How do I shrink VM disk without breaking volume
Ysyn replied to Ysyn's question in General Questions
Couldn't find a way so just deleted volume and started again -
I over speced a VM disk for my xpenology (Thick Provision) It was a added disk and not the disk I used to install the DSM, I want to cut the size of this disk in half so I can use the space on other VM's but dont want it to break my volume in DSM if I do this., I installed Plex on this volume for bit off added complexity, I could delete it and re install Plex not a massive issue but just wondering if there is a way to do this with out having to delete it? Or am I over thinking and its as simple as just resizing the disk in ESXI

I followed this guide to the T with 2 sata controllers and synboot set as 0:0 and my drive set as 1:0 but once botted it shows my data drive as drive 2 and shows a empty drive 1 bay. Doesn't cause issue but if I add another 11 drives I could see this causing 1 drive being lost. is there a way to fix this?

When XPEnology Configuration Tool & Bootloader DSM 6.1.1 is released can I move to use that with out messing up my DSM 6.1.1 install that was installed with Jun's loader as long as I set up the grub file correctly? Only reason I'm wondering is that it has the ability to shut down the machine from a local console in case of a power failure/running on UPS. (Not that I don't like Jun's loader I think its very easy and lightweight to setup which I like just wish it had ability to go to a local terminal or trigger a shutdown command in case of power failure) -

It's hardware dependant. If you have a high-end machine with Xeon processors then DS3617xs will take advantage of the hardware. In general though I recommend DS3615xs. I have a supermicro server with 8gb ddr3 (which i am looking to upgrade to 24gb) and it has a Xeon E5620 which is 4 core with hyper threading. so should I be using DS3617xs? -

Where does the dsm install? is it possible to set up a dedicated drive for the DSM system? Also for the loader what size USB should I use I want to use smallest USB as possible, I have 1GB, 4GB and 8gb. a si dont want to use up a bigger capacity drive if I don't need to.
