  1. http://askubuntu.com/questions/406525/p ... re-too-big Anything in /proc should not be touched. As per the answer (2nd post) in the link above it's not really consuming that much space in the file system. I wouldn't delete or mess with the /proc folder.
  2. Are you using wireless for the streaming video? that could be the cause of poor performance as well. Try connecting over a wired connection if you are using wireless on the apple tv.
  3. So this is likely tricky, since its the root partition you cant grow it while using it, it would require a rescue disk like knoppix or similar and if you have all the disk capacity in use it might require deleting existing volumes to grow out the root partition and then recreate the volumes. If you don't have any important data in your volumes I would backup, delete the existing volumes using synology, boot into a rescue CD and use fdisk/parted tool to see what the partitions look like. The other issue is the disks are in a raid I assume so growing a raid partition would require the right tool for that raid. I would recommend searching the synology forums for advice on this as I have never done this before and do not have the means to test it. this might be helpful http://serverfault.com/questions/272776 ... nux-myself it says synology hybrid raid (shr) uses linux mdadm and lvm and multiple partitions to allocate all the space. If possible you could grow the lvm partition for root with the rescue cd and then add back the volumes and restore your data. mdadm partition resizing: https://raid.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Growing LVM resizing: http://www.tecmint.com/extend-and-reduce-lvms-in-linux/ the process is complicated where you could shrink your volumes in lvm and mdadm where space is available and expand the root volume with the free'd up space. If you ever wanted to re-install you would have to do this all over again. If you do have to re-install the system, I would consider not setting up any shr when provisioning, boot from rescue disk to expand the root volume to the size you like and then setup shr with the remaining space using the synology disk tools. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, might consider setting up a VM with 5 virtual disks and try creating your own shr partition layout like synology has done, and proof of concept the work before trying it on your own array.
  4. I would start checking for cleanup in / /dev/root 2.3G 2.1G 88M 97% / <- 88 MB is not enough space for upgrade you can try checking /var/log/* to see if anything is overly full that can be blown away other option is investigating growing the / partition if you had a re-install and your root folder is that full seems strange to me, are you running a debug on anything or installing huge applications?
  5. Whats your current setup? Are you booting from USB or is the BIOS pointing to disk? Are you doing a bare-metal upgrade (or is there a hypervisor)?
  6. Whats the current capacity on your system? How much disk space do you have left. If you login to the cli and use command "df -h" that should give an indication of what free space is left. Likely cleaning up any unnecessary files would be the first step, or increasing capacity.
  7. One thing you can do is get a free ddns service like https://freedns.afraid.org/ Set it up for your home ip whichever way you choose (script, router settings, etc) Point your freenom dns entries as CNAME entries to your ddns address. If your ddns changes ip your top level domain CNAME entries are still hitting the ddns address. Hope that can help you.
  8. thanks for the link 30624700, it worked for my freenom domain as long as you can prove you are hosting it. And they will update you every 3 months for renewal. Now I have a free domain and free ssl cert.
  9. Hi Polanskiman, I don't think wifi/bluetooth is working, I get please insert wifi/bluetooth adapter. Is there anything that needs to be done to detect the wifi in XPEnology?
  10. I've been looking at getting a couple cameras and setting up Surveillance Station. Wondering if anyone had some feedback/experiences with cameras and features. I wanted to get something along the lines of a Ring Doorbell (ring.com) or similar, but none of the smart doorbells out there are offering nas/local storage. I wanted to see if I could have something similar with a motion detection 2 way audio ip camera. Looking at the features of Surveillance Station and DS cam, it looks like audio is supported through the app, not sure how good it would be at notifying when someone is at the door and having enough time to respond. Has any used any of the audio features with the Android app (DS Cam) and Surveillance station? Does anyone have any camera (or door phone) recommendations that would work with XPEnology? Also considering installing OpenHAB on XPEnology (https://github.com/openhab/openhab/wiki ... y-and-QNAP) for some home automation and security experimentation (IFTTT etc). Thanks
  11. I was thinking about that, my only issue is I would like it to sync when new files are added since its a Windows laptop that doesn't say on all the time. Most of the photos are on the windows laptop so I think your recommendation would be the way to go. Thanks for the info.
  12. I was wanting to sync photos from a laptop to my nas, but Cloud Station does not support one-way sync. In this case I need to add the photos to the nas and clear the laptop. Is there any way to have a one-way sync with xpenology (using 3rd party plugins or some other macgyvering?) Currently I am using the CS sync and will remove the sync, but ideally long term would like a one-way sync going forward. Any ideas/options would be appreciated.
  13. Not sure if this is helpful or not, but when I did my build yesterday, I noticed my bios had selected the USB stick, but it had "Partition 1" and I had to switch the bios to point at the USB stick "without partition 1" in the name.
  14. Not sure if anyone is interested, but I just finished building a 1151 build bare metal install. Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI mITX Board (Dual Intel NIC, 6 SATA ports, Intel chipset Z170) Using a Intel Pentium G4500 Dual Core 3.5 GHz So far I have not encountered issues but will post any I do encounter.
  15. I'm looking for some clarity on updates. I just recently built a bare metal xpenology box and during the process installed the base 5644 pat file. Is it required to install update1 and update2, or can you install update2 and it will include all of update1 within update2. Also do you need to go to install/upgrade menu to update, or can that be done using the ui?
  16. I was also wondering how to get that password, and what is the difference between that package and the one in the downloads section (Surveillance Station ORIGINAL Package)? Thanks
  17. I've been searching through the forums without being able to find any clear indication which route to take (bare metal or hypervisor). I'm wondering if anyone had some clear reasons to use one over the other like disaster recovery, hardware support etc. Any input would be appreciated!
  18. Thanks for the quick reply. The tutorials look great, thanks for all of your hard work! One other question, I noticed there are no mention of AMD based systems here, is there issues with AMD systems and XPEnology?
  19. Hello, I am new to the forum, and I wanted to as a few questions after researching the forum for a first time build: I wanted to build a mITX board NAS, and could use some clarification on a few things: 1: Is it best practice to install XPEnology on ESXi, or is the only option, can XPEnology be installed on a system without a hypervisor? 2: I was looking through the supported hardware information, but there is no recommended hardware requirements that I can find. Is there limits to the system in terms of cpu, memory, drives, network interfaces, power etc? 3. I wanted to build a system with 6 Sata3 onboard ports and wanted to configure as follows: 4x 3TB HDD in Raid 10 1x 1TB HDD for Surveillance 1x 128GB SSD for Raid Cache - still unclear if its supported or not from what I can find on the forum, any advice would be appreciated Is raid done in software by XPEnology or do are the disks requiring a raid controller? 4. Is there any expected issues with the hardware on this board: GIGABYTE GA-H97N-WIFI http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=5253#sp 5. If there are some docs to read before ordering hardware or installation, please let me know. I appreciate any help, thanks!
