I want to upgrade my memory

Currently I'm running a server with Xpenology on 2*2Gb of DDR3 memory.

I didn't build it by my own but now I want to upgrade to 2*8Gb or so. 

On Google Search I found that there are only specific types of memory that works with Synology systems. 

Can I choose any type of memory as long as it fits to my motherboard on a Xpenology one? And what should I aware of?

Hi 

I have only Memory who fits the mainboard in my servers and XPE is working so in this case no you dont need memory Special for synology.

The search results you found most probably relate to a real Synology unit, you need to use the memory that is compatible with your motherboard.
