Vodka2014 Posted February 10, 2015 #1 Posted February 10, 2015 HI All What Makes / Brands can one use in an HP MicroServer Gen8 with DSM 5.0-4528 Update 2. I have a PCI-E SATA Contoller Card and want to add my 8 disks to DSM but it is not picking up. So i take it that the xpenology boot image does not have the drives. Can someone please list the Makes / Brands. Also is the Marvell SATA 6G Drives added at all. Thanks.

Diverge Posted February 11, 2015 #5 Posted February 11, 2015 Personally I'd go with an LSI controller. They are very common, and widely supported. Plus if you ever want to play with ESXI and have a cpu that does VTd, you can use direct IO. On ebay you can find a really cheap OEM version that you really can't buy from a store LSI 9201-8I. sbv3000 Posted February 13, 2015 #6 Posted February 13, 2015 I'd agree that the LSI adapter is a better option for enhanced features. I've used SIL3114 cards that work ok with xpenology and these can be had for £10 so can be great to build a 'cheap' 12 drive NAS
