Of couse Oktismes DSM6 hack/workarround is not a 100% solution. But at leat he made the best progress so far and was willing to share it with us. When I read some forum posts, I get the impression that this is worth nothing to some people.
Thanks again for your effort to make this possible, Oktisme!
if you guys realy require the latest DSM6 updates, the best workaround for time beeing is to actualy buy a real synology NAS.
It the workarround is not your taste, well then wait for an offical XPE version that supports DSM6.
Well said.

Anyone know if there will be a 32bit option?
Unlikely, Synology have gone fully 64bit now.
-
Are you using the client version? if so try using the web version http://find.synology.com/#
-
Download it from here: http://xpenology.me/downloads/
I've been using this Pat file, and it fails to load during setup of synology assistant.
I need to wipe the existing setup, I have nothing installed on my drives yet.
Clearly I'm still doing something wrong, but what ?
Ok, if you have no data on your drives yet I suggest you boot off a live CD or USB drive into Linux or similar & delete any partitions that exist on the drives, this will remove any traces of DSM & allow you to start again with a fresh install of 5592.

Hi Icest0rm
I am trying to use 5592 and it keeps upgrading to 5644, and I cannot download the 5592 Pat file.
Download it from here: http://xpenology.me/downloads/

What exactly are you trying to download?

You really need to do a bit more reading before attempting anything.
But to answer your questions, you should backup all of your configuration settings from control panel & backup your data to an external source unless you don't mind risking any data that you have on the server. Xpenology is booted from a usb stick but DSM is installed to all HDD's in the server.

Try using a DNS service like NOIP.
-
I use Putty and WinSCP to do my under the hood stuff.
Try using root instead of admin. The password is the same as your admin account.
Putty & WinSCP is what I use too, however whatever you use you must login as root as suggested by elmuziko

Ok, in order for me to try & help, can you post step by step what you've tried.
-
Enable SSH & use something like putty https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... bs.1,d.bGg

Might be worth a Mod changing the title & moving to How to / Guide

Well said Diverge, there really is no rush as DSM 6 will be in Beta for at least 6 months.
-
Makes perfect sense, DSM 6.0 does look good though!
-
i did help him a bit the problem when he reboot is that there is no more Ip adress after rebooting
we try both thing stactic ip and DHCP IP
nothing
OK, when you say there is no more IP address do you mean the NAS no longer has an IP address?
Have you tried adding the IP address & servername to your hosts file in Windows/Drivers/etc

@WannabeMKII
Have you tried creating a new user account then trying to map a share on your PC using those credentials? Also just a thought, when you ran ipconfig /flushdns did you run it as administrator?
-
Using QuickConnect on an Xpenolgy box isn't really a good idea, it just gives Synology reason to add extra protection to stop us using DSM at all. There are alternatives around if you look, or if you really must use QuickConnect buy one of the cheaper real Synology boxes.
-
You cannot install to a USB stick, the USB is only used for booting. In order to install DSM you must have at least one hard drive installed.
-
And do you need MyDS to connect to the server from an offsite source?
And for WOL?
No you don't, see the tutorial section for WOL. For remote access you will need to register with a DNS service to obtain a static IP.
-
Yes the USB or microsd is always needed to boot.
-
You should be able to add both together, but I would add one at a time, letting the array rebuild fully before adding another.
-
No one has had this issue?
Is anyone familiar with the "Configuration Backup" feature found under "Update & Restore"? If I do a backup this way, then upgrade to 5.1 and do the restore option will that work?
Yes you can use the Configuration Backup feature to restore most of your settings after the upgrade.

Glad to have helped.

no, i mean, i don't know where the synology system will be installed into, is it in one of the data hard drives/partitions? can i install it into an independent hard drive/partition? if it's allowed, could i install it into a usb thumb drive, after all, it's quite small.
When you install DSM at least one HDD must be attached to the system, otherwise you will be unable to install it. If you have more than one HDD DSM is installed to all drives, you cannot choose where to install it, it's a function of DSM.
