  1. Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior to update: DSM 7.2.1-69057-U4 - DSM version after update: DSM 7.2.1 69057-U5 - Loader version and model prior to update: RR 24.4.6 (DS923+) - Loader version and model after update: RR 24.4.6 (DS923+) - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: BAREMETAL - Asrock Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming-ITX/ac, i7-8700K, 1x3TB+1x2TB HDDs, 1x500GB NVME/Intel Optane - Additional comments: Used RR Manager to update loader and add-ons shortly before updating DSM version from control panel
  2. The bios does allow, but I need the OS to be able to recognize and control as well. In Bios I can only set once, and then when I boot into my NAS I cannot change anything there (I can pick a different option, but it makes no actual difference). This is due to a missing module in the linux OS underlying Xpenology/Synology - as it was designed for specific hardware. There are solutions, but they require deeper knowledge in Linux in order to implement a patch. (sensors detect and so on)
  3. Thanks. I will do that, once I get the new hard drives to maximize my NAS capacity. Currently I am with TT loader (previously ARPL) which works great, although doesn't update easily. I am also interested to know if there is any easy to implement patch for Fan control? as all the guides I've seen requires some serious Linux knowledge, and mostly are also too dated.
  4. How exactly do I run this from the DSM gui?
  5. Here's a AMD option (5xxx, 4xxx, and 3xxx Ryzen) with ECC support AND 8 SATA Ports: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B550M-VC-WIFI/Overview There are plenty of (intel or AMD) motherboards that would give you 8 SATA ports, but as for ECC - most will accept ECC RAM but will use it in non-ECC mode.. For that I think you'll need to go to industrial boards, or server boards. Here's a list of standard consumer motherboards with 8 SATA boards: https://pangoly.com/en/browse/motherboard?extra=SATA6Ports%3A8%2C10&sort=low
  6. I would say that for a business that would also favor proper support in case of issues, it's better to go with a off-the-shelf product such as Synology, QNAP, or such. The reason being that they're a one stop shop for their own hardware. And you will be covered by some kind of warranty with an option to buy an extended one, or to sign a service contract. The downside of getting something like Synology now (as opposed to QNAP, Asustor, Thecus and so on), is that Synology is closing its garden somewhat - as in it's moving to require Synology certified Hard drives which will be the only ones to work with its NAS products. Currently its in effect in Synology Business and Enterprise products (which may or may not be the level of product you need) but it may also start to arrive at Home based products. Xpenology may (or may not) always have the option to use any Hard drive, and also mix between them, but it relies on self built hardware most of the time.
  7. Hi! I've been going for the latest (DS923+) model and changed the configuration to allow for 5 drives as in my build. However, this new model does not support the onboard graphics chip in my build (based on 8700K CPU, possibly to be upgraded to 9900T CPU in the future). Which would be a better choice? DS920+ or DVA1622? Does anyone know if they will allow intel 630 GPU support for Llama-GPT or image AI docker builds? Thanks!
  8. Also, I noticed with the new RR, that you cannot easily update the core or addons from the RR/ARPL screen as before. You need to download the update/update-all files, and use SSH to update manually. Why?
  9. Thanks! can you also provide google drive links for the latest files?: updateall-23.12.10.zip rr-23.12.10.img.zip Thanks!
  10. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 7.2.1 69057-Update 1 - DSM version AFTER update: DSM 7.2.1 69057-Update 2 - Loader version and model: wjz304/arpl-i18n v23.10.4, DS923+ - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: BAREMETAL (Based on Asrock Z370 Fatal1ty + i7-8700k + 16GB) - additional Comments: Updated automatically (let the DSM download and install). I have updated ARPL to RR (the new reincarnation of ARPL) in order to keep updated. I had to actually burn the new image and recover the existing DSM in order for everything to work. But it went pretty smoothly. Now I am fully updated to version 23.11.6
  11. That's an interesting question. I wouldn't really know, but at a guess, I'd say that won't be possible as I'm not sure Synology boxes are built to act like standard PCs. You could try at your own peril.
  12. Could not edit the post, so wanted to add: I have updated ARPL to RR (the new reincarnation of ARPL) in order to keep updated. I had to actually burn the new image and recover the existing DSM in order for everything to work. But it went pretty smoothly. Now I am fully updated to version 23.11.6
  13. Question: To set the panel size, I entered "TOWER_5_Bay" in the addon storagepanel settings. But I do not see 5 bay panel inside storage manager's overview.. how can I make it show 5 bays?
  14. Can it be fixed? Or would I have to choose a bigger capacity model and re-install in order to get full usage of my drives?
  15. Well, you are not really using a Synology device, are you? And because of that, the Serial number of your machine (never mind the Hardware ID) is not registered with Synology. So... in short, you cannot use their services when you haven't really bought their devices.
