,intr 0 0 now, all my camera are recorder on the same folder. Hope that this tutorial help you. Now, if someone have the solution to upgrade the VM to DSM 6.2, I'll take it !! PS: i'm french, sorry my english ! file 1/4 dsm.7z.001

Bonjour, suite à la mise à jour de DSM 6.0xx vers 6.1 j'ai du tout reinstallé mon gen8 à cause de driver reseau manquant ! j'avais lu dans le forum (dans la partie anglaise) qu'il fallait passer par ssh puis activer le VSP... j'avais beau essayer, ca marchait pas ! Aujourd'hui, j'avais 2 mis à jour en attente (DSM 6.1.1-15101 et Update 1) idem, dans le forum anglais, ils disaient qu'apres la mise à jour, plus de reseau sur le gen8, mais une installe complete marche... oui bien passer par le vsp pour copier les drivers reseau! ok, mais comment configurer le vsp? je vous propose ce petit tuto pour les novices (comme moi sur cette partie!), pour info, je viens de passer mon baremetal gen8 comme ca en DSM 6.1.1-15101 Update 1 sans pb! * tout d'abord, se connecter sur l'ilo du gen8 * allez dans le bios (F9 durant le boot) system puis "serial port options" * selectionner, "virtual serial port" Selectionner COM1 * allez ensuite dans "Bios system console & EMS", puis "bios serial console port" Selectionner COM1 * Puis "bios serial console baud rate" selectionner 115200 * Enregistrer le modif du bios (F10) * arreter le gen8 * preparer la clé usb (c'est cette etape que j'avais precedemment loupé! * suivez ce tuto (en anglais) puis creer la clé (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=22100) mais je pense que tout le monde sait faire une clé ! * l'astuce pour activer le vsp c'est dans le fichier grub.cfg que ca se passe!, editez le fichier grub.cfg et remplacer la ligne set extra_args_3615='' par set extra_args_3615='console=ttyS0,115200n8' * mettez la clé dans votre gen8 * demarrez * ouvrez putty, mettez l'ip de l'ilo * login/password de l'ilo * tapez VSP *tout ce qu'il se passe en console d'affiche sur votre ssh vu de la console ilo: attendez qq secondes, et vous aurez ceci sur le ssh * à ce moment, entrez votre login/password de votre syno pour terminer si vous n'avez plus de reseau apres la maj: * taper sudo su * copy /lib/modules/update/* /lib/modules * reboot et hop, votre gen8 est up to date et dispo sur le reseau ! merci à pigr8 pour la ligne de commande pour les drivers merci à pigr8 (encore lui) pour l'aide qu'il m'a procuré pour activer le vsp! j'espere que ca va vous aidez.

@hoppler i know this command, but, for the last update (6.1) i try this, but, i don"t have login prompt on ssh, still only "booting kernel, i forget something? i have to put a command on putty? i'll plan to update my gen8 this afternoon, i hope someone can expain me before. thanks

Hi, this week end i migrated my baremetal microserver g8 from DSM 6.0xx update 9 to the last DSM 6.1 u1 with jun 1.02 alpha bootloader. BUT, migrate option was ok, but after a reboot, no network interface ! i was connected on ilo (or VSP) and i don't have login prompt (since DSM 6!). the user EMA had the same problem, and he has connected via VSP to copy network library to the good directory. but me i can't ! How can i have the login prompt (like under dsm 5?) For information, as i can't migrate ( ) i reinstall dsm (2nd option) and network is ok, and DSM 6.1 u1 is ok on my g8. AND I DON'T LOOSE MY DATA !!! (only my apps/configuration )

hello, pour les sceptiques, je viens juste d'upgrader mon G8, (dsm installé directement sur les DD, pas de cache SSD), j'ai cree la clé usb avec le dernier firmware, booter, mise à jour directement sous DSM (dans le panneau de conf), reboot... et tout est bon, tout fonctionne correctement.

Hello, il faut flasher le bios et l'ilo avec le dernier SPP (telechargeable facilement) il date du 1er octobre 2015. maintenant (avec les temperatures fraiches qui arrivent) mon ventilo tourne à 10% ... quasiment inaudible. il faut se mettre à 30 cm pour l'entendre!

you don't have the good usb key !

you need to have ilo cable connected, and one nic connected, you can also connect the second card if you want! when the nic will be connect, you'll find your g8 with synology assistant!

hi, you can try to see the remote console via ilo ! I do this with my g8, i don't have screen connected, i just use ilo. regards

hi, in fact i try hp-health on a chrooted ubuntu, and thanks to your hpilo.ko, i have can use it on ubuntu, BUT, hpHelper is more old than yours. therefore i can see the storage adapter but not the first drive. -> bad solution. I think the problem is from hpilo.ko do you have use the last one? regards

what is your config for having fan at 10% (or now at 9%)? do you have esx? do you use b120i? SATA AHCI? i just change raid controller b120i to AHCI SATA controller and the fan drop down from 18% to 13% only !

en effet, il faut maintenant etre enregistrer pour telecharger le firmware! quand j'ai eu le serveur (fin juin) j'ai pu le mettre à jour dans pb. mais je me demande si j'ai pas eu le bios dans le SPP de hp. pour l'ilo, tu peux mettre à jour sans compte hp

je t'ai repondu dans la section anglaise! j'ai cree aussi un post dans la section anglaise, j'ai bidouillé plein de truc (debian et ubuntu an chroot... les tests etaient prometeurs, mais non, j'arrive pas à voir l'ilo!) ce que tu peux faire deja, c'est configurer les alertes de l'ilo pour superviser d'eventuel pb hard, mais attention, si HP-AMS n'est pas installé (c'est le cas sur DSM) tu ne verras pas tout! pour que l'ilo envoie des alertes, il faut que tu mettes un serveur mail sur ton reseau local, et que tu fasses pointes les alertes ilo dessus, moi j'ai installé mail server sur mon dsm, et les alertes ilo fonctionnent. pour le reste, j'ai pas eu le temps d'installer HP SIM (sur un windows) pour voir s'il voit le microserver. pour les courbes de temperatures, je pense qu'avec nagios ou autre cela doit etre possible... j'ai vu des sites qui en parlaient, mais pas testé

flash your bios and your ilo... after that, your fan will run at 15%-20% (depend of room temperature!) with dsm installed directly on gen8, but with esxi, i had 6% ! (but slow access, no spindown, no hardware report on DSM....) i prefer performance, 20% for fan is not very noisy.
