  2. I had thought of that for next attempt.. I'll let ya know later this evening or tomorrow how it works with the usb3 thumb drive
  3. there are two usb3 ports on the back, one has the sandisk bootloader drive and the other has the qnap nic.. I've been searching and see others with similar issues with other versions of linux kernels.. some fixed with bios settings, others with newer kernels.. i'm lost.
  4. been trying different combinations of bios usb settings and I just cant get any usb3 device to show up in usb3 mode
  5. checked bios and xhci hand-off is enabled already. i'm running 918+ image administrator@TerraServer:/$ lsusb |__usb1 1d6b:0002:0404 09 2.00 480MBit/s 0mA 1IF (Linux 4.4.59+ xhci-hcd xHCI Host Controller 0000:00:14.0) hub |__1-1 f400:f400:0127 00 2.00 480MBit/s 200mA 1IF (SanDisk Cruzer Fit 4C530006041227100443) |__1-2 1c04:0015:0101 00 2.10 480MBit/s 500mA 1IF (QNAP QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB to 5GbE Adapter 97I05619) |__1-4 046b:ff01:0100 09 2.00 480MBit/s 100mA 1IF (American Megatrends Inc. 6. update, so it seems my adapter is only running at USB2 speeds and thus the NIC limits link speed to 1Gb. lsusb 1c04:0015:0101 00 2.10 480MBit/s 500mA 1IF (QNAP QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB to 5GbE Adapter 97I05619) it is indeed plugged into a USB 3.0 port, why would the USB be falling back to USB2 speed? I need to go look in my bios a lil.. I'm wondering if I have XHCI hand-off enabled
  7. well new Cat7 cable made no difference, still only links at 1Gb with the QNAP USB NIC on the NAS. I'm at a loss what it could be. This is pretty dissapointing.
  8. ah oops, missed the C vs U version. So even though I got a 5Gb connection with the adapter plugged into my PC I've ordered some new Cat7 cables to make sure it's not falling back to 1Gb with the linux drivers on the NAS
  9. Direct from Marvell / AQtion for the AQC111C http://driverdownloads.aquantia.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/20190605_Linux_ver_2.2.6.0.178.zip I'm not even sure where the 1.3.3.0 version is from unless it's a really old one.

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Ethtool tells me 2500 and 5000 are invalid speeds even though I've tried the command in their documentation to force it. What's odd is 5Gb has been tested successfully on real ds918+ with this exact adapter
  11. Black6spdZ

    DSM 6.2 Loader

would there be anything the loader does that would prevent me from getting over 1Gbps link rate? I've confirmed a 5Gb link between this USB adapter and an Aqtion 10Gb NIC on PCs so I know the hardware and cable is good for it. I've put some more info over in software forum.
  12. I can't seem to get the link to work over 1000Mbps In the Aqantia driver readme it says: Supported ethtool options ============================ Viewing adapter settings --------------------- ethtool <ethX> Output example: Settings for enp1s0: Supported ports: [ ] Supported link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: Symmetric Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Speed: 10000Mb/s Duplex: Full Port: FIBRE PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: external Auto-negotiation: on Link detected: yes --- Note: AQrate speeds (2.5/5 Gb/s) will be displayed only with linux kernels > 4.10. I got the error 13 installing ds918/1.04b until I swapped processors
  14. isn't turbo C0 state? wonder why it wouldn't clock up? any sysinfo gui package that can be installed on the web gui?
  15. Makes sense that you could only modify physical core speeds.. I'm curious why a modern open source OS *nix can't get it's reporting correct around HT x86 CPU's.. They've only been around over a decade now. On a side note I can't test idle power at least until tomorrow, I decided to move my drives around in my case to optimize cooling and the "pin tape spinup mod" for these drives.. Well one of the drives pin came uncovered and didn't spin up.. Needless to say my volume is rebuilding now 😕 oops
  16. /usr/local/bin/scaler.sh: line 53: echo: write error: Invalid argument maybe only physical cores 0-3 can be changed? is there any way to watch all core frequencies in real-time?

    DSM 6.2 Loader

made this change but after a restart my eth2 is still disabled.. so even set at two the third nic "usb" worked before the change just made a boot task to enable the interface.. this works. Is it because the usb driver for this adapter is loaded after the native interfaces are brought up? I also just checked the ifcfg-eth2 file, ONBOOT=yes. what else might cause this interface not to be enabled?

    DSM 6.2 Loader

yep, I got it working.. had to enable the interface afterwards "ifconfig eth2 up"
  21. shoot, my x540 10G adapter doesn't support NBase-T speeds 5/2.5.. so I have another adapter on the way.
  22. got it working!, for some reason I just had to go to command prompt and run: ifconfig eth2 up, shows up in network interfaces now getting link and dhcp from my router. I will dirrect connect it to a 10g adapter on my PC later to test throughput "dont have a 10g switch yet"
  23. does this look correct? 4c/8t Xeon e3-1265L v3 Before: root@TerraServer:~# grep "MHz" /proc/cpuinfo cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 After: root@TerraServer:~# grep "MHz" /proc/cpuinfo cpu MHz : 800.000 cpu MHz : 800.000 cpu MHz : 800.000 cpu MHz : 800.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 cpu MHz : 2501.000 root@TerraServer:~# dmidecode -t processor | grep Speed Max Speed: 3800 MHz Current Speed: 2500 MHz Is the kernel not HT aware? should I disable it in the BIOS? The DS918+ Celeron J3455 cpu is only 4c/4t, so maybe HT is useless or hampering the scaling in this case?

my nas is baremetal.. like I mentioned nothing else was changed but the cpu then 1.04b bootloader with ds918+ dsm worked

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Prior attempt to run DS918+ failed on my old e3-1220 v3. Upgraded to an e3-1265L v3 and no problems. Only difference I could find is the 1220 is missing iGPU.
