DSM seems to be checking if you have a DS Account (i.e. a valid Serial number) and also checks for a MAC address. I can't say for sure but this look like Synology is using serial and mac validity prior creating the cluster. Maybe I'm wrong so if anyone want to chime in please do so. Benoire Posted March 31, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 31, 2018 Did anyone resolve this? I'm moving from esxi hosted to baremetal but would like VMM to enable local hosting of certain VMs that are integral to the safe shutdown of my homelab... I'm just playing with this and I'm getting teh same outputs; that it fails to get the first MAC. I was using a generated MAC for the four NICs, but should I use the actual MAC of the quad 1GBe network card? Do I need a corresponding serial and if so, how do you generate it based on the MAC rather than the other way around? Thanks! Chris
Benoire Posted March 31, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 31, 2018 So I changed the mac addresses to the real mac of the NICs and VMM now works fine.

bearcat Posted December 3, 2020 Share #7 Posted December 3, 2020 @esteban0506 My first guess would be in the "grub.cfg" on the bootloader device.
esteban0506 Posted December 3, 2020 Share #8 Posted December 3, 2020 it works ! i create again my boot keys, with a new serial number and a new mac adresse

Krysus Posted April 20, 2022 Share #11 Posted April 20, 2022 Same issue. Install Virtual Machine Manager. Enabled "Open vSwitch" and "ARP Ignore". I hit next and it comes back with, "Failed to Create Cluster". I've removed it, rebooted and readded it. Still same thing. Looking for root solution. If I know how to read the logs to that - I would. Any idea if it's /var/logs/ ***something***? I can post if so.

Enabled "Open vSwitch" and "ARP Ignore". I hit next and it comes back with, "Failed to Create Cluster". I've removed it, rebooted and re-added it. Still same thing. Solution for me was this. I checked my original IMG file I made. I didn't have the right MAC address. Made a backup of my IMG file (please do!) Updated the MAC address (using OFMount), Re-Created my USB boot. Booted. Had to find it with Synology Assistant. Showed "recoverable", asked to reboot. I did and Virtual Machine Manager now created the cluster no problem!
